Early morning golf

I played a round today on the Saadiyat Beach Golf Club in Abu Dhabi. It's so hot here at the moment that I was forced to start at 6AM.

The temperature was a cool 33 degrees celcius.

Perfect greens are one of the best things about playing early.

I'm definitely not a morning person, but when I'm on vacation and playing two rounds a day, especially on my winter trips, I have little choice but to go off early. I'm generally teeing off earlier than when I get out of bed for work. I do love the quick rounds, which are typically 2:15 to 2:30, but the dew and the grounds crews do put a damper on things.

10 AM is just right for me.

I like to have breakfast first, and I'm rarely in bed before 1.

 

That being said, if I have to be there at seven, I 'll do it but not with a smile!

Love Dew Sweeping. I used to caddy a lot and the best guys to caddy for are always the first groups off. You can generally make some really good friends too playing with the early groups. I love to walk with a caddy too if that is an option just because I understand how much caddies appreciate not waiting around and being in those first few groups. I have been a bit short on cash this year so I have not been able to take advantage of it as much. But there is nothing better than walking down a Hogan walking early in the morning.

I snuck in a 6:45 nine today. It was phenomenal. Earliest I've ever been out. Course was in great shape and uncrowded. Ranger sent me off the back, and I never hit a group in front.

75 minutes later I wrapped up, hit the grocery, and picked up the football snacks. Home before 830, wife too sleepy to care.

As fall and winter approach it seems my 6:30 A.M. rounds will have to be pushed back to 7:30 A.M., it's already getting to dark and foggy for me to see much up here prior to 7.

my plan is to do my last two early morning rounds here in Scotland. Been going Wednesdays but forecast is poor tomorrow morning so might try Thursday instead.

 

Sunrise is 7.13 today so running out of enough time before work.

Only thing that beats early Morning, is any golf during work! If not at work and on course that is a great day!

I'm such a golf nut that playing in the afternoon is like telling a kid that they can't open their Christmas presents till Christmas afternoon. Since I'm going to be thinking about my upcoming round and how THIS will be the one when my swing finally comes together and I can ditch my office job and head out on tour until I actually play and get brought back to reality, I'm better off playing early!

 

On a serious note, I love the pace of play of early morning golf, and the fact that I can still have a decent portion of the day to fulfil my duties as a husband and a father.

I used to love the first tee time of the day. Leave the house and get to the course around 0600, hit range balls in the dark to loosen up, on the tee at sunrise. That would require me getting up at around 0400 to shower, drink coffee and stretch before leaving the house.

 

These days, I just don’t want to get out of bed that early anymore. My wife usually plays with me, and she doesn’t want to get up that early either (more important things to be doing first thing in the morning). We’ve been teeing off anywhere between 9:00am and 3:00pm, depending on when we feel like getting out of the house.

 

I do enjoy the early morning sunrise, quick rounds, and not so crowded course, but around here while the temperature is cooler, the humidity is higher and the mosquitos are waking up and hungry. When we play, we don’t have anything planned after our round usually, so if it is a long round it’s no bother.

Two weeks ago. My group usually is first group off on Saturday; they start us 10 minutes or so before official sunrise so we see the sun rise on #1 green.
