New Wilson 50 Elite.

Minarets

Recommended Posts

Through the first 12 rounds this year I hadn't lost a ball (Wilson 50s) so I decided I'd treat myself and try something new and colourful.... enter the Volvik Vivid.

In my first 9 holes I lost 2... lost 8 in total since then. While they play similar to the 50 I find they don't perform nearly as well. The 50 is just perfect for my game!

I need to lose the rest of these balls and I'm never paying $40 for a dozen balls again!

And since Golf Town has the double dozen in pink and I don't need to worry about anyone picking up my ball either!

Love the look of the Vivids, but like you said, not @ $40/dz.

They start forest fires if they sit in the leaves they're so bright.

I'm intrigued, I see it is marketed to mid/slow swingers, will it's benefits fit a faster swinger (95-100mph)? Starting to run low on balls (self inflicted loss and just a long time since I have bought balls) so I was looking for some new models to try.

I swing 100/105 and have hit my longest drives ever with this ball :)

I have not done a side-by-side comp. with the TM or ProV yet: I would like to see a professional test of these versus "premium" balls. Are there any good empirical studies with a machine like Iron Byron?

I found one of these in the rough and I liked the look of it. I'm not sure how old it is, but it looks like a few seasons old and has a scrape on it from a dance with a cart path. Played on Friday and decided to try it on a water hazard hole, 400 yards that plays about 10 yards uphill. I carried the water hazard by 20 yards, never done that before. I was Driver- AWedge to about 10 feet. This is a hole I usually make 5+ on, made 3 that day. Ball stops very quickly on the greens, back spin even (Poa greens at this course).

I normally hit my 3 Wood 230 -250; this ball went 263-270 on the few holes I tried it. My SS is 104 - 109 right now. So yeah I am impressed. I also find it has more speed off the face of the putter too. Headed to the store to buy a 24 pack on sale.

My course aerated their greens a few days ago, so I started using the 50 Elites I'd bought specifically for fall golf. I bought the yellow, which in the past had not impressed me, as far as yellow color choices went. These seemed better than I rememebered wondering if Wilson tweaked the color a bit?

The 50s impressed me as they always do. Good distance nice feel, all the good stuff. I was playing a new set of irons that I've built as an experiment, 431 stainless instead of the forged Golden Rams I normally play. Feel of the ball with the firmer irons was still quite nice.

The 50 Elites I got were because the box of NXTTours that my father gave me for Christmas a year ago turned out to be 4 sleeves of 50 Elites. A nice feeling ball but a crappy thing for someone to do.

I much prefer the 50 to the NXT Tour other than your father getting ripped off on the price

I've broken 80 twice this month with these. Unless the greens are really firm and fast I can't justify using me Pro V's. For about $1/ball I'll use these, thank you very much.

I bought a couple dozen of these and played twice on the weekend with them. Wasn't busy so I hit some of my approached side by side with my usual ChromeSoft balls. The CS balls definitely spun more and stopped closer to the pitchmark on the 8 iron or lower but there was little difference on full shots with the shorter clubs in terms of distance from the pitch mark. I'm usually pretty close to the green these days so I rarely have the opportunity to hit that 30-50 yard pitch shot that CS balls excel at and didn't have one this weekend to compare them side by side. I did use the lack of spin to my advantage a couple of times, or at least it seemed that way. On 18 I hit the fairway and was 195 out. Normally I can only hit my 4H about 180-185 and my 5W about 200. I took out the 4H and put it about 10 feet past the flag in the right rough about 5 feet off the green. Chip and par. On another hole I really struggle on, I had about 157 to the flag with a small breeze behind me. Normally I hit my 7i 145-150 but I decided to hit it in this case a little lower and it landed on the front edge and skipped back to the centre back. Easy 2 putt par. Off the driver it went the same distance as the CS and PV1 for me, about 235-240.

Normally our greens around here are well watered and very receptive even in the heat of summer so I can see this ball working well most of the time for most players up here. On firmer greens or greens with lots of trouble around them I can see the CS and it's stopping power coming in handy. I'm not long enough to be trying to reach par 5's in 2 anymore so the holding power on a 3W or 5W or 4H isn't really an issue for me and that's where this ball would struggle the most IMO, along with the aforementioned 30-50 yard pitch. I think I'll experiment with switching up balls from time to time on individual holes depending on the circumstances.

Solid ball, played these over this past winter. Best 2 piece ball for the money.

Has anyone found their yellow ball is not as good as the white ones? The problem is, I prefer yellow.

Using the yellow right now, it's been just fine for me.

Not literally right now. ;)

Tanner, weird you'd mentioned that. I kinda thought awhile back the yellow was different than the white. I could be mental but it seemed to me, to be different.

That's what I thought, Song Dog. They are different or perhaps, it was the off yellow color that threw me and I had higher hopes.

+1, had to be the color.

Bought a dozen of these to try and it didn't take long to see how bad they are. It seemed that it maximized my misses. I played a ProVX beside it and there was no doubt that my misses were worse with the Wilson than with the ProVX. They'll make good chipping and bunker practice balls though.

Wow. Never tried a PS but a 50 elite has never felt clicky to me in the least.
