Sad to think that he could have been one helluva Ryder Cup Captain. Maybe there's still time, altho I'm pretty sure that today's "youts", to quote Joe Pesci in "My Cousin Vinny", wouldn't appreciate either his service, his process of learning the game, but if they could capture his desire for excellence....I think we would return and retain the cup!

Got curious and looked up the 1970 Masters on Wikipedia. Check this out:

 

"It was the final Masters tournament as a player for 1938 champion Henry Picard, who withdrew without finishing the first round.[5] Three-time Masters champion Sam Snead finished in a tie for 23rd place at the age of 57. It was the Masters debut of two-time champion Tom Watson, then a 20-year-old amateur from Stanford who shot 77-76 and missed the cut by three strokes."

 

That's a lot of generational overlap right there.

It was an incredible time. So often we get caught up with Palmer, Jack and the "Hogan Accident" that we forget the other greats in the late 60's and early 70's. A guy name Ray Floyd was starting to find himself too.

I'm wondering if he is trying to demonstrate what normal people do in their swings, exaggerated of course. His "Natural Golf" swing was very much less handsy and relied on being in the slot for a very long time, a la DeChambeau, in order to minimize mishits.
