Saturday's forecast calls for rain and drizzle, but otherwise the week looks good with temps in the low 70's, and light to moderate winds.

My pick this week is Thailand. Match play calls for birdies, and Ariya and Moriya are ranked 1st and 6th in birdies.

I think the pressure will be on the home team.

Thank you Argonne for starting this thread. I wanted to but I don't know how. Anyways would you look at that TV coverage. I was not excited for the event but I am now! Love me some primetime golf and this is an onslaught of coverage, essentially a nightly marathon of LPGA action. 25 hours. Going to sleep real good later this week.

With out a horse in the race, I'll probably sit back and enjoy some good golf and cheer for underdog in the event. I'll also probably place some recreational wagers on the matchups to increase my viewing enjoyment lol. If you know the LPGA and the players, some of the weakest lines are on the LPGA compared to any other sport.

I think the sleeper will be Australia.

I thought the players decided among themselves. Can't imagine Lexi and Cristie won't play together.

This is a lock. They're pretty dominant together.

The tournament site doesn't mention whether the team self-select the pairings and the playing order. I assume the pairings are determined by the team. 'Curious if the higher ranked team gets to select which of their players will play which pair from the opposing team, or whether the playing order is blindly determined.

Hmmmm. Interesting that the Jutanugarn sisters are not playing together. 'Probably a good decision given that each is capable of making a ton of birdies.

Some thoughts on the week ahead:

My favorites are England and Thailand, have been since the teams were finalized. England almost won it 2 years ago, and this year's team looks even stronger with Georgia and Bronte as new additions. Thailand doesn't seem to have a weak link either, so they should do quite well.

I see 2 question marks with the US team: 1) Lexi Thompson, who has been struggling lately. Can she find her form again alongside Cristie in team play? And 2) Michelle Wie who hasn't been playing competitive golf in over 2 months. I'm not yet sold on the team making it to Sunday in a tough group.

Predictions for the 1st round:

England-Australia 2:0

Korea-Chinese Taipei 2:0

Japan-Thailand 1:1

USA-Sweden 1:1

Will try to watch as much as possible which will be hard since the matches will tee off in the middle of the night here in Europe :lazy2:

Does anyone know why Thidapa Suwannapura is not on the Thai team? This has been a breakout year for her, and she is easily the fourth best Thai golfer.

The player selections occurred on 7/2/18. Thidapa was ranked 163rd at that point, 8 spots behind Sherman at #155. Thidapa had a great July and August, and climbed to #79.

So Wie is healthy?

I certainly hope so. She's going to catch a lot of grief if she's not able to perform. With only 4 players per team, they all need to be playing at 100%.

That is such a tough break for Thidapa and quite frankly, the Thai team. This will probably get me tarred and feathered but I'm thinking Sherman shoulda did an Inbee here and bowed out. There is a gigantic difference between a player who has gotten over the line at the highest level, and one who has yet to make any kind of name for herself on the LPGA. I don't begrudge Sherman at all, I'm just kidding around. But I still say the Thai team would be considerably stronger with Thidapa.
