Shot Scope V2 - GPS Watch with Tracking

Recommended Posts

Sorry to bring this back... is everyone still liking their shot scope v2?

I need a new watch because I’ve developed some type of allergic reaction to my Garmin S60 (will sell it and get something else), Garmin sent me a new unit thinking it might help but it looks the same to me

Bad news....

Mine broke last Sunday.

When I picked my bag up, the strap snagged on the wristband, pulled it out the pins and in doing so, snapped the shot sensor strips that (I didn't know) are embedded in the strap. The GPS still worked and the bluetooth too but when I downloaded my round, it had only picked up 17 shots....

Good news....

Got in contact with Shot Scope Monday lunchtime, within 2 hours a free, no quibble replacement was on its way. Superb customer service.

So lessons learned....

1. Don't try changing the straps - I know, common sense maybe but I have seen comments where people have said they don't like them and can they be changed - no they can't!

2. Shot Scope customer service is ace

3. They could do with redesigning the sensors to make it a bit more robust

I had a similar incident last weekend. When I took my Shot Scope out of the valuables pocket of my golf bag, the protective cover was missing. Was unable to find the cover in the pocked. The Shot Scope worked fine, but doubt it's now weatherproof. Contacted customer repair to see if I could get a replacement cover. They requested a photo of the damaged Shot Scope, and upon receiving the photo they sent out a replacement. Kudos to their customer support.

I've enjoyed using it. Showed me that I had a couple of clubs whose average distances were close to identical, for example. One problem is that I've switched around a few clubs, and I've screwed up by not moving the sensors around appropriately. So on a number of occasions I've just used it for GPS and it's been fine.

Got to use the Shot Scope Yesterday. There is a definitely a learning curve LOL... I thought being a snobby bay area techie I would get this like it was nothing, but I caught myself walking off the green before I realized I forgot to pin collect lol. Then I realized I didn't know what to do if I needed to hit a provisional/or hit one OB lol (which you can edit after the round anyways).

You definitely need to do some post round edits. On par3s it tagged my driver for some reason so had to change that. But once you figure how to edit on the mobile or desktop/browser. It's very easy

but after one round man... man the data is interesting to look at! I can't wait to play more!

The leaderboard function is pretty fun to see where you rank globally, but some of those long drives are definitely not right LOL

Heads up on the par 3 driver issue...it's a mapping issue for that course and you need to contact Shot Scope to fix it. I had this issue on my home course...it would always say I hit driver so I finally contacted support and they fixed it quickly and said it was a mapping issue.

I'm actually planning to sell mine soon. Battery life is an issue for me because I play 36 holes every other Monday on my day off and if those rounds go over 7 or 7.5 hours it usually doesn't last.

Ya I found the battery life to be not that useful for anyone who plays more than 18. after 18 I synced to my phone right after the round and that killed the battery to 30%.

Charging takes really long as well. Abnormally long to be honest. My Garmin s60 lasted forever but I swear it could get a full charge in an hour or so.... Shot Scope feels like 4+ hours

Yes, the charging time makes no sense at all. And I don't understand how they can't get more battery life out of that giant watch. I have a Garmin Vivoactive HR watch and use it for golf GPS and it also tracks heart rate and steps and it would probably make it through 72 hours in a day and it's quite a bit smaller. They've definitely got some work to do there.

But I realize most golfers don't play 36 often at all...but battery life needs to be more of a focus for Shot Scope.

FFS how long does it take to update the FW on this damn thing? Taking forever. When things like this take this long (about 15 min so far) it makes me think its a buggy process.

edit - going on about 45 min or so now and its STILL updating. So it has me thinking its a buggy process where the update is actually done but the desktop app never updates to tell you its finished. Because I'm only gonna let it go on so long and then I'm gonna pull the plug.

edit part deux - never did update the FW. It is still stuck on V1.4.5. I emailed their support and will see what kind of answer I get back.

I had a similar issue with last firmware update. The first time I tried, it went into neverland and did not update. The next time I synced I received a message a new firmware was available. Chose to update and it updated successfully in a few minutes.

Yeah their support got back to me quickly with some tips that I'll try later since I'm out of pocket on biz travel this week. I'm sure we'll get it figured out and their prompt response is reassuring.

So Christmas was good to me. I got a V2. Already having issues (submitted to CS), but thought I would query you folks with more time with the product.

Can the time format be changed? It's always 24 hour right now.

Can the time zone be changed? Mine seems to be set to GMT (guess).

Is there a soft switch to turn auto Pin Collect on? 1st round Pin Collect never came on automatically when I walked on to any green.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

1: Time is shown in 24hr format. I assume it would need a firmware update for 12hr format

2: Picks up local timezone for GPS

3: If you press the middle button a couple of times it will cycle to Pin Collect

Also check you have the latest firmware.

I can accommodate 24 hr format. Just odd that it isn't a changeable setting. It picked up local time today. Last Friday it was GMT. Not sure what that is all about. I thought it would auto transition to Pin Collect, but cargo8 indicates that it won't in Pro mode (which is what I use). Switching to Pin Collect wasn't hard. I just didn't expect to need to. Thanks for the response.

Bumping this thread - I'm curious if ya'll have specific tips or want to share how you parse through your stats to gain actionable insights for your game.

I'm a relative newbie with the ShotScope, but I've used it so far to figure out the following

- Dialing in distances

- Where I need practice based on success % relative between Driver, Approach, etc. and comparing to my handicap leaderboard

- Learning certain clubs have specific left/right miss behavior (not super easy to surface through their UI)

- Club selection for approach shots based on average approach distance remaining (and more practice)

- What distance putting I should work on

The stat section that is most overwhelming is the Approach shot data because it's basically all your non-tee shots. How are you guys parsing this to figure out what to work on / which irons need work?
