Golf confessions...

Sometimes I don't pull the pin when I'm putting and playing alone.

Sometimes I don't mark my ball when I adjust my alignment aid on it whilst putting.

Sometimes I ground my club in a hazard. Gasp!

That suggests the 7.5 showing isn't really 7.5, correct? :beach:

About 8 years ago at my former club my Saturday group and i showed up at the course thinking we could get out play 18. Come to find out there was a scramble tournament going off and we would have to wait. Rather than turn around and go home, we grabbed a few carts and instead of driving out to the range, we decided to mingle with the group of carts for the shotgun start. Of course we helped ourselves to the free refreshments and food being offered. We ended up getting pretty drunk and won third place. Fortunately, my buddy Wayne knew one guy in the tournament and no one suspected a thing.

This takes the cake - we got invited back the next year.

Haha that's pretty epic.

I play in baskeball shorts when its hot.

I never pull the pin.

I play two balls a hole when its empty.

When its late I play as many holes as I can when I only pay for 9 and i'm walking.

One local course lets you play free if you are on the university golf team, I guess they think I've been in college for 9 years now.

I’ve been known to carry a bag of marshmallows in my bag, and accidentally drop one or 2 if the group behind me is hitting into me when playing solo.

If you do the aforementioned and hit my cart, bag or within 6’ of me, it’s mine now. And I’ll just say “Yeah, it hit the cart and ricocheted over there somewhere. Thanks for the warning.”

I bring my own snacks and drinks, but I’m a sucker for a good Fritos Street Pie no matter the cost.

I pee wherever I can get away with it.

I rarely keep score when playing alone.

If I’m playing twilight 9 at my home course (27-hole) on a slow day, I skip around to whichever combo of 9 holes feels good that day. Or I just play the 5’s and 3’s.

If I’m solo and getting paired I do whatever I can to make sure it’s with someone older than me.

Cool thread. I can relate to many of these.

When playing alone, I neither pull the pin nor mark my ball properly. I mark it with my putter while cleaning it. And I only pull the pin on birdie putts.

I give myself gimmes inside the leather.

Our rough has gotten ridiculous. I’m losing 2 or 3 balls a round that are within a few yards of the fairway or green. So if I’m in a hurry, I drop it deep down but play on assuming that was my “found” ball.

I took a chunk out of my PW hitting a rock once, so now I just won’t play off rocks, roots, etc unless I’m playing in a tournament. Not worth the risk of getting hurt or ruining my clubs.

Oh, and I love golf. And I don’t care that it can be a bit elitist. And I don’t care that it is mainly enjoyed by “rich, white guys”. And I don’t care that it takes too much time and that I sometimes sneak off on quiet afternoons to play it. Dammit, I love the game and I’m going to keep playing it anyway, no matter what “society” says.

Only "rules" i follow are:

1.Fix/replace divots and pitch marks ive made (and usually 2-5 more bc people are obviously too cool for that anymore)

2. Dont hold anyone up.

Outside of that im just there to have fun and pretty laid back. 1/2 the time i dont even have a score card and usually hit 2-3 shots on most shots. Its just practice and beats the hell out of the range

I was taught to play golf by poor Black guys. All kinds of people play golf. I won't hit my $325 Miura wedge off a rock, but when I started following the rule of always holing out, my putting improved immensely. I've always repaired 3 ball marks for my one. I enjoy the fact that golf is the one of the only things I know that has rules that I completely respect, and make sense. Have you ever noticed that the rules in pro football/baseball seem to change from game to game?

Golf is fun, and it sounds like you're having lots of it.

I won’t rake bunkers that don’t have sand or enough sand.

I carry a bottle of Jameson in my bag.

I hate searching for golf balls more than a minute , mine or my friends.

I relish being in the first group and being two holes ahead at the turn.

I will call my friends and partners phone during mid swing.

I hate cart girls. Guys in my group act like morons around women.

I lose my wallet in my bag almost every week.

I should clarify my "gimmes" point...I sometimes get out late and am attempting to hurry to get done before dark. If I hit a good first putt to within a foot or two, I just rake it. I practice short putts all of the time for when I play "for real". And it is my understanding that it is perfectly legal to mark your ball with your putter. And for my "lost ball in the rough" point, same deal..when time is a concern just look for a couple of minutes but drop where I know the ball should be and play on. Our rough really is brutal right now, to the point that you can only find the ball if you are standing right over it.

I live in an area that is getting a little more "liberal", and work with folks that are definitely a bit more "liberal", (don't mean this as a political debate at all), and the general attitude that I've started to hear toward golf is that it is a "rich, white guy" game and that it is a crime against humanity to play golf instead of train for a marathon or work out or stay at work past 4-5pm on Fridays, etc. My primary playing partner is a rich, African American guy, so I don't know if that helps me look less "elitist", but I've just decided lately that I'm not going to let people try to convince me that it is inherently wrong for me to enjoy a game that is for "rich, white guys".

I roll out of divots in the fairway

I pee in random places

I use a speaker in my cart and play Old School Rap Radio

I sometimes scream obscenities (as long as there arent people around)

I move my ball off rocks, stumps etc.

I often bring beer in my bag...usually 8. Sometimes I come home with 6, other times none

Yeah I never hit off rocks or anything else that might damage the club. I don't get new equipment for free, so I'm not risking it.

- I generally play by the rules. Though, I won’t walk back to the tee to replay a shot outside of a serious competition.

- I don’t care what rules you play by if there’s nothing at stake between us, and I will never offer up the “correct” way to play. I probably won’t even notice what you’re doing.

- I get irritated if you ask how you’re “supposed” to proceed and you look at me like I’m crazy when I tell you.

. When i look you in the eye on the 1st tee in the Quarter Final of the knock-out and say "Have a good game / play well": I don't really mean it.....

. Don't think i'm not old school though. Smack-talk is for schmucks. Calling 'Get in the water' in my company gets you the back 9 on your own.

. I hate shaking your hand on the 18th. You seem to forget i've seen you pee behind at least 4 trees this round.

. Once i purposely hit it 3 fairways wide in a large depression (guaranteed loss) to sneak a smoke from a partner who despised the habit.

. I still think i'm a player; even though my career round was likely 15 years ago.

. I may act cool - but i'm likely more nervous than you on the 1st tee.

I played with a fellow who was overly meticulous and took too much time on each and every shot, and it really got tiring. He was also the chit chatty type on every aspect of his game and he was just a pita to play with. I confess that after finishing up on the 18th hole I felt like punching him in the eye instead of shaking his hand, even though I shook his hand and smiled. Can you hear me rm?

- A few times when riding as a single, I've lied and said that I needed to take a separate cart because I may have to leave early if my wife needs me to pick up the kids. Although I like meeting new people on the course and have no problem making acquaintances, I've been stuck in a cart with an a-hole before and it makes a round of golf miserable.

- Once, in a tight match, I didn't stop a competitor from hitting into the wrong green (not proud of that one).
