Adding on for the Ping G400 hybrid!

- Had always used a 3 iron...but was time to go

- Wanted something 210 - 230 off the tee for short/tight par 4s and long par 3s

- Did not want to get a 5 wood but had bad luck with driving irons

- Had always being against hybrids but am coming around thanks to this one

- Love the matte-ish black top at address

As long as you get the right shaft (I got the Tour no charge, non-standard offering), this baby can go long and high once you find your groove. Currently I am much more successful using it without a tee (swing down) vs. on a tee (swing up like a driver).

Also note: I’m 6’4†and, though all wedges and irons are 1/2 inch long, was fitted to standard length with this hybrid.

Looking for a high launching, forgiving, game improving style hybrid from the previous few years. Really like the Cobra but I haven't tried any of the other offerings between OEMs... Suggestions?

Looking to bridge the gap between 5 iron and 5 wood. I'm about a 12 cap and low ball hitter. Something that wants to fly high is ok with me.

Thanks!

You answered your own question.

Anything with baffler rails is amazing.

F7 or f8 is the ticket

Callaway XR. Don't understand all the hook talk that goes along with hybrids.

Lucky!! I have hooked more hybrids ob than driver this year. I wish I got along with mine because when I hit it well it's an absolute weapon out of the rough.

OP- for a real value option, take a look at the last couple of Adams releases. TM is still releasing those clubs, just with a new paint job.

Which hybrid do you game?

Maybe not that popular of an answer but I'm a 13 handicap and my go to club is a 915 HD which replaced my 4 iron. I've never found a better hybrid in my life.

Coming from a guy that stil carries a 2 iron:

Forgiving is a word I would use to describe a hybrid.

Straight is not a word I would use to describe a hybrid; I would use the word "left" instead.

You should try the Callaway XR OS.

I had the F7 Cobra but tended to hook it and didn't enjoy the turf interaction as much as I hoped I might.

Switched to the OS in19* 18 months ago and it's now my go to from 190-200 yds. (I'm old and swing slow.) It feels especially reliable in the wind and generally flies straight. Cheap as chips these days, I'm sure.

A second vote for the XR's. Have played a number of different hybrids over the past 6/7 years and these are excellent clubs.

If you're hooking your hybrids, it's probably because you're not setting up correctly. Hybrids are meant to be hit like irons. When you hit them like fairway woods that's when the big hooks happen. Play them further back in your stance and hit down on them and they will go straight. And my vote is for the G25 hybrids. High, long, and straight all day long.

You are not totally wrong, but there are also people who can not hit hybrids with any consistency. They will hook the bejesus out of them too often. They are just a lot easier to turn over.

100% this. It’s so fashionable to play the “hook machine hybrid” card. The only known case where it’s ALWAYS the arrow and not the Native American .

Go online. Find the Adams Idea A7. I literally hit different ones for a few months a few years back and couldn’t deny how easy and pure these were. I have the 2,3,&4. I usually don’t carry all 3 at once but allow the conditions to determine the set up. These will be used and not expensive but worth every penny!

Ping G400 10.5* 43” Prolaunch Red tipped 1” R9 3w (oldie but just can’t let it go) Adams A7 2,3,4 (again just can’t let go) Maltby TE Forged 4-G Project X 6.5 Cleveland 588 DSG 52* 56* 60* TaylorMade Spider I’ll mix and match to what course I’m playing or conditions but it works.

Swing is always to blame for a shot, but clubs certainly can accentuate the issue. Hybrids are often closed / anti left in an attempt to alleviate the issues that the average golfer would have with a longer iron.. but then you have the “pro” models and they’re basically just shorter fairway woods (maybe even harder to hit, depending on loft.)

When you get into 18* hybrids, etc. they’re so long that the swing is gonna get flatter for someone who’s not that tall, and mixing a flatter swing with an anti slice club, we have: hooks.

There was some excellent research by Ping that indicated many golfers line up hybrids off the toe and hit them on the toe side of the middle, even when they believe they are lined up on the center. Come into impact with a face closIng and a toe-side hit and there’s your hook. The shape of the G400 is designed to counter this. All I do at address is shade my alignment slightly toward the heel with any hybrid and there are no hooks.

That said, the two most playable I have tried are the Ping and also the Cobra F8. They refined the rails with the F8 and it is excellent off any lie. I like the Ping Tour shaft more than the Cobra offerings.
