Anyone prefer the "older" smaller cases over the new larger ones?

Besides for investment purposes.

I still prefer old school size watches. I did buy a Heuer Monaco for Father's day as the square shape doesn't look as bizarre to me as the Flavo Flav sized round watches. Gonna buy a rose gold Santos for the same reason and to complete a set: I want each of my son's to have a gold watch as a remembrance...….when I pass.

I finally retired my SS Daytona and picked up a Heur Aquaracer as my new hunting watch, About to ship the Daytona to Dallas for a refurb before I put it I the safe. Ironically it has already served it's purpose as an investment without even knowing it, the whole time being used & abused..

Those Daytona's are rare though, i remember a few years back people were begging distributors/retailers for them but Rolex never made a fraction of the demand.

As the weather gets colder, the steel bracelets get swapped out

sy41kx.jpg

My favorite watch by far to wear in the cold months is my Seiko Samurai on a black Zulu. I actually even went diving with it in August and it was fantastic.

Funny enough, my most complimented watch is my crappy Timex that I wear on various nylon straps. My $300 SARB that I'm wearing right now gets no 2nd glances. Pretty much the only reason I haven't splurged on an Omega or Hamilton yet is that I know only other watch enthusiasts would care. 98% of people who I ever talk about watches to know little to nothing. They know "ROLEX = REALLY GOOD" and that's about it.

I love my Hamilton too

Yes. I bought it in '04 for $7K (black face) then bought a gold one the following year (yellow/dark MOP face). So I wore the SS everywhere- all of my hunting trips, all of my family vacations, etc.

Went to Aruba and was looking Rolexes in '13 and was nonchalant with the SS, told the salesperson my nicer gold one was home...….only to find out it has appreciated in value as SS is "rarer...…." Kept on hearing that everywhere else I went. Started hunting Africa last year, so I finally made the change.

But with Rolex it is all about marketing, they are certainly not valued at all for their (lack of) complications. After all when was the cosmograph movement finally made in house? The late 90s?????

I'm not sure about the cosmograph. That predates my watch enthusiasm. I did not jump into the fold until 2009-2010.

Nice job with the SS appreciation. It is always nice when it works out that way.

Oooo that crown is very interesting. Do tell?

It is called a canteen crown. Its basically a screw down cap for the actual crown that is under neath. Its part of their Navy Frogman line of watches.

My first ever big boy watch was this Tag Heuer Indy 500 I bought back in 2007 or 2008. During that time, I thought I made a huge mistake, but when I put the watch on and noticed a huge difference between some $20 watch I bought off of Marshalls or Ross and the feel and weight of the Tag, I instantly fell in love. I havent taken care of it the best, but now that I'm diving head first into this rabbit hole, I'm going to have it regularly maintained since it was my first big purchase.

Fast forward to just last month and I made my first automatic purchases. I didnt know at the time before I purchased these two Seikos that Seiko has a really good reputation for providing quality watches that can fit any budget and even producing some real classics. I always thought they were cheap watches that were poor quality but tried to look upscale. But then me and a cousin of mine started talking and started talking about Seiko and Grand Seiko and I was instantly hooked. I dont know what page I saw it from, but when I saw the Cocktail Time SRPB43, I instantly fell in love with it. I ended up buying the SRPB46 as well as I love the color combo. The price of both equaled the price of the OG SARB065 so I went with the two watches instead.

Extremely happy with my purchases so far but I've been constantly searching for my next purchase and I'm thinking either a Seiko SKX007K2 or an SNA411, but then again, a watch that I have always wanted is an Omega Seamaster and may ultimately hold off on all purchases until I can save enough to get one. Breitling has also intrigued me so it'll be fun and interesting to see when I can make that big purchase, which watch will I choose.

I am a fan of Breitling. A very good durable watch that doesn't scream "look at me" but is quietly respected by those who know of it.

So about two years ago we had a party at my house and in my excitement i got to "amnesia-mode" of drinking. Right as I was crossing the conscious/unconscious barrier, i "hid" my Breitling SuperOcean somewhere on our top floor. I have not been able to find it but i know it is somewhere in our nightmare storage closet.

Fast forward to last night... My fiancee and i were at a Jewelry store picking out our rings for our wedding and she surprised me by buying me this as a pre-wedding present. I think i hit the future wife lottery

It is a IWC Pilot's Watch Chronograph Spitfire.

I will make sure i never take this off if i go into amnesia-mode again.

Wow!

Nice piece. Very, very, cool.

That's very cool. I don't know much about that watch series - is it meant for sailors?

Probably not, more just a unique field watch

Do it... the Seiko divers are so good. I had an 007 and sold it and then got the Samurai (SRPB51) as an upgrade.

Ps here's one of my Seiko's that I wear daily to work and also more formal events. I have about 4 leather straps for it, but the links were so hard to get back on, I'm almost definitely never taking them back off. I'd rather buy another watch specifically to have leather straps than have to do that again...

Really digging this Tissot. I have one that I just love, but given my office has gone to more business casual than business dress (and I got a DateJust...) I haven't worn it in years.

I've been debating again about getting an Apple Watch or another "every day" watch, but the jeweler I got my Rolex from basically said treat it like you would any other watch and just wear it 24/7, so I've struggled ever wearing anything else. My dad has a DateJust as well and wears it working around the house and in the garden. Once the guy told him to just wear it and treat it like a watch and not a piece of jewelry, I don't think my dad has taken it off.

It wears really well on a steel mesh bracelet. Looks kinda Breitling like
