I’m sure he’ll be fine. They’re an established brand. It’s hardly the same as Nick Price commuting career suicide by signing with Atrigon after dominating with Ram.

The Tour World irons and wedges out perform anything TM currently makes. If he also did it for money, it's a win-win.

Has anyone thought that maybe TM is making room for another player who moves the needle to come in??? No renewal for Sergio last year and Rose this year has made a lot of space, looks to me like they are making a play for a well known player.... Watch this space!!

They're probably making more room for Tiger.

Hopefully it's not another Sergio. I saw the dude on the back of a milk carton the other day. Nobody has seen him since April 2017.

UMMMM, not that I'm a Sergio fan, but did you not watch the Ryder Cup? He also won a tournament 2 weeks ago.

It's a joke. Nobody will dispute the man had a terrible year coming off a Master's victory. Yes he has started to turn it around the last month or so, but he was something like 128th in FedEx points for the year. My point was, for these guys who've played the same brand for 15+ years, a transition can be difficult and frustrating. A very risky move when finally getting to #1.

Let's not forget that the man also has a new born child, and didn't play the same schedule as in years past. The transition can be difficult argument is kind of shot in the foot because he won his first event of the year with the Cally clubs. I think the win at Augusta, coupled with the great things in his personal life, meant that he just didn't have the same focus as he did in past years. He barely played enough for the transition to even be an issue.

He won in Spain just a couple of weeks ago. He's had a bad year, but he turned up at the Ryder Cup too.

Was going to post the same.

Hope it doesn't end up similar to when Corey Pavin switched to PRGR irons years ago and his game all but disappeared. Will be interested to see what he ends up playing though.

The same pavin who played the Cleveland VAS ? Can't really blame the irons now can he ?

I thought this was reported a couple months ago in tour talk ? Honma is a step up in quality. Not down.

Even if the quality angle was true...I don't think it is at his level...not like we are going to see them in Dick's anytime soon. At least it is not pxg.

If Matt Kuchar is the nicest American on the PGA Tour, Justin Rose is his European counterpart. A class act all the way, a prodigy who faced adversity and fought through it to twice be ranked No. 1 in the world. He’s a great story and I am a fan. The other players love him because he’s the real deal.

Honma doesn't need a tour van. There are independent vans that service multiple companies that don't need a full blown van out there.

Does honma have a presence on tour at all (tour van, not other players)? What happens if rosey has an equipment malfunction and needs a new 3wood for Saturday morning? Will he carry a backup to every event?

Player's have relationship with companies even though they aren't contracted players eg. Koepka, Casey etc. with Mizuno. We've seen pics on here of their equipment set aside and labelled for collection in the Mizuno van. Rose will supposedly still use TM woods, wedges and ball - I'm certain he'll still be welcome in the van. Regardless as noted in another post above there are other options for players.

Blades is blades. He’s not as pretentious as Tiger or Rory. Bet you don’t even notice a thing aside from the logo on his bag

Yes but surely Honma will want the logo as prominent as possible on as many clubs in his bag as relates to his contract. If you look at the "Tour World" (blades and CBs) collection available in Honma Japan the logo is noticeable. They will want brand visibility for the investment.

Johnny Miller once mentioned that after his huge success in the early-mid 70's when he could dial irons in to 1/2 yard, he switched irons for a big payday and he was never the same player again. Some could say the yips were the primary cause but it his iron play certainly could have been the catalyst.

^^ I'm sure Rose did his due diligence before the switch. With all the analytics and tools like TrackMan etc. I don't think a club switch in 2018 is comparable to a switch in the early-mid 70s.

Look at Nike Golf moving out of the hardware market and quite abruptly too, I don't think it has negatively effected any of those players. Fleetwood is still playing the irons and Koepka has retained his 3 iron but I think all the other high profile players ditched all the clubs.
