Mizuno 919 Tour

Gave my new set a good workout today. Love the look of these things in the bag. Best looking iron I have owned. Behind the ball they are nice looking however the P is not my favorite shape. I ended up 6-P 919 Tour, 5 iron Forged, 4 iron Hot Metal. I wanted the hot metal 4 iron to be more of a driving iron and man is it long. The Tours are much easier to work than the clubs I have been playing, Honma 373P, and Ping ie before those, i25's. etc.

The KBS Tour is giving me a high launch. Distance is almost the same as my hot lofted Honma's, not much different, only a half club. Feel and sound is great. Couldn't be happier.

How are you liking the forged 5 iron? Would you keep it like that or do both hot metal?

Buddy of mine who is a pretty decent player just switched from the 900 Hot Metal to the 919 forged. He likes them a lot.

This post adds nothing of value to this thread but thought I’d leave it in here anyway.

So far I like the gaps the way I have them. I play a short tight course and rarely have anything over a 7 iron on the course unless it is into a par 5, so my 4 and 5 irons are more used from the tee box. I would have gone both 4 and 5 in the forged but I wanted the 20 loft on the 4 iron and just decided on the HM instead of bending the Forged.

The HM is way thicker and chunkier looking at address, almost hybrid like, but that to me gives me more confidence off the tee when I am just trying to rip it.

I played in a friendly money match today with some buddies. I didn't hit the quite as well as I did yesterday. My swing/rhythm was a little off today so I wasn't hitting the irons real well. Luckily, I only lost a few bucks.

I'm torn. I've been with Mizuno forever (as evident by my screen name). After a year of no golf I recently started playing again and decided to update my MP64s. I tried the MP18SC and MMC, 900/919T and F, and the Srixon Z785. I preferred the MP18SC's the 919T, and the Z785s. My local dealer will give me a pretty good deal on the Srixon's, so that's where I'm likely headed. I honestly don't know if I've ever had a Non-Mizuno iron over the past 10 years. Seems like I played the original AP2s for a while in 2008 but that's it. I may end up with SCs if I can get a good deal on some just for sentimental reasons haha.

Good choices to have. I actually prefer the 919 Tour the most in terms of looks, but I like the Srixon 785 over the rest of the JPX lineup and more than the MP18 SC. The Tours are beautiful. I would expect the 785 to be a little more forgiving. I think the 919 Forged has too wide a sole for me and I like the 900 Forged more in that model. Srixon is every bit as good as Mizuno, it is all about what you like. The 585/785 is going to be popular but probably won’t sell as well as the Mizzys due to their stronger PGA Tour presence.

I am eager to see the 919 Hot Metal Pros!

They never left! I've shot my best rounds ever with them and just couldn't bring myself to trade them. I bought the 919 because I've always been a mizuno junky.

I'm contemplating going forged 4-5 and tour 6-PW. I went from AP2's to i210 and not really sure I'm gaining anything. May as well add another set to the mix!

That's my setup and I dont like forged. Too bulky compared to tour and it doesn't give me confidence.

Are they fine performance wise...the 4/5 forged? Or not enough of a gain?

Love the 919T’s. Everytime I test my buddy’s set on the course I fall deeply in love with them. They have it all; looks, feel, performance and supreme consistency. Then I remember my MP18 MMC’s play virtually identically. The MMC’s just aren’t as pretty as the 919T. Then my thoughts turn to the 919F and getting a bit more forgiveness out of them over the MMC’s. Such a wonderful dilemma to have!

I have 4-6 in the forged (bought 6 in tour as well). Agree that the forge is a bit bulkier than I would like, but man I do enjoy that extra bit of forgiveness when I have a long par 3 or on shorter par 5's. I'm not 100% what Im going to do with the 6 iron spot (I had the forged irons bent 2* weak). Distance is nearly the same and I think Ill keep 6 as forged for now and just rotate when Im feeling more on with the swing.

Nice to see a quick win on Tour with these yesterday.

I have 45* T7 in case but actually like the PW so far.

What was he using for a driver? He was spot on with hi irons....thought he was going to choke it up, but he finished.

G400.

Edited to correct - wrote LST for some reason but I think it's actually the normal G400.

G400 LST.

Sounds like he may be switching to the new st 190. The article said that one of the pros testing had the ping in the bag. The other pro had a TM Driver...could be Luke Donald. We’ll see.

It would be quite something if Mizuno actually made a driver that they wanted to use.

Have some rounds in with mine now and am getting comfortable with them. I am more than happy with them. Easy to work, easy to knock down, good launch when I want to hit it high. I have hit some off the toe that I lost yards on but I should have with those swings. Love how they feel. Shot my best round in a while with them today.

I'm currently hitting the Cobra Fly Z Pro MB irons with DG Pro S300 shafts. I like how they flight the ball for me, and my distances are pretty good. I don't see that as an option for the 919 Tours and don't know much about the newer shafts. Is there an available comparable shaft that's offered in the Tours? I tried hitting the Project X shaft in the store the other day. I hit it pretty good, but ball flight seemed high for me.
