Titleist 2018 Concept Irons (pics Pg 1 & 5)

Recommended Posts

There is a bigger spread of pictures on the Golfwrx Instagram page that is posted above. The early reports I have seen rate these at least one club longer than players previous irons. Superior feel and distance. But a price tag of double a standard set of irons. Not going to be for everyone. That is why they only produce limited sets.

I have always been a blade player and I was not impressed with the early spy pics, but I think these are growing on me and I can honestly say I would consider a set.

Topline and offset looks nice. How’s the leading edge and sole. I want an iron to cut not bounce.

Hahahaha. So funny. I want the opposite. I want lots of bounce and a pre worn leading edge.

Top line and overall shape look nice. Still not crazy about the badging but I can fix that issue with my trusty lead tape! ; )

I agree. Now that I see more of the iron they look like a blade I could game. But back down on earth Par can still be broken with MP14's, Top Flites and a Titleist Howitzer (cira 1993) while using a 56* lob. SAVE YOUR $$$$$$!!!

- Something that continues to go long off the tee in the fairway
- Something that is a fairway finder when needed and long
- Something that high, consistent and helps with par 5’s
-  Something to help with long par3’s and short par 4’s

-  Something metal, lots of them and go the gaps I need
- Something metal, 2x of them and helps me 120y and in
- Putters - limited rotation because I cannot afford misses

Golf is what you make of it.  Play grateful and accepting. We are all lucky to have it.

Rather than expecting lets all try and appreciate instead.
Treat people the way you want to be treated

Like wet terrain?? Hahahaha, No. I just don’t have a choice here. It’s usually soft and I’m a bit steep.

I already throw divots the size of small children around the course!! I definitely don’t need a diggy zero bounce golf club up here.

i500’s do look quite interesting. I’ve haven’t seen them in hand yet.

The thing is, I’m so happy with my Hogan PTx that I’m not even looking for new clubs.. I’ve tried Ap2, Cally Cf16, iblade, e1, S55, and pxg 0311T since I’ve had them over the past 3 years and nothing has had a chance to kick them out of the bag.

I just enjoy trying new clubs, but in reality I know I’ve found a long term set. I went through 3 sets of Mizuno MSX from 1993 to 2015 before I finally switched to the Hogans. When I find something I like I generally stick with it.

... I never understand how the back of a club can garner so many opinions. How thick is the topline and sole? How long is it heel to toe? What kind of steel is it made from? What are the lofts? How much offset? None of these are answered by a picture of the back of a club yet so many love or hate them because of a useless picture.

Agree......I'm fairly sure I could take a P790, jig it up in a CNC milling machine to get something close to the Titleist. It looks to me as if they're falling over themselves to come up with PXG lookalikes. I've been trying almost every club on the market over the last few months....well years....and value for money, nothing can beat the Srixon irons. I even bought a set of P790s and after a while I sold them and went back to my Srixons.

I'm thinking that if the back of the club had no milling and rather looked like a 70's MacGregor blade with a discreet "Titlieist" on the muscle and "proto" on the back of the toe then they'd have something. While I'm at it, I believe the T-MB hasn't done well because people spending that much money for a club want it to be a blade (cosmetically anyway) hence the success of the PXG, i500, P790. Instead, the T-MB looked like one of those multi-piece Titleist/JP wedges that exactly nobody wanted. To many, the club looked cheap, not expensive. IMO, the T-MB would have been a great success along with never giving PXG a foothold, if the club looked "better". That's why it's so important that the club has "good looks", the back included.

BTW, the "PT" in would mean PROTO-TYPE.

Any news on the cncpt 1 irons? I'm guessing the 2 is the bigger of the two models

Bigger cavity style from what I have heard, suppose to fit in around AP1/AP3 where this one is suppose to fit in between the MB and CB.

I haven't had any luck finding out what the loft specs are of this set. Does anyone know? I would assume a little stronger than the MB/CB

I haven’t jived with the feel of Titleist iron releases since the 710cb’s. Defintely not saying the performance isn’t there just seem very firm to me. I wanted to love the 718 AP2’s and the CB’s just couldn’t do it. I’ve gamed my buddies C16’s for fun with similar results. The best feeling irons I’ve played in recent years are surprisingly Ping S55’s and iBlades. Both cast, go figure. I know I’m going to get flamed for this since all humanity knows I’ve spent far to much on club experiments over the past 20yrs but 3k plus for a set of irons just feels like a money grab. BB

Wow, those new photos are a YUGE disappointment. They look like a updated T-MB, which to me is already the worst looking thing on the high end market. It seems that the market has resoundingly shown that it wants something that appears to be "one piece", or a fake blade (ie-PXG, i500, P790, etc.). These look like toy clubs to me. I'm sure they'll perform just fine but, in this crowded market, looks matter.

I just can't help but see these JP wedges every time I see a multi-piece Titleist iron. Just when all the other OEM's are making waves with players' distance irons that ape one-piece blades, Titleist goes with this, and instead of a faux blade you get a multi-material faux cavity back.....for twice the price. I'd have thought that they'd learned something. I just can't possibly see these being a commercial success. That is the goal, right?

I imagine Titleist's design director owning one of these-
