DYNAMIC GOLD - FLIGHTED - ASCENDING WGT - 3/8" sets

Someone asked if we could tweak a set DYNAMIC GOLD into a FLIGHTED set, and yes, that can be done, and we can also by weight sorting get a good ASCENDING WGT slope of about 1 gram from shaft to shaft when we combine it with a 3/8" set up where we use the #8 iron (or PW) as starting point for the length slope (keep the standard #8 iron)

To make it, we need to take out the #4 and #8 iron, and add a #1 and #2 iron shaft, then tip trim this taper tip shaft like in this chart.

The CPM numbers in the bottom is only estimates to see how it looks in terms of flex the way we manipulate SW values and combine SS2 with SS1, tip trim and strait in.

The set as a whole should be judged as SS1 on flex vs strait in, and thats typical what we know from PX Flighted, but here we have a altered flex slope that changed from 10.4 to about 11.4 per inch, and with a change of tip length progression between clubs from 4/8 to 11/16 as average. That gives us a standard tip length and flex in the #9 as LOW launch, and up to the #3 iron with 1 inch longer tip than STD and HIGH launch. (or as high as can be and still keep flex within reason)

The concept should work, but i never made a set like this, so consider it a "paper project" where the numbers is done to see if its possible, and it seems like it is.

ive limited tip trim to 6/16 or 3/8" so it should be strait forward to use tapers with hosels for tapers without insert problems.

Both S300 and X100 can be used as starting point

PAY ATTENTION TO STARTING WGT ON EACH SHAFT, THATS NEEDED TO GET A GOOD AVERAGE ON THE WGT SLOPE

This looks really interesting. Would this same concept work for DGSL, or other lighter weight options? I'd love a flighted set in the 110 to 115 gram range.

All constant wgt shafts can be used, but we need to do the numbers to see how that might look

As you can see, ive taken advantage of the weight tolerance in DG do make the numbers look good in the end, but the concept itself (SS2, SS1, tip trim and strait in) can be used on any shaft so yes it can be done, but we have to do the numbers in each case, so if we make a 3/8" set starting from the #4 iron like one reader did the other day, this numbers change and want look identical as they do here.

For Dynamic Gold S flex, we can take advantage of sub flexes (S200-S300-S400) who will make a ASCENDING slope in the area of 10-11 grams from longest to shortest club where we use the same shafts as X100, so in S-flex we can use S200 -1,2,3 shafts 'SS2 -, S300 5,6,7 shafts SS1 and S300 8,9, and a S400 PW on top.

This set up dont look as good on the paper, we move in steps or groups if we cant sort them right, not a "equal" progression from shaft to shaft like the example ive posted (but close) and the long irons become a tad softer (even steeper CPM slope) Look at how the slope changes when we go into the S200 shafts, we suddenly jump with 8 CPM into S200 so that might be to much, maybe a small tip adjustment to get them more inline on flex should be done

For a series like XP we can mix XP 95 with XP 105 and XP 115, but this set takes more job to calculate since each wgt is a bit off the other on flex, but there should be a way around them to, i just did not do the math for them yet, but had them on my mind for a long time.

What we try to achieve is both a steeper flex slope for lower launch in the short, and higher in the long irons, but also a tip length progression that adds launch into the long, and take it down into the short, we just need to figure out what shafts to mix, what shafts to go SS2 vs SS1 and how tip trim progression should look like.

Its ONLY Constant weight shafts we can get to be Ascending wgt with a slope that its visible, and one of the limitations we meet is how much we can tip trim a taper tip shaft before we need to ream up the hosel, a job thats not really DIY, so i tried to avoid that on the project thats on top in the tread, but in some cases we might be forced to do that to get flex and tip length progression like we want it

PS! if a reader looks on the X100 set up on top here, and say ahhh i wish it was SS2 as average flex, SS1 is a tad to strong for me....no problem, just move the whole chart 1 shaft up and you have a average flex or a #6 iron that plays to X100 SS2, so we have more options than what the chart say we have, but SS2 want be 3-PW but 4-GW since we cant find a "0 iron shaft", and we could also stretch it to 5-SW and go SS3 as average flex in the set. (i write 5-SW just to show where the shafts ends up, but if we dont want to go that strong on wedges (PW,GW,SW) we dont have to, so we can stop flex progression at any club we want, and that goes for the X100 set up too. Some want flex progression including PW, other want PW to be softer than the #9, and we have the freedom to do as we like here.
