Your Golf Stereotype

Golf is golf and fishing is fishing. My bags a No Ball Retriever Zone.

Never owned one (ball retriever). Never will.

I'm with you.

Now.

However, when I started playing, I envied those who had one. I started on a budget..... Always happy to find the occasional ball.

I remember playing a course in Austria and hit a crooked one into a densely wooded area. Being on a budget I'd try my luck and see if it was at least retrievable and I found the mother lode. Carrying out my winnings I exited the area right next to a sign that read "sensitive biological area, do not enter!" .....

I am definitely what they would call a "Golf Nut".

I am 25 years old with a job that allows me to get out of by 5 oclock, I have a girlfriend who is a nurse (long hours, it gives me time to play) and not mention extremely understanding of my addiction, and I'm a member at club with a decent practice facility and 2 golf courses.

I am always playing golf LOL

I'm the Douchebag: (Aka Creative Genius) I see things others don't on the course

Generally wear something bright and obnoxious. Or just wear something super preppy like a nice RLX shirt with some colored pants with a vest and a tour visor.

I am the garbage player that everyone knows and hates.

I am better in the trees then I am in the middle of the fairway. Make some of the dumbest pars and birdies you could ever imagine. Will go over under or around any tree imaginable.

Ex.1 Hit a tee shot left into the wrong fairway this summer. Was 130 yards away had a 120 tall tree directly blocking me from the green. Hit a 9 iron to the moon to about 2 feet kicked it in for birdie.

Ex. 2 Hit a tee shot left was in a fairway bunker on a hole that runs along the one we were playing. Had a bushy tree and a tall 100 ft tree with about a 2 foot gap in the middle of them near the top of the 100 ft tree. was about 190 yards out again put it to about 3 feet kicked it in for birdie. Playing partners reaction "How did you hit that shot? and There was no way you got it that high out of the bunker"

Everyone knows one of us.

I read this entire thread last night and I love it.

I'm Mr. consistently inconsistent, too hard on himself/too high expectations, bitches about his mishits too much guy. But I'm Mr. positive about your game and shots.

I'm also TERRIBLE about seeing and finding my ball, but great and tracking and finding yours.

#1 - dress well (hardly ever see me with the same hat or shoes; tour player closet, at least compared to most of my golf buddies)

#2 - impatience towards slow play

#3 - enjoy a beer or three on the course; golf is my social life; at least that's what I like to tell people

#4 - almost always ride vs walk

#5 - hardly ever hit balls (not just before playing, but in general)

#6 - crush potential "fat guy" stereotypes possibly created 3 and 4 by being a workout freak and crazy disciplined clean eater

I'm the "Not help you search for your ball" guy.

I'll help you look the first time but after that you're on your own. I hit the fairways with my driver and if I'm having a bad day off the tee I'll adjust my club selection to keep it in play.

I'm not here to be your unpayed caddy, and I'm not getting my feet wet walking through that nasty high rough at 8:30 AM just because you're too stupid to leave the driver in the bag.

I'm the guy all the drink cart gals lust over. I'm the guy that tells every detail of my round to anyone that will listen. I'm the guy that hits it 220 with my 7 iron. I'm the guy that spends more on driver shafts than lessons but most importantly I'm the guy that knows what is wrong with everyone else's swing. I AM GolfWRX.

Just teasing, I love all you here and deep down, I'm a lovely boy.

Spent most of a qualifying round looking for someone else’s tee ball. Totally screwed up my rhythm. Now I’ll assist but for a very limited time, especially after the first couple of wayward tee shots.

Edit: This applies to tournaments only. When I’m playing with friends I’m all in helping find wayward shots.

I'm a little of a purist. Prefer to walk. Like to gamble and play by the rules. Respect etiquette, prefer no music, no yelling even for something spectacular. Try and play quick and respect the course, fix ball marks, sand divots. I prefer honors on the tee box even if it carried over from 4 holes ago. I prefer the guy who's furthest from the whole to play first. I like being the worst player in my group. I show up an hour before I tee off usually. Believe it or not, I'm not anal retentive or OCD, that's just the game to me.

Ill buy 2 dozen of previous years "Pro V1S" when they go on sale, only never to play them.

If I ever hit a Pro V1 into the bush, I cant come out of the bush until I find one or two of them.

Also, Ill be the guy out for 9 holes right after a charity tournament just to look for balls that were hit into the bushes

I'm definitely the gambler. A little action is the thing that keeps me interested throughout the round. My partner has been called "Captain Press" on more than one occasion.

Strong but erratic. When I'm playing well I can get to parts of the course that I'm not supposed to, which also means when I'm not playing well I get to parts of the course where I'm really not supposed to be (woods/water). Could probably shoot better scores taking 25% off of every driver swing, but I hit good full shots often enough that I don't want to give up the competitive advantage of being 2-3 clubs closer than my group off the tee.

Very aware of the physics of creating power/distance, spin, launch angles, etc., but not always able to apply that knowledge and produce results. I know what "should" happen and what I want to happen, but can't reliably force that result.

I consider myself a grinder. I try to never get down on even the worst shots and constantly run through my head the possibilities of how to save the most strokes I can after a mistake. My friends still get annoyed when they hit a bad shot because I always say the same thing. No matter how short or wild it is I always say, "Just get it up by the green, a nice chip and a putt and it's a par" - while playing with guys that are lucky to get 2 or 3 pars a round.
