Best custom putter for the money ?

Recommended Posts

Maltby Puretrack, I believe it's the PT 01.. Can be bought as a club pak for $90 or mix and match a shaft and grip as you like. Custom build it any way you like. Japanese forged carbon steel milled to shape. People are blown away when they roll this putter. I'll put it up against anything in any price range. 00726396fa0be511eeebd471009edcff.jpgfb8a67615daabf44c3229fd771a1fca7.jpg

That's a lovely shape. Monterey. Does it come in a PN variant.. $90. Can't go wrong. The sole is too busy as the only minus for me.

It's not a custom putter though if you can't choose headweight, shape, neck style, engraving, facemill, or alignment aids.

Ah ok,, I just struggle with that concept of wildly over paying for a putter. I get the one of one and design it how you like it,,, but ouch on the price.

Yet I'll buy a Rouge driver and not think twice so what do I know.

All things considered it's hard to go against Lajosi for the money. Lots of unique head options and no crazy upcharges for different necks or finishes.

Byron is great too if you know what you want, go directly through him instead of the sales reps, and don't want a lot of chit chat. If you go away from standard neck and finishes though the upcharges add up quick!

Going to throw Black Lab Putters by Chip Usher into this mix. I have yet to pull the trigger on a putter of his but they look absolutely fantastic. From what I understand, it's a full range of custom options for under the price of an OTR Scotty Cameron (but not certain). I made another purchase from Chip before and can't say enough kind things about how great he is to work with. You'll find comments about his work in the forums that substantiate that as well. He has some ready to ship stuff available through his eBay store (user: chipaputt), but check out his site for the full slate of custom options. If you don't see something, reach out to him as he will likely be able to help.

Am I missing something there? His putters do look great though.

Shoot him an email- Mine had a welded neck, plated finish, custom cavity engraving and was within the OP’s price range.

I can’t recommend Kari Lajosi enough especially with the cheap Aussie dollar. I’ve been in his workshop where he produces all sort of amazing putters in a great variety of materials including home made Damascus. I have two from him, a DD201 wide and a sort of bullseye flange which is incredible, my avatar is one of them.

Kingston (Kyle) makes amazing putters as well in SS and GSS. Love my KP1/GSS, which I rotate in my bag with the Lajosis.

Either Lajosi or Kingston. With Lajosi you get to take advantage of the exchange rate and Kari makes a great putter. I love mine. Got it for about $400. With Kingston you can get a GSS putter for $350. Also excellent craftsmanship. Their lead designer used to work for Bettinardi.

My favorites are Lajosi and Piretti. Don't know if you consider Piretti custom but they will do a decent amount of customization and I have been emailing with Kari Lajosi about ordering a fully custom DD201 but they start at $520 ish plus shipping from Australia so might have to go to ebay or the marketplace here for one. Plenty of good deals on them occasionally

I've ordered 3 from him, 2 from C&L and 1 from Black Lab. Built, stamped, finished to whatever specs I wan't for less than $350. He makes a fantastic product and as you stated is great to work with. Don't wait any longer, pull the trigger :p

Love Lamont's work but I've heard that you should be prepared to wait. He's really in demand and probably always backed up. Was tough to get a hold of him and keep a convo going.

I'd avoid Xenon at all cost. Low cost and really cool putters but let's just say some of us here have had less than stellar experiences with him.

Really the downside of all the custom guys is communication and wait times. Lamont isnt best at either...but well worth the wait. Lumpy has gone through some tough times. I remember your thread, and feel your pain. Almost bought that mallet you had a few times lol.

For speed and communication...go woth Chip from Blacklab. Not as many cool options bit he makes some nice stuff.

I wouldnt really consider piretti anymore...they are getting very close to bigtime...custom stuff will cost a fortune.
