Tiger winning 2 or 3 tournaments a year would be amazing and if he won a major that would be incredible. Do not forget he is a middle aged man with a fused back if he can do this that would be great for golf .

I think I agree with that. I always thought if he could get healthy, he would be very competitive. But thought the ‘young guns’ may be better or as good. I now think - if healthy and playing his highest current potential - not too many can beat T dub. If he can stay healthy, he can definitely win a major and potentially return to #1. He looked very strong end of 2018 season.

I still think that Tiger's game is still not quite there yet and there is room for improvement. Hopefully he keeps improving, then it will get really interesting.

If he is back (healthy and competitive) I actually think he will create a new surge in ratings and guys picking up the game again. I think a comeback will just make people intrigued to watch, and more watchers may mean more players. Just like 20 years ago, he would be an anomaly again. This time, however, it would be because he had such a long and improbable road to return.

In regards to his return.. i was watching the college finals @ east lake and many of the youngster were talking about Tigers win there... He is being introduced to a whole new generation of kids who never had a chance to experience his greatness.. His legacy will be epic.

Where did I say pro golf is dead? It simply has a place - like a lot of other sports - further down the pecking order when vying for people's attention. And Tiger absolutely props it up when he's playing and no other golfer or collection of golfers is doing that, regardless of 'development'.

No Tiger, its a niche sport. With Tiger, still a niche sport.

It is a tiny business compared to the NHL, much less the NFL. The NHL pays out $2B+ in salaries per year. Total PGA Tour purse is maybe a quarter of that.

Show me an NFL or NHL player on this list. Also be my guest to search out other lists. Duffer987 is 100% correct. Tiger brought (and still brings) the game to an altitude that it's never been able to achieve without him. My wife can't stand golf but if I'm not home and he's playing, she's watching and texting me updates.

 

Every sport regardless of size and payouts needs a star athlete that transcends the sport itself and that's what Tiger did and still does.

 

And for the record, JS, JT, DJ and the rest of them are NOT stars. They are exceptional golfers good enough to play on tour and win but they are not stars. Tiger is a star. Federer is a star. Ronaldo is a star. Why? Because they transcend, exceed expectations and make the exceptional look mediocre. They remind us that the impossible IS possible and that's what strikes a chord with everyone regardless if they're a fan of the sport or not.

 

P.S. Don't be afraid to look up the 10 most 'popular' sports in the world. Let me know where ice hockey and American football sits on the list. Surely a niche sport like golf couldn't possibly make such a list, could it?
