I had the same struggle for years. Couldnt find a fairway that was consistent both off the deck and the tee. I tried a 16* hybrid at 42", the Ping I15, Cleveland Hi-bore, TM rbz stage 2, SLDR, and Burner Superfast, along with several others. 2 yrs ago I picked up a TEE E8 BETA 16.5* at 42.5*. It goes as far as any 14*-15* 3w Ive owned and is automatic off the deck. It will stay in my bag until it falls apart. You can find them cheap and the stock Aldila Rogue is a fantastic shaft.

Another vote for the Rogue. 4 wood might be what you are looking for. Used I would consider the XR.

'16 M2 HL. Absolute rocket launchers, easy off tee or deck.

The tour-issue deep face version is especially long and has legendary status on here as one of the best 3W heads of all time. You can still find them quite easily on ebay.

Both of those suggestions are great clubs. I can speak from personal experience.

Rogue is long...... I hit my 4w 284 (off tee) yesterday. m2 HL is easy to get up in the air, but I had too much side dispersion with it.

I game 4w because I feel it's my perfect inbetween club. 3W is too long and not the easiest club to get off the deck consistently. 5w balloons too high and isn't long enough off the tee. I can tee a 3 iron just as far as a 5w and keep flight down to stay out of trouble.

Since you hit your hybrid well..... ever thought about getting a 3HL or 4w and cutting down the shaft and manipulating the swing weight to be closer to your hybrid and irons? Don't overlook your shaft selection too. My fairways are cut 1/2" short and swing weight closer to my irons.

Fully agree on the 2016 TM M2 16.5 HL comments - it is an absolute rocket and is very easy to hit off the deck. It has just enough loft that if you miss a groove thin you're still getting excellent carry (whereas a 14-15* falls out of air).

If you haven't already pulled the trigger you absolutely must try the Titleist TS2 before committing to anything else. I have never had a good relationship with my 3-wood, even back when I was in + index territory. Most recently I had a 917F2 in the bag and honestly I would get maybe 1 out of 5 shots that I would consider decent off the deck. That is more about me than it is the club of course but I still felt there was surely something that would work better for me.

I tested the TS2 last week with last year's Speeder Pro TS 84 in it and I have never seen such a dramatic change in playability from one club to the next. I'm now getting approx 3 out of 4 good results, and those good ones are better than anything I have ever seen from 3-wood. Well technically I'm playing a 4-wood (16.5*) but you get my drift.

1.50 SF on Trackman!!! Stunning club.

This is really fabulous stuff. Much appreciated. I drive it 260-270 and can’t attempt to reach a 500 par 5 in 2. The 17 degree is prolly more like 210 off ground 220 off tee.

Thank you all!

Cobra F6 baffler is a winner. The rails do indeed make it easy to hit from a variety of lies. I love the sound and find it surprisingly long with the shaft at 41.5 in. standard. Smaller head which is something I like looking at framing the ball.

Fairway wood was one of the biggest holes in my bag for a while. I had an m2 tour HL that I was on and off with. Recently got a rogue 4w and I love it completely. Its automatic for me and just gives me all the confidence in the world. Give it a try sometime!

Plus one on this - very impressed with Rogue 4 wood off the tee and each round I am feeling more confident with it off the turf.

I find myself in a similar situation to you (with a tad less distance) and find I struggle to get beyond the size of the modern fairway wood when trying to hit it off the deck. Two older models that you might consider that have a smaller footprint than most modern fairways are the TM V-Steel and the original Cleveland Launcher Titanium. Both can be found for a song with a little used bin or eBay stalking. If you sweep the ball with your hybrid I'd start with the Cleveland and if you hit down on the hybrid slightly, start with the V-Steel.

Cobra f6 Baffler. It is the best fairway wood I have ever played hitting from any lie. It is money from the rough.

Another vote for the Rogue 4W. Love how it sits at address. You can see plenty of loft, and it goes and goes. Getting the right shaft is also key. I like kiyoshi purple or ad-di in it.

Did you purchase the 4w with one of the shaft you mentioned, or did you have it installed after the fact?

I am just starting to get along with a rogue four wood but feel like the stock shaft might be a little too much for me

I have a feeling it’s shaft related not head related. Maybe try something with a little more kick to it

Have Cally 816 Alpha set at 16. It’s been better than most for me. But wish I still had my TEE Cb5 16.5 to compare. But thinking about G400 to match my driver. Wondering if I hit it even better off the deck.

I have the same problems as most off the deck issue with a 3 wood, the g400 is a monster if struck perfectly which is hard, otherwise harder for me to hit off the deck. Off the tee the Ping is a winner great head design and perfect consistent distance.

I have owned close to 15 sets of irons, 20 wedges, 15 drivers and 100 putters over the past 7 years. I have only played 2 fairway woods...the TM burner TP and the xhot pro. I broke down and tried the rogue FW and immediatly put it in the bag. Gained 7 yards of carry which is huge.

Now if I could just find a putter!

Do they sit open? Are they draw biased?

Yes and I'd think you'd be hard pressed to find a tour issue deep face version that doesn't sit open. Mine sits about 2.8 degrees open and is the only 3/4W I've never hooked the crap out of.

Thanks, I'm using a Tour edge XCGV, sits open.
