Kbs tour 120 vs dd 120 vs modus 130

Currently play dg pro s300 in my epons. They work pretty well. Nothing really beat the combo. Dg pro aren't made anymore.

I'm thinking about a backup combo set of jpx 919 or srixon z85. Debating on kbs tour 120, dg120 s300 or modus 130 that srixon offers at an upcharge. I like a higher flight. Dispersion is the most important aspect.

So would just to get thoughts on the srixon z85 vs 919 and the kbs vs dg 120 vs modus 130. My 6 iron swing speed is around 86. Epon 705 6 iron is 26* and goes 170-180.

What is a “backup set”?

Why would you ever have more than one set of golf clubs to swap between?

Any “backup set” should be 100% identical to your “playing set”. Keep your “main set” at your golf club and one at your home, or in your trunk, or at a vacation house or anyplace else where you might need a second set of clubs, but they should be exactly the same.

I just can’t fathom how anyone would expect to improve or play their best golf when switching between different clubs with different shafts on any kind of regular basis. Completely illogical. No good player that’s serious about their game does this.

I mean no insult. It’s just a bad idea. Consistency is paramount in golf. Why make it harder by randomly switching equipment?

It's the golfwrx way?

I think of think as long as the heads and shafts are close it doesnt matter that much.

But thanks for you input.

A Golfwrx "backup" bag is when you've run out of excuses to keep buying clubs, so you start an entirely separate bag to keep the dopamine fix coming. An even more high-IQ rationalization is to start a "minimalist" approach and build an entirely separate Sunday bag.

But of the shafts you listed, KBS Tour will have a more butt-mid stiffness type feel and maybe more launch. Modus 130 is really butt-mid stiff and might launch even higher still. Has great feel.

I’ve played S300 for over a decade and just switched to KBS Tour 120. They’re lighter, easier to launch, and are incredibly smooth. I was tired of really having to work to get the most out of the S300. The KBS is just so much easier to swing and launch.

Great feedback

Sure. I do too... I have a set of PXG'S I'm testing right now and I'm sure ill try the P760's at some point.

What I mean is, I only truly PLAY one set. I don't consider any other set im testing a "back up set". Whatever I play I commit to for the long haul until something really extraordinary comes along to challenge its position in the bag. Ive tested 7 sets in 30 months since Ive had the Hogans but nothing has been better. Before I had the Hogans I wore out 3 sets of exactly the same Mizunos using exactly the same grips and the same shafts over a period of 23 years. I never changed until something demonstrably better came along.

Im a gear head like everyone else around here. I just accept that I'm going to try 2 or 3 sets of irons every season at the range a half dozen times each and then sell them on to somone else. I look at all these sets like a long term demo program, not a "backup set".

I've said it on many threads, but I firmly believe people would see greater improvement and consistency if they would just 100% commit to one set for a number of years at a time.

This is your opinion which you're entitled to. Most golfers won't see a big difference between setups if they're close. Some won't see it if they're miles apart. Unless we're talking different overall weight, length, etc.

Whether they are test sets or back up sets. You only play 1 set at a time. & the body can override what you could be swinging at this very moment.

I'm a big advocate of consistency coming from feel. And if you were content with your set make up giving you such great consistency, then why "test" 7 different sets?

Wouldn't it be more beneficial to go get fit again or grab a lesson for better consistency? At what point do we start looking at the indian here?

Ok, I really dont want to take my $3k set of epons to Florida in chances they would get lost or stolen.

Well then you obviously have no plans on being a consistent golfer or improving in any manner! Lol
