Lowest Score and fewest greens?

I'm the absolute master of the 85 with two GIRs. For the better part of 2016 and 2017, post-knee surgery, my irons sucked!!!! I literally could not hit a green to save my life, unless I was wedging in from < 120 yards. My typical hole is decent drive to either fairway or a spot where I can still get to the green...hit an iron to somewhere within 30 yards of green but not on...and chip up to save par or miss the putt for bogey. I save par more often than not, and then throw in some missed fairways etc etc for the 85.

 

In one round in particular, I shot an 82 with some guys I had never played with. During one stretch, I made 10 straight pars and hit only one green. I was getting up and down from everywhere. After one particularly crazy up and down, the guys with me just had enough and had to ask me what was the deal with my short game and how I could get up and down from everywhere. Nevermind that I doubled and tripled a couple of holes earlier in the round looking like a complete moron.

 

There is a bit of a "fundamental" formula in golf, though, where your score correlates inversely with # of GIRs (meaning the more GIRs, the lower you score), and that is the biggest factor in predicting your score besides # of putts. So believe me, I'd love to improve my GIRs, and have started to lately with improved iron play, but there is more than one way to skin a cat so to speak...

I've shot 74 with 6 fairways and 6 greens in regulation with 24 putts. Keep in mind putting from the fringe doesn't count towards putts in a round. Pitching/Chipping and putting were spot on and missed fairways weren't too bad and recoverable.

I've shot Even and hit 3 GIR. Always been a very solid wedge player, and when I can get the putter going that is an added bonus. But I used to play with this guy who played at a D1 school and he would always say if we all had a wedge game like you do we would be on Tour. If only I could hit more GIR's lol

Well today I shot 75 with 5 GIRs. I did hit 8 fairways. I had 3 doubles and 3 birdies. No chip ins, but my all time low putts of 23. Finished birdie - birdie - birdie.

Can't think of what mine would be but my abiding memory of this type of golf is playing with my best friend when we were juniors in our junior Club Championship. I hit 11 greens and shot 76. He hit 72 by hitting 3 greens the entire round. Two of those greens he rolled in putts for birdie and then the rest of the way round he just chipped and putted, chipped and putted...

Managed a 9 of -1 with 2GIR once, 10 putts. Didn't miss greens by much so had easy up and downs. Overall I think it was 69 with 7 greens for a full round

78 with 16 GIR and no birdies. Hit a couple par 5's in 2. Other extreme was 2 under for 9 with 2 GIR.

Yeah I like this game more. Same as the last poster 78 with 16 GIRs... difference being mine was on a par 70.

I grew up thinking of golf in increments of nine holes, and I shot a ton of sub-40 scores hitting barely any GIRs around late-high-school age. I had no expectation of hitting a green with anything more than a wedge in hand, but my up and down rates were way better than they've even been since then and I'd pick up the odd birdie here and there after stiffing a wedge on the approach or chipping in.

 

Definitely gives some perspective on my need to tighten up my short game again and reduce big misses, because I unquestionably hit more greens with my approach shots these days but have not quite gotten my average scoring back to the level I had back then.

I just recently shot a +1 72 where I hit only 7 greens but was 8 for 11 scrambling and threw in 3 birdies.

71 with one GIR. 3 putted it from 8’ and it was my only bogey.

77. 80% fairways, 35% greens, but i think it was something like 30 putts, ad I didn't chip particularly well, either.
