Mizuno 919 Hot Metal Pro Series.

I'm all for a HM Pro/Tour version if Mizuno is thinking that they need a player's/low-hdcp distance iron in addition to their current MP and JPX offerings. I think the only way Mizuno does these is they make them with similar specs as TM's P790s in size/offset. Same Hot Metal tech but in a size and offset that would be between the 919 Tours and 919 Forged. Maybe use initials "JPX 919 HM Pro"

I heard the Hot Metal Pro are a copy of the Players Distance Iron niche that's getting so popular like PXG, P790, I500, etc.

Those are pretty different so not sure how it copies them all... might be better to say it addresses the same market.

That said, many are reporting distances with the 919 forged that are only slightly behind the HM, or the i500. If that becomes commonplace, it's reasonable to ask what else an HM Pro brings to the table.

Based on the fact that the 919 fitting carts have open clubhead spots marked with that name, I have to say yes.

IMO, a bit of fail not announcing it with the rest given this lets the cat out of the bag anyway. No matter what, there are going to be questions about where the HM Pro sits vs the JPX Forged regardless of when it's unveiled, and getting your own messaging and position out there is almost always preferable to unfounded speculations that'll otherwise fill the void.

Would it be funky to have a combo Hot Metal 4-6 then Tour 7-P?

Probably. Plus you might need HM 5-7 and Tour 7-P to get the yardages right.

I've been thinking of MP 18 FliHi 4-6 and 919 Tour 7-PW. Bending the lofts of the FliHis to get the gapping right. Anyone see any potential issues with this setup?

I have hit all the new 919 stuff. If you like the genre of club the HM falls under, you will love it!!! Great looking, feeling, performing club! ;)

Any thoughts on 919 HM vs the 900 version, any real improvement or mainly cosmetic?

I don't notice an appreciable difference hitting both a couple demo sessions.

Sounds a little like an AP3 challenger?

Sure sounds like it and it's a welcome addition to any OEM product line. For a 10hdcp like me who thinks the forged are not forgiving enough yet can't get along with the significantly more chunky Hot Metal something in between is just what I need.

It's not just about looks either. When fitting, we can't get the Hot Metal in the correct fitting window where the forged are the right club on paper but, just not forgiving enough. I have the same issue between AP1 and AP2. AP3 for me is a perfect fit.

Thanks to Titleist and Miz for adding the clubs I've been waiting a long time for! I've called out PING on this before. I'd love to see them put something in between the i210 and the g400. Specifically something with a little longer blade length for forgiveness. See, 10 handicapers don't necessarily need more height or higher launch/lower spin, or more offset. They just need a little more blade length to allow for our 50 cent coin miss range vs the pro/single digit who has a strike pattern the size of a dime.

Totally agree. For the last few years I've been on a search for longer blade length with minimal offset. Only getting out a few times a year means I really need the forgiveness but don't have an issue getting the ball airborne. My "crazy" won't allow me to have a mish-mash set of irons so 0311X 5 iron, with XF 6-7 and "P" in 8-G is what I rock. I tried the MMC and Fli-hi MP before the PXG but just not as forgiving. Between the JPX Fli-Hi utility rumored and these I may be able to try something different. I haven't played Mizuno since T-Zoid Pro and love the looks of the newest JPX.

old as the hills now, but the j40dpc's were exactly what I wanted when I wanted a low offset longer length iron. The reminded me of my old Ram ProSet long irons I had in the early 90's

would love for Bridgestone to re-release the j40dpc irons. I loved mine and cannot tell you how many times I have kicked myself for selling them.

Ever so slightly longer, a yard or two, same feel, same dispersion, more or less the same trajectory.

Yes, the Forged is a natural upgrade from the HM with some loft adjustment

Has anyone actually seen these?

It looks exactly like the hot metal but smaller head, thinner sole, thinner topline, and less offset.

Nice, when did you see them? Any idea when the carts will get demo heads?

Any word if there will be a 2 or 3 iron in these to compete in the driving iron market?

What is gonna be the difference between the hm pro and the forged. Hm slightly more forgiving and slightly stronger lofts?

Based on their inherent design, HM is a cup face for better ball speed on off-center hits; the forged has thinned out its face for more ballspeed and will still be more playable from various lies due to its smaller size - and you will probably not see the back of the sole on longer irons as one does with the HM. Just a guess based on the present irons and description of HM Pro

This topic has REALLY got my attention! I currently play HM 900’s and am pretty happy with them. I’ve been testing the 919’s and am settling on a split set of HM 4-6 and Forged 7-P. The new Hot Metal 919 is longer and higher than the 900 and is a great club with one problem, (for me), the occasional “jumper”. I hit a teed up 7, 180 yards the other day, not good. My normal distance might stretch to 160. That’s why I’m looking to the Forged. The 919 Forged is more forgiving than the 900 and has the buttery feel of a blade. A concern is the gapping of the split set.

The HM Pro sounds like it would be perfect. The name alone helps with our egos. If I had a wish list, I’d make the low irons forged, or ?, to accomplish what I’m looking to do with the 919’s split set. Mizuno would corner the market for the “better” player.

I was checking this line out today. The HM 919 has quite a wide sole. Disguised by the different finishes splitting it, but it is wide and that explains why these are so forgiving despite the low bounce. To my eye the Tour and Forged looked better but I could see a HM as a long iron replacement instead of a hybrid. I am going to hit them all at some point and I want to see the HM Pro. But I am thinking 9-P in the Tour and the rest 919 Forged. With the thinner face on the Forged it seems you get all the distance you need and I don’t necessarily see an advantage to the HM. The Pros really will be tweeners.

This is just about what I just ordered:

4-9 Forged

PW Tour 1*strong

At Carl’s Golf Land outside with real ball flight, the Forged are just lovely. Seemingly more responsive from a subjective “feel” and sound standpoint than my P790’s which I love. Recently, while my 919’s are being built, I went back to my 900 Forged and surprised I left them for the P790’s. I think the distance gain 5-7 yards at the same club speed and spin with the P790’s seduced me. In the end I will not leave Mizuno Forged irons in some form ever again. Bank it

Soon! :)

Will these have less offset than forged? I would consider a 2 iron and 4 iron paired with 919 tour 5-pw if that’s the case, not a huge fan of the forged look

Geez. Now I don't know whether to wait for these or go with a combo of the existing 919 series.

I can’t see the Hot Metal pro add more “player” like design characteristics than the Forged?

My guess would be Tour/ Forged/ HM Pro/ HM in terms of size, top lines, soles, forgiveness etc...

And/Or

HM pro adds 2-3-4 irons like a JPX version of the MP Fli-Hi series.
