Tour b X too firm now what?

Have tried the tour b X and found then too clicky around the greens.

So now I'm thinking tour b xs or srixon z star.

Anyone compared the two? Which is softer?

EDIT: I'm sorry, I was mistaken about the compressions. The Z-star has a compression of 88 and the BXS has a compression of 75. To put that into perspective, the B X you tried has a compression of 85, so the Z-Star would feel more like the B X.

 

That being said, I never get a clicky feel with the srixon balls (even the firmer XV) and I can relate to the clicky feel you had with the B X. However, the feel is more than just the compression. The covers and layers beneath the covers may be constructed differently for whatever reason. I would still try them both.

 

Also, don't sleep on the Q-Star tour if you like something a little softer. It clocks in around 72 compression and it's cheaper

 

They have very similar compression (mid 70's). You can't go wrong with either. They both have plenty of green side spin and they will be noticeably softer than the B X. I think the biggest difference maker would be the visual of the dimple patterns. As I'm sure you noticed, the bridgestone balls have a unique pattern that some people love or hate but I assume you are ok with it since you tried the B X

From what I can find, the XS has a lower compression of 75 compared to 88 for the Z star. However testing between companies will vary. If the X is too firm maybe try the RX. Should perform fairly similar to the X and won't be as "spinny" as the XS may be. RX compression is around 66 IIRC.

 

I've played the Z Star a few times and it was pretty clicky, more than I preferred. I usually game the RX.

Both feel a lot softer around the greens for me than the B X.

 

I personally prefer the B XS over the Z Star.

Very similar. IMO tour b xs feels more solid off the irons.

So I have been going back and forth between the TP5X, the B XS and the B X. Right now I'm using the BX. Personally I like a heavy feeling ball that is soft but has a firm denseness to it when compressed. For me the TP5X feels great, but flights a bit high for my liking. The B XS is a little short off the longer clubs, flies higher than I'd like off the shorter end of the set and while I don't think it spins too much, I think the height combined with the spin is too much for my taste. The XS also just feels and plays like a lighter ball to me, if that makes any sense.

 

The BX rides the edge of what I like to feel, it's borderline hard but it feels like a heavier ball than the XS, I know they weigh the same, but it's likely a product of different densities at different locations in the ball. Spin on chips-wedge shots is ok, but the ball is pretty much laser straight for me and very predictable as long as I'm making a full pass at the ball. It likes to be hit hard and I have had a little trouble on partial wedge shots with dialing in the distance.

 

For me every ball has trade offs. If the BX was softened up ever so slightly and spin increased a little bit I think it would be perfect, for me anyway. I think this would be achieved by moving the density slightly closer to the core, easiest way to do this I think is with another layer like the TP5.

 

So for me the perfect ball would either by a TP5x that flies slightly lower with the same spin (dimples). Or a BX that's a tiny bit softer.

 

In cooler weather the BX might be too hard.

 

Truthfully the new Pro-V1 kind of checks all these boxes, but for some reason when I use it I just feel a little bit off with it.
