What is your green fees budget?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering. A lot of guys talk about the spending on their driver, their putter...

But what about the amount of money you spend per year on your green fees.

Do you have a full memebership? Pay for a numbre of games? Do you prefer to move around? In what category the course you play fit in? Campionship course or the standard public course with less than ideal green.

So how much you pay to play? With your currency.

For my part, this year i scored a 25 games card for 300$/cdn. Best deal i have ever had. Cant wait to read yours.

Probably too much although I would never tally it up or care enough to worry about it.

I have a membership to a course, I play 20-30 rounds at away courses a year, I play 4-5 tournaments among other things.

I also don't buy boats or snowmobiles or drive a new fancy car. I have a good job that pays well which helps.

Its my main hobby and the most important thing in my life outside of a few people and my dogs.

Before kids, used to average maybe $80 * 50 rounds = $4,000/yr

Counting travel for 2 golf trips a year, golf gear, clothing, etc, in total maybe $10-12K per year in golf related spend.

I dropped my private membership when I moved to a different state recently, and haven't joined a new place yet (not sure if I will). Even just paying green fees as I go now on public courses, I expect to spend probably between $6,000 and $7,000 over the next 12 months. This covers well over 100 rounds per year. The cost would be even more, but a high percentage of my April through September rounds are cheap weekday twilight rounds.

I have a membership at a private club. They have intermediate memberships for 45 and under. Mine came to $1780 after taxes. Pretty reasonable if you ask me. Before becoming a member I'd play 40-50 rounds a year at an average cost of roughly $60 per round so roughly $3000.

I have a full membership (£1k) at my club. I'm also a points member at another local club that probably gives me ~10% discount. I also play at various other clubs throughout the year.

I've never really counted the total cost. Most courses around here charge around £30 for a round at the weekend. A couple charge around £40 and we don't go to those.

But given that my mate and I play almost every weekend I'd guess that I'm paying about £2,500 in total.

I’m a member at two courses. One I pay £800 per year as I’m 150 miles from it, so it gives me a 50% discount. The other is just around the corner from me, and that’s £2,800 per year.

So far this year I’ve played 6 holes at the course that’s a distance away, so it’s just about the most expensive round of golf ever. Hopefully i’ll get down there for a couple of games next week, as the wife will be away.

As for green fees, it really depends on the course, how much I want to play it, and whether I think it offers value for money. I paid around £125 to play St George’s Hill, which was awesome. £180 to play both courses at Sunningdale, and around £90 to play Walton Heath.

Wow. That must be the posh bit of Oxfordshire - what course is that? I've played most of the courses around North Oxfordshire and none of them would charge that. Chipping Norton is only £780. Even Wychwood is only £900.

In VA, I use the Va State Golf assoc discount card. It costs $65 annually and gets me on most every course in the state for under $30, Monday to Thursday. I'm retired, so it's perfect. In Florida, we're members. SWMBO and I get about 100 rounds in for that 6 months period, so its about $28 per round.

Growing up in Florida most of my life, other than Augusta, I never knew private clubs were actually a thing. The best courses in Florida are open to the public (sans Seminole). So you can go and play where you want for less than $200 at most world class facilities and some are even only $50. My local muni’s are $15 & $22 respectively and top class in terms of quality control on the course with perfect greens year round.

Oh and no budget, that involves too much thought. However, yes, I am quite budget conscious when it comes to equipment.

Don't have one. I am fortunate to be able to play a number of great courses through work. I play about 25 rounds a year probably pay for 2/3 of them, very fortunate with my business associations. I was going to join a club close to my house for $9K plus minimums and just couldn't justify the expense. So when laying down $350 for Torrey Pines and The Ocean Course this year, I really didn't bat an eye. That said I wouldn't do it everyday! If I could get the cost per round down to $150-$175 I would consider the country club. Golf is not cheap in the East.

Ah. I've heard good things about that course. I think we looked at playing it this summer but the fees were a bit high and it's almost at the limit of our range for a Sunday knock.

100 rounds a year, most at my home course. $200/year get me on course for about $18 a round.

200/100 rounds= $2 a round

$18+$2 x 100 rounds= $2000/year.

