2018 Titleist AVX Golf Balls

Early adopter rush is over. Our Pro and local stores are sitting on a lot of yellow AVXs..one shop has sold a dozen out of 20 allocated. Yikes. Great ball, wrong price point.
funny this happened in the test markets too.

My guess is Titleist knew this would eventually happen but took the extra profit margin up front.

Most likely we will see a price correction to $39.99 or an eventual restructure of their premium line up .

With the yellow ProV and V1X on their way , that will also likely hurt the AVX sales numbers.

The AVX should be Titleist’s “Project a”

I wonder if it's the "yellow" ?

Just last week I saw the manager of my local store and asked him how the AVX was doing being it's been in the general population now for about 7 or 8 months. He responded with "Very well actually", almost as if he was a little surprised.

I've tried both the yellow and the white and I prefer the white. Never really liked a yellow ball. Having said that, for some reason, the 2 years or so I played the Chrome Soft, I played the yellow with the black panels. Something about the mixed in black made the yellow ball perfectly acceptable to me.

But now, with the AVX, I definitely prefer it in white. :dntknw:

I play both the white and yellow. Don't see a difference other than preference on courses with a lot of leaves.

Love the ball and don't mind paying the premium. If a price reduction does happen, it would just be a bonus for me.

I've enjoyed the AVX all summer....just tried a Q star Tour.....NEW BALL!

Try the Wilson Duo Urethane. Won't be disappointed.

I have, I was.....sadly....got 2 dozen at a great price.... AVX vs QST shootout!

I am doing the same, playing AVX, but the 2nd gen Qstar Tour is supposed to be a good ball

Tried Gen 2 QST....Gen 1 QST felt and performed better for me.....went to edwin watts and grabbed last 5 dz for 20 each....I'm committed!

I played a round with an AVX ball and really liked it. I have been a PROV1X guy since it's release but thought the AVX was great. I felt it was longer off the tee and equal to the X with iron shots and around the green. It has been pretty damp here and all the courses are pretty soft right now so hard to get a true assessment. I will have to give the AVX another try on a hard , dry, fast course.

I am not switching from the X until I get more play with the AVX but my initial impression was very positive.

I switched from the V1 X to the AVX and have really enjoyed the new ball. A few of my buddies are dabbling now too. It seems to spin less for me in all applications. The best part though is I can play more than one round with it without tearing the cover off. Haven’t tried a yellow one yet but may over the winter here in Colorado.

I found an AVX a week ago and am jonesing to give it a solid try. I'm a natural low spinning player but, why not stretch the limit?

I’m confused because there are other low spinning balls that spin less. Can’t say I grasp the concept of a premium priced urethane cover ball playing more like a soft surlyn ball. Tbh I don’t think it plays that way but it plays like other balls in the same category with a bit less spin. I don’t see distance or trajectory differences. I think people just try to make it something it’s not.

So then play the cheaper ball that spins less. Or more. No worries. Choices are a good thing.

You can't grasp the concept of a premium pried ball that spins less.

You don't see any difference in distance or trajectory.

So choose something else. Plenty of choices for you.

I really like the AVX because the feel, cuts through wind, stays in the zip code on mis hits, spins enough, and is a top end ball that comes in yellow for fall golf and to prevent people from playing my f ing ball when i hit it on the wrong fairway (I do that on purpose for approach shots, obviously).

I play on a short course for league during the summer. It surprising how many people pick up others balls. So frustrating.

For some strange reason, BiggErn has a personal vendetta against the AVX.

Lol. I don’t have any vendetta I just realize it’s not some sort of unicorn ball. If someone plays it then it’s because they like Titleist instead of other balls in the same performance category. Supposedly a “performance” ball but actually spins the least out of all balls in the same category. Some tout the low spin as the performance they look for but there’s a ton of others that spin much less. Some tout the supposed lower trajectory but I don’t know of any players with an above 0 handicap that can consistently hit a ball with a consistent trajectory. Not sure why some love a urethane ball that plays with none of the performance characteristics of a urethane ball. It’s like paying $50 for Bridgestone e6.

I wouldn't pay $50 for Bridgestone e6 balls but I will happily pay it for a dozen AVX :)

Yeah I agree. I think people love their brand so if it fits their game better than that brands other offerings it must be something special.

I know a guy who tried a Gran Z and loved it (he’s a Titleist guy). He went to the store to find it and they said the closest US version is the AVX.

So a non urethane ball similar to the E6 Soft is compared to the AVX . But if you like Titleist on your ball you double for the logo.

The Gran Z has a different number of dimples, a different dimple pattern and a surlyn cover compared to the urethane cover the AVX has. The only relevant comparison would be is that they are both 3 piece balls. The Gran Z is targeted to slow swing speeds (75-85 with driver).

The e6 soft is a dog. Way over rated on some of the positive comments here. Feels like hitting a plastic ball. The yellow is bright, the only positive.

I know , my point was the guy likes the AVX now even though they are pretty much a different ball. In his mind however they are very similar.

As long as it says Titleist he is a happy camper I guess.

Based on your post the golf shop your friend went to is clueless about the differences between the AVX and the Gran Z. They gave your friend bad information. Not surprising.

Played a ton with the AVX now. Still love it. Best all around ball I have ever played.

Planning a Florida trip in January I think I will give a dozen a few rounds, I don’t normally play a ball for its distance but I like what people are saying about this one.
