Driver vs Driver 2

Ouch - Tim Clark said Jimmy's firmness in not altering his driver was the reason he didn't move on

Which is a nice way to say he's a bit too snarky to deal with. Was glad to see he was next to go.

I mean how many hints can testers give you on the ugly looks before you get it. ? Different just to be different is usually stupid.

It looked like Burner Superfast with weights on the bottom and a weird crown. Had the numbers worked out they might have kept the design, but honestly was the lesser of the 3. I think Jimmy had the most complete idea at the start of the show, but had too closed of a mindset to take any advice from anyone and was leap frogged because Wilson designers helped the other two work out the weak areas. Rozwell started as something completely different, he changed, and Tim will win.

Roswell will win just because of the weight track. The weight track hasn't been done yet. The cortex weight track has been done.

It was done in 2016 by TM. Good looking head though.

I think he's talking about the "Z" weight track.

Amazing these guys with 95 mph head speed producing drives of 260 plus.

I wondered the same thing. If it's a result of the thin air, did they mention that during the show? Otherwise, there will be LOTS of people who might buy one, then never get more than their normal 220/230 out of their 96mph sea level swings. They'll inundate social media about what a dog it is and it will sell like the Triton did...

Honestly, whoever wins, I'm trying the driver in store. Both the Cortex and Rozwell look good, sound good and perform well.

I've been playing TaylorMade drivers for the last 10 years, Rozwell and Cortex are actually the first drivers that would make me switch brand.

I'm with you.

How people here make snide remarks about Wilson or lesser companies, I find quite laughable.

'Dragon fly' technology, 'Speed foam', 'Twistface'..etc when TaylorMade or Ping come out with b.s. it's accepted.

Stop being brand whores and get open minded. Rozwell looks a very interesting piece of kit and I'd give it an honest try out with no preconceptions.

Considering w/s drivers have been garbage and their staff doesn’t even play them including the f5 that they had input on as well a lasts years dvd winner. There’s reason to knock them.

Their V6 irons are as good, if not better than anything out there

Admittedly they've lost the way with woods, but it was all that long ago that Harrington won Majors with the W/S Smooth driver and DB6.

The C300 driver is a great performer although a little tinny for my ears.

Their golf balls are excellent too. Credit to them as a company for looking to change for the better

To those who asked, I was referring to Cortex. The Z design I have not seen.

I think Rozwell is unique and Tim will be sought after by OEM’s. I really hope he keeps the rights to the tech in his crown if he doesn’t win.

I'd bet $1 that Wilson had them all sign agreements that Wilson owns all the rights to every element of the design and club...

So what do you do if you want to play a high fade with the Rozwell?

1. You spend the money you saved by buying a Wilson, get a lesson, and set that thing to neutral/high.

or

2. You take it back to the store and buy a better driver with more adjustability.

It was difficult to pronounce Ro8well.

I don't understand why Jimmy was so reluctant to change. It's obvious in this that if you don't have the pro's support, you aren't going to win and they told him from the get go what was wrong and why they wouldn't play.

The Z track is dumbfounding to me and I don't understand how it got this far. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's good. The best weight track I've seen/used is the '17 TM M1. You could get as low of spin as you want and plenty of fade or draw bias that didn't change the spin rate. The z track changes your spin rate in a weird way when you start going fade/draw bias. It just doesn't make sense from a fitting point of view.

I'd give the Rozwell a shot. In my opinion a much better shape and I'm looking to get weight near the face and toe.

I do like the look of the Cotex from the bottom and like the carbon up top but not a fan of the shape at all.

I’m sure of it too. Why would they developed something and risk it being sold to some other oem ? It’s like these singing comps. People are signed up before they win. You can’t win one of those and not be owned by the parent company for X number of years.

Because jimmy is the smartest guy on the show. Didn’t you hear him ?

That crack about sending a guy a link to a “ traditional Driver” on Amazon was enough to kick him off. What he failed to understand is that the market is full of new age gimmicky drivers. His idea to be space age is old hat. A traditional appearing /sounding Driver that has more tech is the home run. Not one that looks rediculous , sounds “ok” and performs “ so-so”. He tried to out smart the competition, he only outsmarted himself.

Tough spot to be in for pricing. Price too high and consumers won't have a reason to switch from their preferred consideration set of brands. Price too low and it becomes inferred as a less quality driver.

I think $299 (Like the new TEE) or $349 would be a nice sweet spot, but would require them setting ego aside, realizing they can't keep pace with the bigger names.

the latest instagram pic of the Cortex looks great! Seems like they have spent more effort on the Cortex as far as refining the looks. I like the 2 weights that setup the fade and draw bias, because most know what shape they are looking for. Higher and lower ball flight is really the only adjustment I would want to make quickly before a round. Just based on the sole pics I would have to say the Cortex wins.

But I guess it will come down to which one had best performance for the pro's. Because we all know that if it gets some play on tour it will help the sales. I think Streelman used the Triton in one tournament and that was it. If they can get a driver that stays in the bag for one or two of their guys, it will help!

How about instead of a Golf Channel infomercial, have the team that designed the Staff FG Tour V6 irons, design a Staff FG Tour V6 driver.

Make a forgiving model and then offer a lower spin, players model. Call it the Turbo V6 if they want. Call it the Duo if you want some instant recognition.

Wilson easily has the resources to design a driver that competes directly with Callaway and TM. They simply need to do it, and then loan one to every significant, unbiased reviewer.

...

Woods/Fairways:  Callaway with Mitsubishi shafts

Irons:  Srixon with Dynamic Gold shafts
