Golf Courses in Wisconsin

^^^which was my point! Did my comments come off as negative? Mammoth is awesome for all handicap level. But don't treat it as something that's going to test your aerial game with risk/reward options. It's a laid back golf weekend to get away from the noises and not worry about a score.

No worries Jerebear; not your comments I was referring to. Fun to debate golf architecture isn't it?? Also, I have seen some past comments about the links course at Lawsonia. On my trip which included Whistling, Erin, Blackwolf, and the Sand Valley courses, I found Lawsonia to be the surprise of the trip! So much so that my dad and I decided to jump out for another loop right after our initial round!

I live a few minutes from Lawsonia. If any of you are coming to play, you have to check out Mascoutin. Its only about 10 minutes from Lawsonia, has 27 holes and is better maintained, in fact its darn near perfect every day. Its short but more difficult. I think its one of the biggest hidden gems in the state and does not get much play at all.

I'll echo your comments. Last summer, I came up from Chicago to play the Links. Was looking to pick-up another round close-by to Lawsonia and Mascoutin looked decent. It far exceeded my expectations. Played the white/blue combo. The white 9 was a very solid traditional parkland layout and the newer blue 9 was just outstanding. And, the day I played, both the conditions of the greens and bunkers were significantly better at Mascoutin than at the famed Links.

Mascoutin is fun to play....my buddy and I did the Links in the a.m. and headed over to Mascoutin and did the blue then red (they were going white/red for 18 that day). I had never played the blue so I asked to do the blue 9 and really enjoyed it. In fact would have been fine looping twice on the blue. Condition is fantastic as you stated. Links is just a way better course, not even in the same category IMO, but always enjoy Mascoutin and really appreciate the way it's maintained so well.

Always been a big fan of the Scoot as we call it. But, ever since I became a member at Lawsonia I stopped playing it since I already paid in advance for Lawsonia for the summer. The white and red 9's are nothing special, but they are nice. The blue is lots of fun. Love the Blue 9. For some reason I find it really easy too. Always score well on blue, but struggle on red/white with the narrow tree lined fairways.

The staff is really nice, love the range and practice area for warming up. And of course, love the grilled brats on the patio after the round.

I would not say it is better maintained than Lawsonia. It's in great shape no doubt, but it doesn't match the playability of the Links.

Now if you really want to play the toughest course in the area go check out Tuscumbia. Tiny greens and thick pines on each side of the narrow fairways.
