Driver vs Driver 2

Given the fact that the first show produced a total flop, why on earth would it get another go? I didn't make it through an entire episode of the first one unless I needed a nap. Ugh....

The golf channel has to fill space during what is essentially the off-season for golf.

This.

I would rather this than watching Hank Haney teach celebrities how to play golf.

Tim Clarke doesn’t like anything. One contestant had a stabilizing “ring” inside to accomplish the same thing that jailbreak does. Clarke basically well if no one can see it then it won’t help it sell. Seriously?

I took it to mean that with jailbreak you can see the two dots on the sole and it said Jailbreak ok it. Likely to make a customer ask the question. What is this ?

With the totally internal stabilizer you have nothing on the sole.

Considering what the first 'Driver vs Driver' program produced, does anyone care about this 2nd iteration?

Do we really need another 'wild card driver' like the Triton?,,. :swoon:

They could've put something on the sole, or the crown - or both - to represent it. The Wilson guy is way too obsessed with visible technology.

Jailbreak is internal technology, and the two 'dots' on the bottom only hint of what's in there. We all know what it is because of a catchy name and good marketing, which they use to fully explain it using cutaways and graphics.

Ditto for TwistFace. Nobody can actually see the difference. They needed to use an exaggerated Pringle and marketing to explain it. I think they sold a couple of those too.

The idea that the tech has to be overtly on the outside and be completely visible means that they'll probably end up with another gimmicky driver that no one buys, which is sad.

This show could have been so much better than it is. The concept is good, but the execution is abysmal.

They should just send everyone home and let Rick Shiels design their next driver. I’d rather see what he could come up with over the next 8 weeks or whatever it is. Give him the $250,000 and his fee as a judge with full reign of Wilson’s R&D department. I bet he could come up with better than the whole group of haacks they have now.

Not familiar with the first season, but I am familiar with the Storm guys personally and the quality that they put out I'm not even sure why they would waste their time on this show when they could probably do this on their own. The only thing that makes sense is there is some kind of corporate connection between Storm and Wilson and now I'm wondering why I just didn't email this directly to Hank and find out...

They seemed like the smartest guys there. They never should have been booted off. Why did they not make it and the cocky Long Beach guy with tech that isn’t new at all still on the show?

Have no intention of watching season 2.

Is Melanie Collins still the host?

Shark Tank is cool. This is a ripoff of that.

Maybe instead of drivers, they should open it up to anything golf related, including apparel & accessories.

Melanie doesn’t have a big enough role

Plus in a lot of cases original programming is more profitable if it gains decent rating.

I was impressed with Rick as the only likeable panelist on the show, but then the guy is on with the concept of having three weighted strips/plates on the driver head and Rick says something like "Why didn't you just have three weight ports instead?" And then neither Rick nor the inventor mentioned MOI, and then I felt all sad inside...

Most golfers hit slices and the moveable weight settings in a driver have shown to not alter ballflight much. I’ve helped a number of golfers strengthen their grips and get their grip out of their palms because most people bring a baseball grip to golf. It always adds 10-20 yards.

If I was Tim Clark, I’d do a few things:

- Incorporate some of the non-weight track tech on the show into the winning driver.

- Instead of putting an aiming line of the driver that is straight back, point it inside the target line to promote a better path. It doesn’t have to be as large of an alignment aid as the Triton, but point it inside. Ot at least make the alignment aid moveable for a fade or draw between rounds.

- Make a grip that literally shows a golfer where to place their hands for a stronger grip and a weaker grip. There’s like one grip that is made that shows you where to put your hands and it’s not easy to understand.

Make the driver as long as it can be, but most people will get more length and consistency getting the most of out their own swing. Much easier to gain 20 yards that way. Make a driver that does this.

Well I watched the first season and thought probably not going to care for another. But unfortunately Hollywood worked its magic and I’m excited to see what happens in this season. Any thoughts?

I just pre ordered the No Sex Driver.

If they make a driver that is as beautiful as Melanie I'll buy it!

Agreed the black widow has most promise and interesting tech a swiveling weight port. You could expand the back part to make weight more heel and toe. However that swiveling weight port would need to be very secure Think 2 screws would be needed.

Wasn’t it called the widow maker? Black widow would have been better, like the shoe spikes.

He'd end up making something that looks classic, performs well, has recycled tech (that actually works), a great shaft, and great sound. The problem is that Wilson can't compete by selling a run of the mill driver. At 1-2% market share, you have to bring something unique to the table (or charge significantly less than your competitors).

He's a golf pro, not a designer, not really sure what he's doing on the panel, as his input for any of these should be 'you design it, i'll dial it in for the customer'.

Designing the next driver is a bit pointless these days, they are all pretty much at their limits, each of the companies have a great driver at the forefront, the only thing that stops them being good for people is being poorly specified for the player.

Rick is exactly what this show needs. He’ll bring an online audience to TV. He understands the modern driver more than anyone on the show.

Tough crowd!

I think it’s a cool experiment for Wilson and for Golf Channel.

What if any of the developers get it right..... and put out a really good driver? ‘Living the dream’ territory right there!

Certainly beats MY day job.

Why did they bring everyone back that made the 1st cut, just to eliminate someone before and real R&D was done.

Seemed like a waste of an episode.

I like the show, its about golf club manufacturing and design. How could anyone on this forum complain about it.

My wife however....walks in while its on and says “i cant believe you watch this stuff”

......she goes through episodes of the real housewives like they are tic tacs.
