Fairway wood shaft recommendation

Recommended Posts

Looking to up my launch off the deck with my 2016 M2 15* three wood. Currently have the stock stiff Reax 65(red lettering?). I hit it well off the tee and okay off the deck. Would like a little more height. I know I could go with the 16.5* HL but I have an 18* five wood so the gap is too close.

Swing speed with driver is 95-100 with quick transition. Was thinking Graphite Design AD-DI 7. Any others?

Ball flight is a question of LOFT AT IMPACT, and the ball has no clue where it comes from

If the head you play now is 15* and you mean 16.5* is to high, how much loft do you want the shaft to add on your 15*?

Thats what happens here, a shaft that is able to respond to your swing for higher launch, will add loft at impact on your 15* vs now, but how much?

On Woods we can use a factor of loft to launch of about 0.8 so 1 added loft gives 0.8 higher launch

Put those numbers into Flightscope optimizer and see what difference it makes.

That 16.5 head (if actual loft is 1.5 apart from your 3W), would be able to raise launch with 1.5 x 0.8 = 1.2 as difference to launch angle, but you think thats to much?

What im trying to tell is, you are splitting hairs, and is willing to spend quite a lot of money to gain what?

If we look at our own varieties as players for angle of attack and launch angle, we would normally have a variable larger than you want to move this

For all i know, you can improve performance by adjusting play length and balance, and if you need more launch, some of it can come from a shortened butt section and added head weight who will soften the shaft slightly and make it bend a tad more, so if weight and feel is good, consider a small modification on play length and balance who might improve your average performance with the club you got.

If we use 90 mph as club speed on your 3W and say your average smash is good and 1.46 we get a ball speed of 131-132 mph

Now use a spin value between 3200 and 4200 and try launch angle from 11 to 15 just to see how the numbers moves*

(we can add 250 rpms for each degree of loft/launch as a rule of thumb)

Launch 11 - spin 3200 = 207.8 carry -. total 230.9

Launch 12 - spin 3450 = 208.3 carry -. total 227.9

Launch 13 - spin 3700 = 208.1 carry - total 225.4

Launch 14 - spin 3950 = 207.4 carry - total 222.6

Launch 15 - spin 4200 = 206.3 carry - total 219.8

And to make sure we add this scenarios

Launch 11 - spin 4200 = 202.8 carry - 218.9 total

Launch 15 . spin 3200 = 213.5 carry - 232.2 total

The problem here is that we cant take much advantage of vertical gear effects on a wood compared to a driver, so "high launch low spin" is not really possible like it is on drivers, or as the bottom line example

Look on play length, total wgt and balance, that might improve impact and by that ball speed who is king of distance, launch angle is a question of fairway roll out and wind, so dont trace a expensive shaft to gain nothing of importance.
