Who else is a big fan of Bryson dechambeau?

Why do you cringe? He's not wrong, he has a mechanical engineering degree and apparently his scientific approach to the game is working, proven by his Top 5 in the world ranking.

(disclaimer - have a ME degree as well, so Shambo speaks my language. And Cobra and Puma make the best gear.)

Bryson didn’t major in ME and doesn’t have a degree. He dropped out before his senior year.

bought out by private equity.

capitalization, grammar and reasoning slashed as a cost reduction.

.”I would say just on a general basis that it’s something that I’ve derived in my brain…It’s like I have this black space and it’s just of my hands and arms and body and I see it and I just take it back and have this neurological sensation or input that I have for applying force to the club. There is a track to it. I see it and in that vision. Some people look and envision shots, do all that, but I just create it in my brain.”

I am starting to foresee a Bert Yancy ending for Bryson, which of course is not very good.

He doesn’t just read greens, for instance. That would be insufficiently intellectual.

“Well, I’ve tried about almost a dozen things to make the [putting] line look right over the past year,” he said during the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open here this week. “Because eyes are muscles, they change. Just like you feel good with your arms one day and feel bad with your arms the next day. Or your legs, or whatever it is.

“It’s just kind of the way it is. Your eyes are muscles, and they change and adapt every single day in different lighting, so you just got to find out what works for you that week.”

I wouldn't say I'm a big fan, but I do like him because he's his own person. It's got to be tough being in the position these youngsters are in with such high pressure on them.

But they're so clever and witty...

:russian_roulette:

Pretty sure I was the first person to say that. We can pull up the old post if needed. I want credit.

But now I've stopped saying it because it's no longer unique.

I've never disliked DeShamps btw. I like him and I think it takes a lot of courage to do things unashamedly different.

If he keeps it up we may end up just calling him DeChamp.

Edit: here it is. Never heard it prior to posting this. You can crown me king of the idiots :busted2: :

Lol. I agree that was the original nickname and it made me laugh. Then everyone thought they'd try their hand at it. Amateur hour.

Kinda like when Weezer covered "Africa." First time, awesome. 3x an hour on the local alt rock channel? :russian_roulette:

This guy can flat out play and definitely marches to the beat of his own drummer. I am a huge fan of his game and his philosophy on the game but his personality is the worst I’ve ever seen from any PGA golfer for the 40 years I’ve been following the game. I was trying to think of a second worst but I can’t and the only ones who measure up to him are a few amateurs I’ve played with over the years.

I am fine with DeChambeau, just as I like watching nearly anyone with world-class talent.

I don't like the coverage of him though. The whole mad scientist / physics major is overblown and inaccurate at best. To start, I do not believe he obtained his degree, but even if he did, he knows about as much physics with an undergraduate degree as I knew economics when I graduated way back when. I learned very quickly that in order to do economics as a profession, far more schooling was in order, so I chose a different career, just like Bryson did :-).

I like his swing, seems to get perfectly on plane quite consistently and a nice rhythm to it. Putting looks a bit awkward but is really working for him at the minute and at least he's given up the side saddle experiment.

He didn't "give it up." The USGA ruled the putter he was using non-conforming. That's what ended the experiment.

Bryson isn't the first pro to experiment with side-saddle putting. But he's the first in a long time to actually employ it.

Golf is a very conservative game and Bryson is pushing its boundaries. That's why you read so many negative comments about the guy, despite the fact that he's the hottest guy on Tour.

He seems like a complete phony to me.

Case in point the Ryder Cup. Refusing to give Noren a two footer, then hamming up it with the crowd on the next tee like he's funny and the whole match is a joke. Two seconds later he's in his typical whining/disbelief after his shot doesn't work out.

He also can take ages to decide what to do, which is never fun to watch.
