Ping G400 Hybrid 3

Not sure if this is the right spot, but here I go. I bought this hybrid about a month ago, I hit it at the store on their simulator and I was crushing it 225-230 yards, dead straight, 10-15 yard dispersion on the 12-15 balls I hit. I've played 2 rounds with it, and 3 trips to the range and it is a completely different story. When I hit it flush, it is huge snap hook. My normal ball flight is pretty straight, my miss is a pull left. It's the only club in my bag that does this. The only time I can get this hybrid to fly straight is if I hit it off the heel or toe but and the carry is only about 160 yards. I can't return it since I've already played it, any suggestions on what I can do?I'm starting to think I should have bought the 5w I was looking at instead. It has the stock ping alta 70 stiff shaft, btw.

I say this only because I did it for several range sessions and part of my first round -- is the clear sticker still on the face of the club?

Something changed, either in your swing or in the conditions your testing/playing in. The club is the same.

I was crushing mine in the sim as well when I hit it for the first time ~220-225, and I hit it just as well on the course. it's one of my favorite clubs and I hit it off the tee more than more FW.

I have to hold my G a little open at address and it goes and goes. SN: If you have a PGA superstore anywhere close to you, buy from them as they have a play-ability program and you get full store credit up to 90 days even on clubs that have been played. Problem solved.

Yeah I've noticed that when I swing the hybrid I am coming more over the top. Not sure why, its the only club that is making me do this. I hit every club from my driver, 3w down to 6 iron yesterday and the hybrid is the only one causing problems. I did hit a little better, moving it even further back in my stance but the hook was still there more often than not.

Depends on your swing mechanics.

My occasional OTT swing is a big push slice.

I know that ball flight very well. When it creeps up I have to consciously try to keep my back to the target longer so I get back on plane. Doesn’t always work especially if my back is sore

I also tend to open to face a bit at address with the G hybrid, unless I am going right for some reason that day. I don’t usually have problems hooking it unless I hit it off the toe. Just a little out towards the toe with the G and it’s going left to some degree, maybe just a little draw or if it’s way out there then it’s a straight up hook. Otherwise I love it. Love the shape and how it sits nice and low to the ground, I hate the hybrids that have the high toe and/or the deep face.

+1. A lot of over the top moves on the downswing comes from not gettng fully back on the backswing. The thought of holding your back to the target even an extra half-beat gives that coil and sensation, which also triggers your body’s natural weight shift back to your target side, also helping you stay on plane. Too many people try to “shift” their weight to their lead side. It is a subtle shift that happens naturally in sequence if you coil back properly and definitely will end that over the top pull hook.

One more tip on hybrids: Line the ball up 1/4 inch to the heel side of middle. The head shape optics cause many players to line up and hook hybrids on the toe side.

I've had a salesperson at GG comment that sidespin numbers on Trackman may not be quite as accurate as launch angle, backspin, etc... not sure if that's true, but I tend to feel the same way in store - everything is straight or a minimal fade or draw, but I have a lot more variability on the course..

The 3H wasn't very long for me but that being said it was very easy to hit. Ultimately I went with the 7W instead.

Man, I go back and forth. Agree G400 hybrid is easy to hit and I also like the shape of the TM M4 hybrids. But I also have a Titleist 915F 7 wood with Diamana Blue and I hammer that thing. Shaft is a factor as I love that shaft, and maybe I ought to throw a Diamana hybrid Blue, like a 70 gram x flex, in a G400 and see how that plays.
