Any News on a TaylorMade P770 Replacement? (Pics added pg 8)

Recommended Posts

Eh.... I can get over looks if they preform. Wasn’t a fan of 790s when I first saw them, but now you’d have to pry them out of my cold dead hand. If these preform in a similar fashion (cut my spin down to playable levels) and have a little better turf interaction then they might be the holy grail, granted an ugly holy grail....

Ok as promised

Here is the pic of the PW, 8 and 3 cavity. As previously stated the 760 sits between the 750 and 770 models and has the top line and sole width to fit in between as well. Lofts will be “traditional” aka 47’ PW.

Here ya go PatsNation 760 and Rory testing https://imgur.com/a/W3KoJ2p

it might just be the angle but in the second picture it looks like they have made a little "round" version of Srixons V-sole, can this be the case?

They look worse than i was expecting but if they perform they might go in the bag, but since the release wont be untill february they might compete with the new apex line.

There is so many choices now days :o

there is no way the same team designed the look of the p790 and then turned around and designed the p760. they designed one of the best looking irons for its class in p790 and then turned around and made the p760 look like an infomercial square strike copycat.

Thanks for the pics. Based on what I see here, I'm beginning to think they'll be fine once I see them in person. As I said in the other thread, they check a lot of boxes for me, so I want to like them.

I did not have a 750 on hand to compare - sorry :(

But again the blade length fits right between the 770 and 750. For everyone who doesn’t like the looks of the cavity I will add my 2 cents if you care, wait till you hit them. A traditionally lofted version of 790’s is the best way to describe them. I’ve been using 770’s. Tried 790’s but didn’t think they felt as good and didn’t want to re-learn yardage’s.

The 760 feels comparable to the 770 and have been ordered.

I don’t doubt they’re solid irons, but they aren’t significantly better than a lot of other competitor products that aren’t really ugly. Looks matter. TM hasn’t even released these yet and I can tell you they will struggle. R&D didn’t think this release through.

I'm not sure that you are correct, there has been a lot of bad looking clubs that has sold, but time will tell.

When just the info about the technology in these clubs were out I know that there was quite a lot of people that wanted to try them and I believe that if they feel amazing the looks will come second.

I certainly dont think they are the worst irons I have ever seen. I just think based off how well the 790s did, a smaller version could have been pretty legendary and they missed that boat.

I think R&D did their job well here. Many players were building sets with some combination of 750/770/790, TaylorMade even had a chart available that showed the optimal way to blend sets (with corresponding loft changes). So the P760 is taking all of their best tech and putting it into one set that's intended for a scratch to low single digit player. They will fit a large number of players very well.

Looks absolutely matter, but that usually isn't an R&D area.

I am not marketing guru nor a club designer. But here is what Taylormade should have done.

The back of the 760s should have looked like an update smaller version of the P790s. Sole and blade length of the 750s, top line and offset of the 730s, updated speed foam in the 3-7 iron in a dark grey satin finish, more traditional lofts (PW 48*) and Titleist/Mizuno standard lengths.

Then in March release them in all black.

But what do I know I’m just a regular golfer.

I have a love/hate relationship with golf.... I'm Married....

The look is a fail. They went from beautiful irons in the 7 series to this. The stripes are horrible. Maybe they won't look as bad in hand.

I think the current P line of 770, 750 and 730’s are the best Taylormade has done in a long time. Simple and clean. Not sure why they can’t just stick to clean lines rather than always trying to work in as much gimmicks as possible. It’s a good thing they pay to play...those 760’s are F-U-G-L-Y!!! Taylormade better send out another market research survey to justify their high prices...

These look better in these pics. I actually think they look nice than the 770.
