I thought these “filler” shows for Golf Channel couldn’t get worse than that bizarre and ridiculous Top Golf series, but The Golf Channel has outdone itself this time with the sheer boredom and slow moving Driver vs Driver show.

 

So weak at so many levels.

Last night i saw driver vs driver for the first time and found it to be rather boring. Then again every time i hear the word “tech” or anything close my brain ignores it. Never been a big fan of Wilson drivers but the FG100 irons are pure awesomeness in every way.

My favorite part (tongue in cheek) was that anybody could take world ranked # 587 Ricky Barnes seriously giving his opinion on anything golf equipment related. Streelman, Merrett have at least has some success on tour, but listening to Barnes state that he might consider driver A, B, whatever the next time he tees it up on tour. Exactly which tour stop would that be? Is the Hooters Tour still around? Just takes what little cred Wilson may have left get dissed even more as this show continues. Can't wait for the next Wilson Triton to hit the market.

Bring back Shell's Wonderful World of Golf!

 

The Golf Channel was awesome when I first started the game in 2000 with that show, Golf Channel Academy, and Peter Kessler doing interviews but when Big Break came out, I thought it was a nice novelty and won't last more than a season...then came Big Break 2, 3,4 5, 6, 7, etc and a whole slew of reality shows and I simply tuned out and haven't watched more than 10 minutes at a time since.

The first season was interesting for about 5 minutes (mostly because of Melanie Collins), but jumped the shark the minute Tim Clarke dismissed drivers because they lacked 'in your face' visible tech. He basically wanted a something with a flashing red light inside of it, and a catchy name for marketing.

 

Clarke then proceeded to lose everybody when they chose the clanky Triton, after Herm Edwards supposedly hit it 300 yards with his 75mph driver speed. (it's a must see video, if you haven't seen it).

 

On the flip side, the Wilson FG Tour V6 irons are literally as good or better than anything on the market. Period. The Duo ball lineup has been fantastic for a lot of people.

 

Why on earth didn't they just design a V6 driver, or Duo driver? All they needed to do was reverse engineer a G400 Max without the Turb's, and you have a winner. Marketing the driver by building on the Duo name would have been easy as hell.

 

I hate to pile on, but with someone like Clarke making the decisions at Wilson, they will likely struggle to see any significant market share gain in golf clubs. I have no doubt that this seasons winner will be just as dumb as the Triton.

I'm a Wilson fan at heart my first set of golf clubs that I actually paid for were Wilson . It was a box set and they stunk and my game stunk I think I hit so many hostel rockets I knocked several wood and iron heads loose as a few of them flew off . None the less I still liked the Wilson deep red driver and the fat shaft irons I didn't buy them but was a fan . The recent players irons and blades have been a lot better . Now for the Driver vs Driver oh boy this show is not my favorite is what I will say . I think the idea is bad why tell the story of a gamble on a new designer? Wilson needs to go the way of PXG pay some designers more money to come to Wilson from one of the big guys . The American idol formula for a Driver competition brilliant!! No no it's not come on Wilson .
