PX 5.5 to Modus 3 105 Reg

Hi,

 

Been advised by TM and Cally fitters to order my next set of irons with Modus 105 in R flex...My dispersion is very good and both suggested I would get a better flight and a bit more distance. Has anyone experience of the 105 Nippon?

I've been playing the Modus 3 Tour 105 in X for the past two seasons. They're consistent performers and they feel great. The only gripe that I have is that the light weight makes it easier for me to get wonky with my swing due to the light weight. Prior to the Tour 105, I had played Project X 6.0, KBS Tour V, KBS Tour, and KBS C-Taper. All were heavier than the Tour 105 and were easier for me to keep from getting wild on the swing. As for flex, I would assume that the Tour 105 in stiff would be closer in flex to a PX 5.5. If after a fitting, however, I would trust the fitter assuming it's a reputable one.

Ive played px 5.5 and Modus 105 in Stiff and X. I would say 5.5 plays closer to 105x maybe soft stepped. Weight is more alike too. I can game px5.5 and 105x but 105s is a bit soft (for me).

Px plays pretty stout.....played 105 modus and PX and agree that a 5.5 would be closer to X...maybe SS but not a reg that for sure.....maybe 5.5 was too much 4 you thos and 105 r is better idk

I'm bouncing between my Z765 w/ modus 105 stiff and Rogue Pro's PX LZ 5.5 and they feel very similar in flex.

I suspect the Modus in R may be quite a bit softer than a standard PX in 5.5.

BTW, I hate the standard PX feel, and the hurt my wrist and shoulder when I played them. No such issues with the LZ or the Nippons

Based on the information below, I would suggest the Modus 105 S please very similar to DG 105 S300 however it feels much softer due to the heat treatment it gets and slightly softer tip. The PX 5.5 is more firm throughout the shaft. In this case Modus 105 S soft stepped could be the best solution.

What are the differences in performance characteristics between the Project X and Dynamic Gold shafts?

 

Project X will launch slightly higher (0.5°) and with slightly less spin (200 rpm) than Dynamic Gold due to its slightly softer tip section and firmer mid-section. The firmer mid-section of Project X will give the player a slightly stiffer feel compared to Dynamic Gold. Both shafts are designed for the better player or stronger swinger seeking shot control with their irons and a lower, penetrating ball flight. Players with quicker tempos may prefer the heavier weight of Dynamic Gold.

 

We have seen several Tour players switch back and forth between the two models (Davis Love III & Camilo Villegas are two that come to mind). At The Players Championship this year, there were 66 sets of Dynamic Gold in play and 23 sets of Project X.

 

 

 

 

...if a player is currently playing Dynamic Gold S300 and wanted to try Project X, we would suggest that he start with the 5.5 as it would be the closest comparison to S300 (and vice versa).
