The 2018 Ryder Cup at Le Golf National (MERGED)

Serious question....

How many could fit in the French Open?

Not like there are unlimited open sponsor exemptions there?

And..

I busted my a** for q school finals in the desert when I was playing, and I always struggled vs back east....

And I live in California

The course set up was definitely well done, and the Euros played it better.....it’s all pretty simple!

from the French Open entry list section...

Category 0a, these guys get in first. Players ranked in the top 50 in OWGR on April 9, 2018 and in the Top 50 of the OWGR on June 4, 2018.

the Ryder Cup possibles that entered from this category

Justin Thomas

Jon Rahm

Tommy Fleetwood

Sergio Garcia

Alex Noren (WINNER)

Tyrrell Hatton

Rafa Cabrera Bello

Ian Poulter

Matthew Fitzpatrick

Ross Fisher

Alexander Levy

Thomas Pieters

Captain Thomas Bjorn was in the field and Jim Furyk was there scouting.

Jim Furyk was asked about this in February

https://www.golfchannel.com/video/furyk-i-would-see-guys-play-french-open/

Tiger Woods, Rickie Fowler and Francesco Molinari (WINNER) played in Washington DC that week.

Well, there ya go! Thanks

^Additionally it's not like they just found out in May where the Ryder Cup was being held.

The locks on the team could have tried to find a spot in their schedule the past 2/3 seasons to get over there if they wanted. Not easy I know, but still.

Don't know if this has been mentioned, I was there for all three days and was curious which were the 'key' match play holes - number 11, the short par 3, was the most significant with the hole being won 19 times.

Number 7 (very tough par 4 probably the hole with the most and thickest rough) and number 13 (normally playing quite short dogleg par 4 over water) each were won 18 times.

Number 3 (downwind par 5 but the pin always looked difficult to get at) was won the least, just 6 times.

It's just my impression from what I saw but on the crosswind holes I thought the American team were really crooked and tbh not all that long compared to most of the Europeans. Surprised that a short par 3 was so significant in the result.

Main conclusion however is that DJ is an incredible ball striker.

I got an email form Odyssey Golf that I can win a replica of Phil's Ryder Cup putter.

That's a laugh.

It will elevate your game for sure. Come on, be a good sport, take the plunge, lol....

Ryder cup captaincy is becoming a poisoned chalice, especially for the USA team. Tom Watson didn't deserve the cr*p he received and I hope Jim doesn't get the same.

But he should get criticised. Furyk made some fundamental leadership errors:

1, There should have been a edict to play the course in advance. It is mind-boggling that for a tournament of this stature and a course of this type that only 6 of the US team could be bothered to play it in advance.

2, He should never of picked Phil for this course on his form. Make Phil a VC, explain the situation and pick someone better suited and in form.

3, Have a fundamental strategy for the pairings with options. There appeared to be too many knee-jerk reactions which unsettled players (Bryson/ Phil, Tiger playing 36 on Sat, Reed vs Speith) etc...

Furyk was a facilitator rather than a leader and must take some responsibility for the loss.

Once again, the blueprint Azinger laid down (pods, team spirits, horses for courses, course familiarity etc.. ) has been ignored.

Tom Watson is one of my heroes, a wonderful guy and a world class golfer. But a terrible coach.

You sure about that,? the first time he was captain things went pretty damn well. My guess then, and now is that he was dealing all the prima donna BS that you have to deal with when you have all these egos in one place.

I really, really want Phil to be captain, I want to see if he actually knows what he is talking about or if he is full of it. Being captain on foreign soil is the true test, most of the captains do pretty well at home.

Actually Watson would have been the perfect Capt for this team. He could have told DJ and Brooks how he handled such situations back in the day.

A friend saw a top shoulder surgeon today who had watched the press conference and was pretty confident Woods had taken some pretty serious meds. Who knows what for but it's hard to square the way he was going at the ball in the rough with how he looked at the press conference.

Did Ricky or Sergio comment on what was said at the end of their match? Looked like Sergio was pretty emotional and Ricky spoke to him for quite a while. Probably a real class exchange.

I was curious about that also. Ricky had a rough week and did not play well Sunday(don't think either did).

Ricky looked like he was hurting a bit in the moment, Sergio knows pain on the golf course, am sure it was all class both ways.

I thought it was a cool moment.

Agreed. Spieth asked him a question at the press conference and Tiger failed to answer. Spieth replied, "nice talk, Tiger" and moved on. They panned to Tiger later on and he looked gone to me.

Both teams seem to have achieved the ultimate in sportsmanship. Intense competition, with respect.

Now, if that could somehow catch on with the fans, that would also be sweet.

FORE RIGHT!!!!

I'm not a huge Tiger fan either and...yeah, he looked spaced out. Tiger usually talks in really short, clipped sentences. At thaaaat preeeesssss confereeeeence heeee waaaasss talking reeeeeaaaallly sloooooooowly. I'm not saying he has fallen off the wagon. It could be simply some sort of muscle relaxer for his back but I don't think it can be denied that his speech was slow and slightly slurred.

To make a diagnosis from watching a few minutes of TV is the height of irresponsibility. Have you ever seen someone who is really tired, or hasn't had much sleep...they look pretty much like a drug induced individual, or someone with a hangover.

"Top shoulder surgeon"

"Pretty confident"

"Serious meds"

Translation:

"The bartender"

"Poured mudslides"

"We talked $hit about Tiger"
