I truly hope Taylor Made doesn't mess too much with the TP5X as its a great ball. If they do mess it up I'll load up on the current model. That's one good thing TM does that Titleist doesn't is put their prior models on sale.

I am with you on this, hopefully they don't change much. I was fortunate enough to find a couple TP5x's in the rough this year and played them long enough to become a fan. I had planned to switch exclusively to them once my current stash of ProV1's are gone.

I agree. I play either the TP5 or AVX, but have been playing mostly AVX because it comes in yellow.

All else being equal, the TP5x should spin a hair less off the driver. But they're supposed to be very close to each other.

I always dread ball updates once I find a ball I like. The TP5X has been my preferred ball this year due to it being the best combo of distance and greenside performance I've found. Unfortunately, I've been through this same scenario with Titleist, Bridgestone, Srixon, and Callaway In the past where they update a ball I love, and it just isn't the same.

 

Part of that is due to the fact that most companies probably aren't trying to optimize balls for moderate swing speed/high spin (probably too-high!) players ...

I use to hate colored balls mainly because there was never a premium ball offering that was colored. Tried the yellow Chrome Soft and haven’t looked back. I also like the Project (a) and based on some comparisons there’s not much difference between it and the TP5.

I definitely prefer white golf balls and play them most of the time. I'm now 67 years of age. In the last year or two, under certain sky conditions, especially poor contrast days, I simply cannot see a white ball in the air. Golf already is challenging and can be frustrating. Believe me when I say that when you hit a shot and cannot see it, watch its flight, or see where it lands, the game's frustration can become overwhelming. Even though I can sense where my shot is headed by where I hit it off the face, there have been times I don't even know where to look for my ball.

 

Colored golf balls are a Godsend for many.

 

I see some of the yellow shades better than others. I see a few of the orange balls best.

I’m the same. I hope they update the X to make it spin more, a la the 2016 TPx. That was a great ball. If they give the X more spin with mid-short irons but keep the long game performance it will be an all timer.

I’m really hoping all they fix is that cover and the alignment aid event though I don’t use it. They are kinda ugly. The cover just gets beaten up too quick.

 

I actually wouldn’t mind seeing TM go the Bridgestone route with the big B but, in TMs case, their own logo. I like that a lot more and think it’s way more appealing. It definitely gets your attention where as, with all other balls, if your eye sight is decent / goodish, then you need to be standing right over the ball and even touch them sometimes to show the brand and number (assuming it’s a white ball and you’re playing a white ball). Just my 2 cents.

I trust my local pro shop guy complicity, he knows I only swing driver about a 100mph, but knew I was looking for more height with my woods. The TP5X is ridiculously easy to hit for an €œX. Such a better ball than the ProV1x and even the ProV1, and it is not really close for me at least. I am going to have to buy a few more dozen with the sale going on.
