What golf trips do you have coming up?

I also don't get why people say if copperhead doesn't have a tournament it wouldn't be that great. It's literally like baby augusta during tournament conditions. it's like the same folks who say east lake is boring!

copperhead is literally the best course on the florida swing; better than bay hill, pga national, and yes tpc sawgrass!

Take that back or I'm rescinding your invite!

lol, you know it's true! i'll be in bayhill end of december with another member; hopefully they're done fixing things up by then.

Message me when you get out there, I'll be around I'm sure.

I'll be in Tampa area on the weekend of Dec 15th for a friends housewarming in St Pete...may hit up Copperhead and see if this 'claim' is true

will do. conditions at copperhead usually gets good in january/february; i was just over there on friday and it's still a touch rough from the summer. give it another month or so to let the rough grow in and it's like baby augusta in florida.

Wow. Better than Sawgrass? It isn't even better than Dye Valley. I'll give you bay hill though. This is a completely subjective argument, that probably isn't appropriate for this forum. But I didn't realize you were a local, as an out of towner that has played many courses down there, i would rather play World Woods either course than copperhead if I were visiting. Just my opinion. Your throwing out things like baby augusta and saying it is better than Sawgrass makes me think this wouldn't be an argument worth having anyway. Not that rankings mean much and they are definitely not the end all be all but Copperhead is behind Pine Barrens and the streamsong courses in literally every list. :dntknw:

Either way, I am super jealous of your trip!

yes better than tpc sawgrass; i haven't played sawgrass since the renovation and heard good things; but sawgrass is really really over-rated. it's on a boring piece of land with an island green and is over-inflated due to the pga wanting to make it into a "major" like tournament.

i have NO issue claiming streamsong is better than copperhead. I think it's the best public course in florida.. even tour players call copperhead baby augusta due to the elevation and similarities of how it looks. i been to augusta. it's eerily similar in the elevation and "looks". but we were comparing world woods and copperhead. and i'll pick copperhead 10/10 times over world woods. world woods is value. key word is value. in the brooksville area, world woods would take the backseat to southern hills plantation. it's really not even close.

I leave Friday for a week in Pinehurst. Scheduled PH #1 on Saturday with friends who are members, and Talamore on Sunday. Will play MidSouth and Mid Pines, maybe another at Pinehurst, and we'll work from there.

I’m headed there tmrw! We’re doing 2,4,8 at the resort and then Tobacco Road and Dormie. Just hoping the weather holds up!

Love Tobacco Road and Dormie. I played one of my best rounds at TR and it’s such a tough course.

Is this your annual Thanksgiving trip to Pinehurst I take it. Low crowds and you keep coming back.

It is, we bought a condo at Talamore 10 years ago, and we spend every Thanksgiving there. The weekend before Thanksgiving is usually pretty busy, The Golfweek Am Tour has been at Talamore and MidSouth that weekend, but by Monday its a ghost town. Not just that, but golf rates go down on Monday, MidPines is only $85 (its $175 today)

Sounds amazing. Sedona is one of my favorite places in the country, absolutely beautiful. If you golf there 7 canyons is awesome. I would add both we-ko-pa courses to your list. Best public courses in Arizona.

Going to Scottsdale in November:

Talking Stick

Grayhawk

We Ko Pa

Troon Monument

TPC Stadium

Quintero

Ak Chin Southern Dunes

Mountain Shadow

and maybe Raven, Wigwam Gold, Wickenburg or Camelback,

You've probably come and gone by now but this is a fantastic schedule. I really wouldn't change a thing. I rock a Mountain Shadow's towel on my bag and consider it my home course with Talking Stick. Definitely an iconic little par 3 and a perfect way to get in extra golf in Scottsdale.

Would put Gold Canyon/Dinosaur Mountain (ridiculous names) on the list for future travels, or for anyone who can't get on at Quintero. Unbeatable desert/mountain views. If you had to drop one from the list I'de drop Grayhawk, especially after TPC.

My Scottsdale take:

Eagle Mountain is a poor man's Troon. Forgiving design so some might consider it "easy" but it is really enjoyable and a very scenic course.

Raven is excellent and similar quality to Grayhawk IMHO.

I stay away from Camelback because of their attitudes and horrible service. The staff here act like you're an uninvited guest at Augusta. The Ambiente course is original for this area because it is a links-style course, and gets good reviews, but if you're coming here you may as well play desert golf.

Talking Stick (North course) really may be one of the best public courses in Scottsdale with the C&C design. It doesn't overwhelm the emotions with views like Troon, but it grows on you over time in the way great courses do. The South is also fun to play but doesn't have the stand-out holes that the North has.

Finally, We-Ko-Pa (both courses) are probably the best in the state for overall design quality, playability, and iconic desert scenery. Definitely worth the time to play both Cholla and Saguaro.

Had a Bandon golf trip mid Feb, but I have to cancel due to a upcoming carpal tunnel surgery. I will find an opening and drive over for the day before surgery. Have vacation time for Bethpage Black, so I am looking for a NY'er to play with and get a time.

Headed to Golfwork'sGol School in id May so I will get a round in at Virtues.

AZ golf may be my favorite golf in the country. Something about the contrast between the course and desert really is amazing. Nice pics!

I won't say it's my favorite although I like it (especially in the Winter.), but it is probably the prettiest and most photogenic.

Nice choices. Consider True Blue as one of your additional rounds. It's great course across the street from Caledonia.

Great photos! Thanks for showing them.

I looked at True Blue and depending on my round at Caledonia, may try and double up that day. May be tough with the sun setting so early this time of year. We are staying at the Hilton resort and they have 10-15 courses where you pay the cart fee only. Legends seem like the best courses on the list so I will probably see if I can get on there. If they give me a choice, which course should I aim for?

If you are going to play at the Legends complex I'd suggest Heathland or Moorland. Heathland is an early Tom Doak course. It's pretty forgiving but has some fun holes . Moorland is PB Dye Course and is a more difficult course and has some memorable large scale features.

Can I recommend you squeeze in Dooks even for a twilight round - a brilliant alternative for your trip.

  • 2 weeks later...

Going with my family to Campbeltown Scotland Dec 24 - Jan 4.

Staying right across from the 18th green at Machrahanish.

Cannot wait!

Love the Ugadale! Of course that's across from the first tee so that may not be where you're staying... Imagine the weather is a bit shaky that time of year though :). Still, love Machrihanish but I'll be in Cabo 12/29-1/5 where it is warm because I'm a weather wimp!

We are staying in the Sheiling which is the self catering house across from the 18th green. Nice to have a house when u have the wife and kids w you for that much time.

Definitely some rain but temps in the 40s or low 50s is a dream coming from Detroit in Dec/Jan!

Definitely better weather in Cabo! Haha.

My family and I just can't get enough of Campbeltown.

Going to MB this weekend for my annual December trip. Looks like we'll get 2 decent days, one questionable, and one where we will test our fortitude.

Heading there this weekend as well. Rounds Sunday and Monday look like they could be rough.
