Make switch to PXG?

I won't be switching the bag to PXG (simply can't afford it nor do I want to carry that kind of coin around everywhere), but got a good deal on a 0311x UDI that came in this week. Absolutely love it and best driving iron i've ever hit. Bravo PXG on that design. It's also the first UDI that i've been able to consistently dial up or down without the end result getting sketchier. (210-245).

Sorry if already asked but can anyone give me an idea in the offset of the standard gen1 0311 irons? Closer to a ping g or less???i want to place an order but I have not seen them at address in person.... thanks

They have considerably less than a Ping G (as does the XF). .135 vs .200 for the 7 iron.

For reference this is also less than the Apex CF16.

My X 2 driving iron should be here on Friday. I’m glad you like it, I’m looking forward to it.

well i see where you can now buy Gen1's for $195 club online. I pulled the trigger. lets see if the 0311's can replace my 5 year old RSi2's.........

Was $175 so they raised prices.

I just noticed the Heros program price went up from 125 per club to 135 per club..................

Hmmm inventory getting lower

Going to be changing the shafts in my irons and wedges. The Modus3 105 shafts feel great, but they go wayyyyyyy toooooooo highhhhhh. The most obvious decision would be to go back to my trusty C-Taper 130x's, but I have enjoyed not waking up with aching arms and shoulders after playing golf lately, so may look elsewhere for a solution.

First time out with my xf’s today no range session just played 18 with a group of 20 guys. I was extremely happy! Hit a couple bad shots but for first time hitting them I had way more positives. I usually struggle with nicer fairways but today definitely easier to hit then my g25s. I was taking nice divots where with my old pings I never did and struggled from tighter lies. Mite sound dumb but where I live most places have extremely hard fairways

Has anyone else noticed how reviews on PXG change depending on price paid? When people are paying full price for the PXG, that they say they are greatest thing since sliced bread. Compare that to when people get them at a discounted rate that is more in line with other irons. Then, you begin to hear how they may not be the greatest thing since sliced bread and how they may not be better than other options out there.

Don't think so. I've heard from a few friends who paid full price for PXG and didn't like the result. Everyone is different. The tough part is getting a set that doesn't work and then finding a way to sell them. Tough when you've paid that much coin to get anything close to your return on investment. Getting them on the "cheap" is nice, but I don't think it will dictate a review.

I got my set "cheap" for $175/iron and I love them. They feel amazing and are very forgiving, not much else I can ask for.

Less important, though notable, is the aesthetics. I just really like the way they look. I bought them kind of on a whim, but I'm really glad I did.

My only complaint is the grips which I'm finally changing out this weekend. Can't wait.

I had that problem so I went with the Modus3 120 and problem solved. I still have a high ball flight, but I like the trajectory better.

I’m glad I’m not the only one. This afternoon I was on the GC Quad, and I was hitting 7 irons with 8300 spin (srixon 2 piece range balls), and a peak height of 48 yards. Way too high and way too spiny. I usually hit the ball with very little sidespin, but for some reason these shafts have increased it tenfold, particularly in the short irons.

I find the Nippon site rather confusing. If I am reading it correctly, the 120s and 125s are the highest launching, the 105s in the middle, and the 130s launch low bullets. I’m going to try loads of different shafts next Thursday, and hopefully I will end up back in something around the 125-130 mark. I’m intrigued by the Oban steel shafts, but I fear I’d have the same problems with these that I have with the 105s. I think it will basically come down to CTaper, $Taper, Modus3 130 and PX LZ.

You NOT reading the modus3 shafts correctly...130 is higher launching than the 120.

Finally chatted with someone at PXG about the specs being so far off. They were apologetic and offered to have me send them back for them to readjust. Seemed genuinely surprised they were off since they’re left to one builder for their entire completion, not pushed down an assembly line.

Won’t put the $$ back in my pocket for getting them bent correctly after the fact but they did send a little swag for the trouble. Appreciate they at least tried to make it right.

I have an itch for new clubs. As I do every couple years lol. Currently I game a combo set of Titleist 716 CB and MB. I love my irons. I hit them well and I’m used to them. I just want something new and shiny to look at more than need.

That said I’ve always been intrigued with PXG since they came out. I have an opportunity to get the Gen1 at 50% discount through the hero program and am seriously considering 0311T.

I know there’s a million reviews out there. But any real world experience of anyone going from CB or MB to 0311T? Forget price if you could and just keep it based on performance, feel, etc please.

I switched to the Gen 1 PXG 0311 through the hero’s program and they are hands down the best iron I’ve ever hit —I’ve played blades and MB and nothing compares. I would recommend the switch !

I went from Apex MB Raw to 0311T, and I echo the sentiments about the feel. It’s like nothing I have ever hit before (in a good way). They fly a bit longer and launch a bit higher, but I think that’s partly down to the fact that I am having issues with the shafts, which will be rectified next week. They’re maybe a little bit chunkier than I am used to, but I can’t deny that they frame the ball superbly at address, and the turf interaction is second to none, despite having a slightly wider sole. The relief on the trailing edge of the sole really helps.

So, do the Gen1’s have gapping issues like other hollow back gel filled irons? Are they distance irons or have more traditional lofts?

What about gapping issues?

Does the PW play true to loft or would there be a gap to a standard 50* gap wedge?

Any gap issues between the 7 and 8 iron?

I’d likely be looking at the players iron.

Just a heads up for those considering the online deal on the Gen 1 irons.

The price has come back down to $175 an iron. I was charged $195, but they refunded me the $20.

They aren't listed on the site, but if you phone them you can also get the driving irons for the same price as the regular irons.

Bit of a bargain compared to the price of alternative driving irons.
