Seems like if this is true it would be irons only. Can't imagine him playing Honma woods. I can't imagine it would have that much impact on his game if he just switched his irons and bag. I think most would argue that honma irons would be a step up from taylormade. Talking about the serious players irons, not the bejeweled nonsense. He could stick with Taylormade woods.
This is a pretty strange comment considering the number 1, 2, 5, 6, 8, 11 and 13 golfers in the world play exclusively TaylorMade clubs (and 3 uses their driver and fairway wood)
I've played their 737 tw v series irons and they were as good as anyone elses....have heard the mb is really good....never played their woods
Have heard a year or so ago they're trying to make a bigger presence in US...
it's not the clubs per se its gonna be 1st the money contract and 2 the support he can get to dial in specs or whatever he needs....
Doesn't seem that far fetched to me...seen crazier things in professional athletes....guess will have to wait and see.....
There's hacks playing huge TM SGI irons as well so just because they ain't gold and dont cost 20k doesn't matter.....they found a market rich fuks would pay and they rolled wit it
They have been around longer than TM and now have the guy who skyrocketed that co...who knows
I don't know if any of you have read any of Tom Wishon's books, but he convincingly makes the point that tour players clubs aren't anything like the retail models you can actually buy. It's like comparing the Camaro in your garage to the Camaro Jeff Gordon races. For example, you can't buy Tiger's clubs at retail. From what I can see, Rose plays custom ground forged blades, just like Tiger. I'm pretty sure any reasonable club company would have someone on their tour staff that could fit Rose with a similar set of blades and he could have them ground and weighted to his preference. An exception would be when the company is paying a player to play a completely different type of club than the player had been playing, like Payne Stewart or Lee Janzsen. Both of those guys seemed to struggle moving from blades to cast cavity backs for big money. Not sure what happened with Sergio this year, but he looked pretty good at the Ryder Cup. If Rose does switch, I don't anticipate that he will have any problems. I'm sure he knows what he likes and needs, and Honma is an established company with a tour staff in place.
The Tour World series from Honma are seriously good players clubs and the woods have a similar look from address to lots of classic Taylormade stuff like the r500 series.
Agreed. Their TW series are really nice. I enjoy hitting them, and one of my mini tour friends uses them.
Their woods are very underrated. Hit them during a demo day, and they went extremely long and straight; I liked them better than some of the bigger brand names at the same demo day /smile.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt=':)' />
Rose to rock this hat and a 10 iron would be cool.
Honma irons used to go to 11...
What's that MacGregor 2 iron doing in there? Hahaha
God knows. I'm not even sure what the 3i is in there for.
I sometimes practise with it.
It's clear the club owner only did chip and putt. Rest of the set looks immaculate not even bag chatter.
Actually, when I bought them early last year (or late 2016; can't remember), they looked almost brand new, which is astonishing since they were released in the late 80s. I half-wondered if they had been refinished. I've played with them 3 or 4 times (carts only), and taken them to the range (mats), so they have some chatter now. Cast, not forged, but very soft steel.

The older TW727 3w is the best fairway metal I've ever had! Stopped my search for a 3w dead in its track and I had quite a lot of them. For some reason, the stock Vizard YZ75 shaft just works for me (anti-left). Such an underrated fairway metal and shaft.

Honma clubs were winning majors in the early 70s...If my source is correct Trevino used a Honma driver when he beat Jacklin...who was also using Honma woods despite being contracted to Dunlop. Getting him to change ball could be more of an issue.
