Junior Wedges

I went ahead and got the Cleveland 56 degree wedge for her at the PGA Superstore. She loved the look of it but when we got home and she tried it out, it was still a little heavy for her. I'm going to put it away for now and let her hit it when she gets a little stronger. Even with the junior shaft, it is still significantly heavier than the US kids or Flynn wedges.

 

Any new feedback on the Cleveland Junior wedge? My son is still having trouble hitting sold FULL swing shots with the USKG TS3 56* wedge. 3/4 and down swings is fine, just full swing doesn't seem to grab the club face (as Kekoa described, seems to ride up the club face). Never had that problem with the UL's. May pull out the previous UL to see how he does, although it will be a bit shorter. Its becoming a noticeable problem.

No. Never thought to, I don't think its a defect issue or anything.

My son is almost 11. We are going with the Cleveland RTX built for him. Just have him sized and fitted and you can get them with the KBS jr shape that matches best

Cleveland junior wedges are nice but they have a KBS steel shaft in them. My daughter was 10 when I got her one and the club was just too heavy for her. Got her some Cleveland ladies wedges with graphite shafts and she loves them. So in short, all about the weight of the club and what your kid can handle.

You can customize the RTX4 on the website with graphite shafts. They even have the oh so popular UST Recoil.

I didn’t know about that. I think that may have been a new thing because I checked online before I bought her the wedge. Seems like Cleveland has eliminated that issue so no reason not to go with the junior wedge now.

Have not. The boy plays Vokey now so haven't had a need to investigate. I'm still impressed with the spin I see kids get with the US Kids wedges. I sort of think they might be illegal grooves.

Yes. On short chips and pitches, I think the US Kids wedges are great. I just sometimes see the ball fly like others have described on full shots—like it climbs up the face and comes off the club different than I would expect.

Kekoa hit it. Lots heavier tan fly us kids.i did have my done by Edel who 100 percent custom so they took some weight off but not a lot.

 

In terms of performance in our two days the ball will check fast. I would bet this will be an adjustment for her, but a good one.

 

She never went the Cleveland route but those are the same heads as the adults just less weight. The steel i think you can get away with more with wedges but can always get it reshafted. Recoil makes some great light weight ones.

 

You took an Edel wedge head and had them grind some weight off? I played Edel wedges for a while. Spun more than anything else I've had, but I chunked shots with them (never chunk with my md3's). Will be curious to see how she does with them. I'm in central TX also.
