Senior LPGA Championship

Recommended Posts

I'm not the formatter Argonne is, but here's cut and pasted from the LPGA web site; surely I'm not the only one here who's interested:

  • Format: 54 holes, no cut

  • Purse: $600,000

  • Par: 72

  • Yardage: 6,106

  • History: The French Lick Resort has hosted a Legends Tour event since 2013. In 2017, the inaugural Senior LPGA Championship presented by Old National Bank was played, marking the first-ever Major Championship for senior women

The Donald Ross course would be more appropriate for the senior crowd.

I watched some of this today; I really like watching senior ladies, because I am a senior guy, and they have more swing speed than me (maybe).

I think that the yardages for the holes that they are playing are way overstated, in order to make them look longer than they are. And, I think that is a disservice to older golfers. It is cold there, and the ground is soft. So, what is wrong with the TV people saying that the par 3's are playing 130, and the par 5's are playing well less than 500 yards? If that is the case, the TV production would be doing senior golfers a great service by stating the yardages are longer than they are- and letting senior golfers know that playing much shorter courses in cold weather and inclement conditions is just fine - in fact, recommended!

Shucks, it is cold and soft here, and I have been playing senior tees, and in some cases the senior tees are on the lady tee blocks. I don't have to mention that I have been enjoying the fact that by moving up, I have been able to reach the long par 4's in two shots, sometimes comfortably. In cold weather, I don't think there is anything wrong with that.

I will be watching again tomorrow. I just wish I could see the Ross course.

Odd, I watched yesterday and did not notice the yardage thing. I saw a 134 par 3 and a 460 par 5. Inkster just now putted on a 106 par 3.

Watched this today, didn't get a chance to watch Monday, but this was a joy to watch. I'm 52 so these ladies are of my younger era of golf :). So many familiar names, pretty much a who's who of ladies american golf from the 80's.

I cringed when they referred to Juli as the 84 and 89 ANA Inspiration Champion :angry22:. Egads, just call it what it was, the Dinah Shore!

So many names we didn't get to see on coverage - if this was anywhere near me I would love to go... Donna Andrews, Cindy Rarick, Kris Tschetter, Jill McGill, Susie Redmon, Laurie Rinker, Michell McGann... the list goes on and on. Would be cool to see Kelly Robbins playing, but IIRC in an interview a couple years ago her back prevents here from practicing or even playing very often - only time she really plays is a couple times a year visiting her parents.

My home town girl got some TV time - Vicki Goetze (Ackerman) of Athens/UGA fame. She was a few years behind me but was a local phenom. Was surprised she did not do better on tour, that is get a win, but she always was a very short hitter and it really handicapped her on tour.

Brandi Burton still looks mad all the time, just her persona I guess, but she's right behind Laura at the top of the leaderboard. Pat Hurst has lost some weight it appears, which is good for her health I'm sure.

Lori Astedes of Big Break is there, and Myra Blackwelder (Mallory from Big Break's mom).

Weather looked like it was affecting them some, everybody looked coooold :).

Continuing my one-woman cheering section for Helen Alfredsson: they talked about her three wins at Evian. What I didn't hear mentioned was that between her second and third, Alfie captained the European Solheim Cup squad. Then she won her third Evian to play her was back onto the team. I don't think any other captain has done that.

Let's all take to heart Judy Rankin's observations about the men getting to play 40 year careers, without a similar path (yet) on the women's side.

Yep really enjoyed watching this tournament, although my DVR did something funky and cut out after Davies group teed off on 18. Still I hope we get to see more of these covered on TV. Playing them off-days is brilliant, don't have to compete with the nightly back to back re-runs of the men on the weekend.

Your DVR is fine, they ran a few minutes over the scheduled time that it was recording.
