American Putter Company BEWARE!

Purchased an APC putter on August 28th 2018 for $819 (including shipping and tax). Never used the putter on the course and was only rolled on my indoor putting green. Being that they are a new company with some pretty solid designs it made sense to buy to try. Fast forward 7 weeks and to my surprise the stainless steel has began to tarnish significantly. This is the first stainless putter I’ve ever had do this. I get that sometimes things happen but what really has disappointed me was the lack of customer service out of a new putter company. 60 days and the putter is falling apart. I figured I would share this to help spare anyone else the trouble. Below you will find the putter order, pictures and APC lack of customer service to address the issue. Don’t make the same mistake I made. I’m curious to get others feelings on this matter too. Do you think my request of asking them to refinish the putter too much? Also sorry for poor grammar I have fat thumbs lol.

I heard it's difficult stainless steel with black oxide paint. Keep oil clean off rusty.

 

If polish wax on stainless steel is shiny. possible.

 

Gotta assume English is not your first language (at least from the written standpoint), but on top of that can't tell if you're just massively trolling the phuck out of everyone....

Anytime see the word 'Timascus' caution should be exercised. Quite inappropriately over used in quite a few industries to drive up price. Not saying that you did so, however use of certain cleaners like Flitz can remove protective coatings and lead to oxidation like you are seeing there, especially with cheaper ratio material used. 303 stainless tends to maintain torched finishes/looks much better than many material blends purported to be "better".

 

Stated all of above simply because the use of 'certified' (by whom?) stainless definitely shows a predisposition to be less than forthcoming on correct information or to appropriately warranty what was clearly an inferior product. You may want to mention in future correspondence with business that term Timascus is a patent protected process and you would like either an appropriate reimbursement of funds due to misrepresentation of material or proof that company followed appropriate steps to not infringe on patent by giving you source of material used to mill putter. I would be fairly certain that should get ball rolling. Keep us posted on if/when get further response and thanks for the heads up.

Vinegar and flour on copper, brass for 1 hrs then polishing clean. New shiny!

It definitely seems like the guy was salty about you considering his putter an investment and reselling it on eBay. Which is kind of ridiculous when you're selling $850 putters that look more like art than sporting equipment. What, exactly, does he expect?!

That is a plated putter from the look of it, yes? If so, it looks like the copper/brass/bronze plating is doing what those metals always do....oxidizing.

It is not plated. “Pure 303 stainless steel”

Also...if I spent $800 on a putter that this happened to, if be dragging their name through the dirt for years on this website.

 

If it was sold as stainless...this can't happen. Even a carbon putter doesn't just randomly wear like this from indoor use.

Yeah, the ebay post is irrelevant when it's a conversation about the product. If they had said "we have a 30 day warranty, this is outside of the 30 days...I'm sorry there is nothing we can do," it still would have been crappy but understandable on some level. The super sarcastic tone and references to trying to sell it are what's unnecessary.

The finish on the putter looks gold which would indicate that it went through some kind of heat treatment to get that color. If the putter was torched, what you are seeing is oxidation that can/does happen to stainless steel.

He's not saying you took the putter outside, he's saying you introduced some foreign element to the putter which caused it to oxidize. And because he's saying you caused the oxidation, he's refusing the refund.

The putter is crap. The company is crap. The message responses are crap. It’s all just disgusting.

 

That putter is plated with garbage. There is no way stainless reacts like that.

 

For what it’s worth....all the putters on the site look like cheesy junk too me. One head design in different finishes that they stick different necks on.

use some silicone or baby oil or just game the damn thing. Clubs can't stay perfect forever. Is it humid in your house?

 

1/2 off a follow up putter is a hell of a deal......and that's not good enough? BTW, its raw stainless, not studio stainless bead blasted.

 

Enjoy the fruits of the world - just don't get tangled up before you get there, it's not worth it.

Looks plated to me... It'd be helpful if we had some confirmation about what the finish is, or lack of finish.

Agreed...the finish on the putter appears to be plated or as Josh mentioned above...heat treated. I have a couple Bettinardi DASS (stainless steel) putters that are torched with a nice purple hue, but does have some slight oxidation.
