Just did a fitting - what’s the best place to buy and a question on SST PURE

LFKB

Recommended Posts

First time getting fitted and selected the TM770 irons with the Nippon 1050GH taper stiff shafts and the new Titleist TS3 driver and 3 wood plus the Titleist 818 H2 hybrid. Fujikura Atmos and Speeder shafts for the Woods. Pricing and full detail is shown in the picture. I did my fitting at club champion in Santa Monica. Is the pricing here the best I can get or is there a better place to buy? Also, am I right in that the charge for the clubs is the same even though i’m not getting the standard shafts? Not sure I want them, but it seems like I could at least get the standard shafts for free if I wanted them?

Also, is the SST Puring process worth the $30 a club charge?

Appreciate any advice for a first timer

I am all for tne service that a fitter provides, and would gladly pay for it- however, they are raping you on the woods and hybrids with that shaft upcharge. You can save at least $1,500 if you are willing to do some shopping.

I would always pay for a fitting, but they are killing you on the woods/hybrids/shafts. I looked for 3 minutes and could put you in the driver for $200 less. Also - you sure you want a $700 3 wood?

Worldwide golf shops has been great for me with ordering custom setups from Titleist and you can def save on those shafts because no even Titleist marks them up as much as what’s listed and each grip won’t cost you $15. Iron might be more of an issue as I’m pretty sure Taylormade doesn’t offer those as a custom build option. Hope that helps

So where do I go to get the same clubs for cheaper?

eBay and here on BST. You'll just need to wait a few months/weeks for regret sales.

If you're mildly handy and have some tools, between eBay/BST and doing your own club work, you can easily save $1500 on that bag.

I’m not handy at all. Is there anywhere I can bring the exact specs and they’ll build for me without all the markups?

If by "they" you mean Club Champion... no way. You're paying full retail for all of that stuff on that paper unless you are willing to put in the effort to find all those piece parts used on eBay or elsewhere and build the clubs on your own. Heck, even just finding a used set of heads for the irons and getting the shafts new and bringing them to a local guy to build them would save you a few $$.

It's honestly not hard and it is 100% worth the effort to try and build this bag yourself. At the very least... Try to find the heads used on eBay for all this stuff and bring to a local shop and get it built. I still think though if you use a little effort and brain power, it's totally possible to build the whole bag. If you want a bit of "guidance" on how to do it and what tools you'd need, you can PM me.

Sometimes you can even get lucky and find what you need online without needing to do anything, such as finding that driver shaft lightly used with the matching adapter here on BST and the head also used on eBay, etc. Boom, no work on your end and you probably save like $200-300.

I'm curious. Did you get any spec's, like length/lie/ swing weight/ ???? Or is it just OEM, shaft, flex, grip?

If the latter you can have a great time sending to say Discount Dan, Victory Golf, or just about most golf shops, like PGASS etc. You can simply send your list , without $$, and ask for a complete set price.

I will leave the Puring, I will not comment but its seems like a way to differentiate or justify rape on cost up lifts. My opinion only.

Unless I did the math wrong, it appears they are charging you almost $2270.00 for a Titleist driver, fairway, and hybrid. LOL's. You could simply watch for a Taylormade M3 or Callaway Rogue driver, fairway, hybrid combo with those shafts on the BST here or fleabay, and save about $1600 on just those three clubs. It would probably take a few weeks, and some minimal effort on your part. You could even stick with Titleist and save the same amount of money, it just might take a bit longer, since their woods aren't as popular as TM and Callaway. (which should tell you something right there)

If money is no object then go for it ... but I would rather donate that $1600 in savings to a worthy charity, rather than handing to a retailer who isn't really doing you any favors.

...

Woods/Fairways:  Callaway with Mitsubishi shafts

Irons:  Srixon with Dynamic Gold shafts

SST Puring is a waste of money in my opinion.... maybe contact Nippon and ask them but I was told that the Nippon Modus Shaft doesn't have a Spline so SST Puring is

not even possible. Not sure about the 1050GH

Yes, I followed up with Club Champion and told them their prices were ridiculous and to let me know the best they can do. They are contacting the Sales Director so I should know in the next day or so. They did send me the full detail including length, lie, loft and swing weight so I have that all now. I will look into Discount Dan, Victory Golf and PGASS. Is there one you like best of those?

Also, a few places have told me the 770s are no longer available but CC seems to be able to get them.

Hahahaha! You beat me to it. Holy macaroni! Those are some specs. 5 iron is 1.5 inches longer than my “traditional” 5 iron at 38” and 6 swingweight points heavier.

You must be one big Hombre!!

One thing to note.....those shafts are going to play REALLY soft at that length and that swingweight.

I really hope your guy knew what he was doing, but those are some pretty severe specs.

Freaking 240 yard 140 foot Apex 5 iron. He will certainly own the longest 5 iron on WRX.

We will all need to bow down.

As I said in the previous post, they will play soft because of the length and swingweight, but you also have an extremely athletic history. I have to imagine you are capable of more significant club head speed. Are you injured or elderly?

If those speed numbers arent going to increase with lessons or practice, perhaps the shafts will work.

I’m 51 and 5’7” and a past baseball player and still play softstepped extra stiff shafts at standard length.

I used to hit the ball longer and swing harder a few years ago. I took lessons the last few months and I have been working on tempo and I don’t feel that I swing very hard. I could generate more clubhead speed if I needed it but I don’t feel I do. I’m 32 and not injured.

You know so little about the SST Puring process and this post confirms it. It's better to remain silent and thought a fool than to speak and remove all doubt.

OP, do some research on SST Puring, there are plenty of people on here who say it's garbage, and plenty of people who understand the science behind it.

But like everyone else said, you're getting ripped off on that build.
