Upgraded My Irons

So yesterday I took the plunge and upgraded my irons. I went from the 2017 M2s to a set of P770s.

During testing yesterday, I was out hitting my M2s by 10 odd metres a club. The M2s have a Reax 88 shaft whilst the P770s have a FLT Tour R 110. Any ideas as to why I was outhitting my M2s. Even the fitter said that’s strange and that the sound and performance of my M2s seemed off. Could they be faulty heads. I’ve never really seen a big distance from them at all, which I always thought was weird.

What is everyone’s thoughts?

Most likely those particular 88gm shafts weren't a great fit for you. They could very well be spinning up and dropping short. Plus, the P770's sound/feel fantastic, so the M2 are definitely not going to sound good when compared head to head.

Woods/Fairways:  Callaway with Mitsubishi shafts

88 grams to 110 is alot

Hit both in same shaft if you really wanna see....could you time a heavier shaft better....

Sequencing in the swing is critical...

Humans are most inconsistent part of golf...day to day we change more than anything else in golf....could be alot of things....

Usually takes many rds on golf course to see any consistent results....have done myself many crazy one day scenarios....both on course and on monitors....I usually take one day with grain of salt....raises an eyebrow for sure but let it play out and see what happens

Fir sure weight or feel of shaft can be huge tho

You have any issues with ball striking moving to the 770s? I just mean in terms of mishits being worse than mishits off the m2s?

Have played 27 holes with them now. Going through a swing change atm due to lessons. I find that a miss struck shot isn’t any different to a miss hit on the M2s. I think dispersion on the 770s is way tighter than my M2s. Again could be due to a better shaft being fit for me. Overall I think the p770 good shots are far better than a good m2 shot

Thanks makes sense. I’m adding the 770 to my list to try.

I hit the m4s the other day and they are stupid easy and stupid long but went left on every shot (which could just be my swing)

I hit the 7 iron (6 iron traditional loft) 178 yards 5 or 6 times which is pretty long for me. (I know I know that’s a smooth 8 for most WRXers) I normally hit my 6 iron 170 max, average is more like 165. At any rate, I’m gonna demo the 770s to see if they are straighter.

Put it this way, just played in our comp at our club. I play off 16.

I just hit 82 off the stick with these.

The ball flight of these compared to my M2s is unreal. I’m at least a club longer with these. They are the best club I have ever hit hands down. And I go up and test most new clubs at our local golf store. Recommend without doubt the p770s

Nice 82 man. I play off a 13 and 82-85 makes me smile wide. So these sound right in my wheel house. They look incredible so if they play half as good ....looks like I’ll be taking the morning off tmw to get some “personal stuff” taken care off.

Probably a ballooning issue with the previous set, should always look for a boring and flat ball flight if you want max and consistent distance. Not sure where I heard this but "you should swing the stiffest shaft you can handle"
