Ping G410

From what I saw...

Was so so on the G410 iron. Looked a little like a Wilson design in the back. Better execution, but still clearly a Ping G400 heritage.

Crossover was so much better looking than this years. More compact heel to toe and not as shovelie (is that a word?).

G410 driver Looked good. Adaptor was similar to the current but with more adjustment as noted above. Turbulators still there. Crown is different without the dragon-fly on the top but a "ridge-turbulator" on each side going to the back end. Weight is moveable. It is either in the back (neutral) or on either side (fade, draw). It doesn't slide. That part also looked clean but leaves two open screw spots on the ones not used. Assume that different weights are available.

G410 fairway and hybrid adaptors looked HUGE on the head. Not a fan and essentially the same looking head as before but the adaptor detracts from the looks. Replaceable weights on the rear sole.

Adaptors were not Nike in design.

Was the driver a similar shape/footprint to the G400 or did they go back to the G30/G size/shape from years past?

Looked the same. You definitely would know it's next in the G400 line. Wish I could have hit it since I have no idea if it will sound better or worse. Has a higher MOI from what was said.

That doesn't sound great. One of my favorite things about PING was the adapters always looked very slim. The extra half-degree of adjustability isn't worth the bulk.

Yep the minimalist - slim adapter is a huge reason I love the Ping drivers. Can't stand looking at a huge bulky adapter.

I was told the sound is "more powerful" which doesn't really give me anything really. I was told it wasn't G30 and previous sounding, but take the G400 and add a little "more powerful"??? Also, there is a LST version that won't be releasing the same time as the regular G410 and SFT. I'm extremely excited about the sleeves. This will do wonders for the lineup, being able to flatten the lie and have the extra .5* of loft is great!

That's really critical information for a lot of people, if true. It's also surprising, given that it was a "Max" that was late this go-around.

Was talking to my man Afroman and he was saying wait for the Ping G420 coming out in a couple years. Had some great things to say about

At first the ball flight willl seem low, but then it’ll get high

The ball flight will be penetrating, but it’ll be high

You’ll be driving it past all your playing partners, and you’ll know why

Cause it went high, cause it went high, cause it went high

Can someone confirm that these irons are smaller in profile and more like the Rogue pro? Its been mentioned but can someone whos seen them let me know

They are not. They still look like a G400 in profile. Back is different though.

Encouraging to hear the fairways are being re-designed - they were lacking in the lineup

Max at 460g delivers the club much differently to the ball than the G400 at 445g

Anyone with a view as to why they went to 455g and the effect that might have?

IMO, the addition of the hosel adjustment is the only difference between a 400 and a 410. Not a fan of the fat hosel.

The 455cc (I assume you meant cc and not grams) allows them to drive the MOI numbers up and keep the 460 Max relevant (at least for a few more months).

The back is different. Looks almost i25-ish to me (the badging covering the CoreEye). And the offset is reduced across the G410 irons compared to G400. By about half of I remember my numbers. Looks a LOT better with the lessened offset.

I actually thought a blending of Wilson and Srixon on the back. I only got to see one iron so I can’t comment on the offset being different. It didn’t stand out on the one I saw.

yes, cc's - apologies

g400's moi was just fine to be honest, i would hope enhanced ball speed would be driving the change somehow

I am just concerned all the advantages of the 445cc head are now gone with nothing in return

so what do we get in return?

since i can already get the Max if i wanted a high moi toaster-oven?

really interested in knowing

thanks

Didn't say it was better. Every OEM needs to bring out new models and there has to something different (improvement) to make it greater than the last iteration. What do you get in return? Likely just a lighter wallet. No quantum leaps in technology here. The problem with the Max (for me) is the sound is like the G and sounds like a you hit it with an aluminum can. Hopefully the G410 sounds like the G400 with a little better MOI and maybe goes a little straighter (hard to do and harder to see in real life).

Any truth to these having less offset than the G400 irons and if so is the offset comparable to what the i210s look like?

I would say that IF the offset is less, it isn't anywhere close to the i210's.

I agree. Can’t see moving from the G400 to the G410. There is no payoff. Not knocking the new head — if it is like the 400 it will be fantastic — but I think this new one would be more for non-Ping players or G, G30 players looking to try a newer Ping head. I had the G and it was a strong driver of which I did not like the sound at all, but the 400 solved that completely. I think the 445g G400 head is just right and I can’t see going for a fatter adjustable hosel and 10 more cc’s that won’t help me. The shape of the 400 looks good and it has definitely improved my tee game. I am not going to mess with it. May need to grab another head as a backup. Hits great, sounds great.

There is truth to it. As I said above, it's a specific part of the presentation for the G410 lineup. There are no in hand clubs as of yet to be able to tell you what it looks like though. No one has seen them in person, at least at the account holder level. Just on the slide presentations. But if I recall correctly, the specs show it being half that of the current G400s.

455cc is essentially 460. So they’re turning the 400 into the Max with some better(?) aerodynamics and adjustability.

Lower spin?

And I suppose the Max will go to 5800 MOI with a little lower spin and added adjustability.

When they reach 5900 MOI on their drivers they’ll drop that value down for better spin numbers, maybe size it down to 445cc for better aerodynamic properties, and repeat the cycle all over again.

Hooray.

The combination of spin, MOI, and speed are some of the best out there, if not the best. What else do you expect them to do? They are doing exactly what they should. Keep optimising those data points.

Gosh, the opposite criticism is “they just keep changing colours and releasing every 6 months”. I think I’d be happier with the complaint you laid here. Kind of a badge of honour.
