Taylormade M3 VS. New TS2/TS3

ShankedShots

Recommended Posts

Hey guys,

I've been rocking a Taylormade M3 for this season and I have to say that this thing RIPS but sometimes it gets a little sporadic at times, I am not the perfect golfer by any means but I would like to say that I know how to play this game.

I have always been a Titliest guy but this year my boss talked me into the M3, it goes very far but I feel like it ends up in the rough more than my old Titliest 917.

Does anyone on here have any knowledge or experiences with the new Titliest TS series?

I have a tour issue M3 / 10.5* dialed down to 9* / weights in fade position / Aldila Synergy Black 60 TX

Got to play with the Titleist TS and was blown away. Not enamored with the TS2 but the TS3 is legit. Absolutely love the look at address. Super clean and the face is very flat compared to the M3 (Twistface?).

I only hit with the stock shafts but was best with the HZRDUS Smoke 6.5 60gram. It beat out the Even Flow White. I'd be very curious how it would work with my Synergy.

Distance/ball speed was slightly more consistent with M3 but dispersion wasn't even close......TS3 all day. I'm sure MOI is much higher on the TS3 than the M3. Sound would go to the TS3 as well.

Best driver Titleist has made since the 910D3 in my opinion. Already purchased and will give a head to head in the near future.

At a +4 I'm sure you do not need much help, but for me the M3/4 were and still are horrible when I demo them.... Most shots do not end up in the fairway and it feels terrible to me. The TS3 feels much better and seems to be way more forgiving, but I am still testing it. I have always had better luck with Titleist drivers but the G400 is my bar right now. I much prefer the older TM M1/2 models to the new ones, but there seems to be a lot of love for the M3/4 so I think I'm in the minority there.

What is your shaft length in the M3 compared to your old 917? Stock shaft is about .5" longer in the Taylormade which could explain why it goes further but can be sporadic.

I actually thought about this when I made the purchase of the M3.

But I pulled the shaft out of the titliest and just changed the tips and installed it into the M3.

I dont know whether its in my head or what at this point. Although titliest drivers do have a track record of being straighter than other drivers.

My boss actually plays the G400 and he swears by it... Ive hit it a couple times and it did feel pretty good.

I set up a TS2/3 fitting for this coming Tuesday so I will get to compare my numbers with the M3!

This is a great post. Thanks for sharing your experience! I was tellin somebody earlier that I will have to compare the numbers when I go through this fitting on Tuesday.

Keep me posted on your shaft comparison!

Definitely interesting then. It could possibly be some combination of lie angle/MOI/swing weight.

It is a bit funny that Taylormade has been promoting accuracy with Twistface but you hear so many people have the complete opposite results. I'm switching from the 2016 M1 and am interested to see the results.

I think it’s due to swing path. I’m inside out and had an issue with them.

Did a fitting yesterday and was pleasantly surprised with the TS3. I have not played a Titleist driver since the 909R. I already ordered the TS3 today. I have played the Epic mainly but also the M3 the last two years. I was able to achieve similar numbers but with a much tighter dispersion. My mishits were pulls or pushes but didn't have any tail to them like I have with the other two. All I have ever looked for out of Titleist is a driver that can get me similar distance as the competitors because I have always preferred the look and feel. I think this may be it.

What would you say was the biggest factor in your improvement in dispersion? Did the fitter change the lie angle, head weights, etc? Was it simply a more forgiving driver head?

Wouldn't the 917 D2 with the Sure Fit be more forgiving than the TS2?

I do not find this to be the case... the 917 D2 is good, but across the face, the TS2 seems to be really impressive, better on mis hits. Maybe due to the rear placement of the weight?

Just a more forgiving head in my opinion. Even when changing shafts to try others that were not ultimately the best for me the TS3 still had a tighter dispersion.

I honestly hate to be this guy (as I'm an expert club ho), but I demoed the TS3 today with my own shaft and it's truly just the same as the others. That is NOT a bad thing, considering the past criticisms. but, if you put a good swing on the M3, TS3, G400 LST, Rogue/Epic you are going to put a blanket over the balls at this point.

I've been using and loving the M4 this year but wanted to try a Ts3. Got it on Friday and it feels OK but certainly not blown away by it.

M4 feels and sounds much better to me.

I'll give it a few tries but I can see this ending up for sale soon.

...it would have to be a very wide blanket for me. I agree not much difference from front to back but Callaway drivers just go way left for me. I was gutted as I got great ball speed with epic & rogue, I've owned both but not for long as I got sick of shouting fore left! M4 was nice but had a few weird flights, twist face???... and G Max I hit lots of blocks with, maybe down to shaft. I've just bought the TS2 and so far so good. Ball speed up with the Callys but much better dispersion. I like how straight the face is and how easy it is to aim, it just launches high bombs love it. I'm using the stock hzrdus smoke and it feels as good as my handcrafted black. Great stock combo.

I hit both a few days ago in a fitting and went with the TS3 with the Fujikura Black Atmos shaft. The TS3 was straighter for me and the distance was the same with each.

Damn. Was that shaft an upcharge? I was looking at those shafts

Yes, but only a $355 upcharge :) i actually didn’t buy it yet, trying to get it elsewhere for cheaper

i loved my 917 and it was just as good for me against the ts2 and ts3 but it seems the new srixon 785 was longer than all of them but i love my m3 right now its just hitting bombs right now lol im a ho i know , the main thing i did not like with the new titleist offerings i noticed the face has less real estate than my 917 and definitely less that srixon and m3 i actually measured them lol

to me I have had the M3 since the start of June and I have been playing badly all year, finally starting to swing well.

I played and played with the M3 and have now ended up with both weights in the rear and loft at standard 8.5*, it just wants to fly straight. the Tensei Orange definitely works with the spin and wow I love this driver right now. to me the accuracy is back and its long. can't see me moving the M3 for a while, looked at the new Titleist heads at the range last night and was not tempted to try them.

Swing is much better too, its been a long year but as the season finishes I am feeling good about golf. Confidence is key with a driver.

I switched from M3 to the TS2. I'd guess that any distance gains/tighter dispersion were due to a better fitting, but I liked the feel of the TS2 better. TS2 felt like it really catapulted the ball out there, compared with the M3 which was a duller, super solid feel. A mental thing, but the springiness actually tricks me into swinging easier because it feels like the club will do more of the work (also contributing to better dispersion).

A good on course video by James Robinson... in my opinion its the best new YouTube golf channel

Totally off topic but, in total agreement with you on that, Shiels et all have lost it, how they are climbing in subscribers with the content they are putting out there is beyond me.
