How do I get DG Tour Issue Shafts in new Mizuno irons?

It's been 3 years or so since Mizuno last offered the TI versions of DG shafts. Ever since they went to the full "no upcharge" shaft list, the DG TI shafts have not been offered from them.

Tighter weight tolerances, and a tour issue shaft label (which obviously is the most important thing).

I would have thought 21st century quality control would mean tight enough preferences. When TT took over Precision they found hundreds of rejected shafts that their own QC thought fine. If Mizuno don't offer them I imagine that it is because demand is so low. I would demo the normal DG before trying to get the Tour Issued.

In all honesty it may just be for the cooler label LOL, but nah I play standard dg in ALL of my irons sets (or AMT), really doesn’t make a difference. In my wedges tho I much prefer s400 your Issue, mainly because it’s hard to find that weight without it being TI

I would demo the normal DG before trying to get the Tour Issued.

 

The demo won't tell you anything unless you are demoing the actual set of clubs that you are potentially going to take home with you that day. The whole point of Tour Issue is that they are sorted with very high weight tolerances to ensure that the weights are as accurate as possible in the specific set that you order by paying someone essentially to double check and sort the weights. The theory is that if you order non-Tour-Issue there is a *chance* that some of the shafts will be farther off in weight in you would prefer, so if that matters to you then you can order Tour Issue and rest easy. Either way, you can't know whether a specific set of non-Tour-Issue irons will be "as good" (i.e. close enough in weight) as a Tour Issue set unless you try that specific set yourself, given that the Tour Issue sets are the exact same shafts but sorted with tighter weight tolerances.

From a playability perspective, nobody can tell the difference....but that sticker looks better.

I've got normal S400s in my OG Nike Blades, and the Tour Issue model in my VR Pros. I'd say the Tour Issues feel more consistent throughout the set, whereas a couple in the OGs felt softer than the rest. It's probably a placebo, but as I didn't pay any extra for the TI model, I don't really care :)

 

I would pay the extra for them next time round, but only as I replace my irons every 10 years or so, so the extra £10 per iron is neither here nor there.

I use tour issue shafts, tour issue heads, tour issue grips, and the all-important tour issue epoxy. Of course the tour issue epoxy is administered strictly in tour issue quantities.

 

Don’t even get me started on tour issue grip tape...