Add $200 for the 4 or so rounds I'll play at other courses for $50 a round.

$2200/year.

Most prob spend $1000-4000

Annual membership fee is $4500 plus $250 for unlimited balls at range. Cart fee $25 for 18 holes. On average I probably play once a week and practice 3 days a week (up until 7 weeks ago when we had our first child). Non members can only play with members and we're charged around $90 after taxes for 18 and a cart for the guest. It's definitely one of the nicest courses in my area and greens are pristine. I'm youngish (37) and have been trying to recruit some of my younger friends but the fees are turning/keeping away the younger crowd unfortunately.

I am now semi-retired and hope to play more than the 20 - 25 rounds/year and hopefully will need a budget. Up until now I just try to keep it reasonable and spend less than $2000/year including range balls. If I could get to 50+ rounds/year I would look to keep it to under $3500. This being NJ I would consider buying a senior membership at a semi-private club but true private clubs in this region are not justifiable for me at this point in my life. I can play some great golf for $40 - $80 per round.

I play about 36 rounds a year, probably average $30 a round so about $1000 a year for green fees.

I'm going to start practicing more so that will be about $15 a week in range balls. That just seems wrong to pay 2/3as much in range balls a month as I do to play but I want to play better. It's more fun.

Equipment is a non issue. 30 year old irons that I regrip myself. $5 putter, R7 driver I bought a few years ago $28 delivered and the most expensive club is a Titleist 910F 3W $60. Thinking about replacing the top end of irons with Titleist 17, 19 and 21 degree 910H clubs that will run me about $150 delivered but can't bring myself to pull the trigger. That's 5 rounds of golf!

I'm probably cheaper than most despite my higher end gear, but I scour the discount cards/deals for the best possible prices. I would play 5 medium tier courses for the same cost of a higher one every time. Quantity trumps quality in my book everytime, provided the greens are smooth and the fairways are relatively short. I played at Sentryworld a month ago and although I'd rate it a 9/10, maybe higher, I would have much preferred to use that total greens fee on 4-5 18 hole rounds at my standard courses in the area(discount card). A couple of the courses offer complimentary greens fees with purchase of a cart, while others are 50% off the total of both. I'll pay 14-30$ any day to ride 18! I'm more about the shotmaking/scoring and less about the venue.

I look at it this way, I take care of my equipment very well and it holds its value as a result. The most expensive part, my putter collection, retains almost full value if I were ever going to sell it. Semi-investment on equipment and penny pinching to play, that's my style. I've also become quite fond of buying near mint used goods for less than 1/2 of retail, the BST is your friend.

I currently have only 2 bucket list courses to hit before I hang her up(only 32y old), Whistling Straits and Pebble. I much prefer the "grinder" type courses that are nice but surprising affordable. The touristy, resort tracks give me the wrong vibe.

£50 ($70) is more than enough for me ideally on a day out.

I remember paying £140 ($185) at Wentworth nearly 25 years ago perhaps. That was eye-watering !

And i'm planning on visiting St Andrews to do the Old Course next year too; amongst others in the area. I remember paying around £35 the first time i played it. I gather it's now £180.

A lot of the courses in my area offer loyalty cards which you buy for $75-$100 then get greatly discounted green fees. Most being about 50% off. I will buy three or four cards every year and go from there. The most with those cards I pay is $40 per round. We also have a few casino courses which can be pricey but If gamble enough. An get a round or two comped.

Unfortunately due to life circumstances I'm down to 1-2 rounds a month, so greens fees aren't really an issue. When the opportunity presents itself, I would basically pay an unlimited amount of money to cram in 9 or if i'm luck 18. As it turns out, due to location and convenience, I usually end up hitting up a muni for 35-40$ with cart.

I pay anywhere from 24 to 35 dollars US for cart and golf here in Corn Country. I had a membership at a golf club near me but at 1600 dollars, never got my money out of it. I play about 30 rounds a year.

It costs me about $1200-1500 a year in greens fees.

My home course has a twilight walking rate for $20 that I take advantage of whenever I can. But when I play nearby courses the greens fees range from $60-90. I play about once per week from April-October. But I'll also squeeze in 9-holes in the middle of the week from June-August for $25.
