JPX Forged 919 and 919 Tour-Long Term Review??

Recommended Posts

Just finished quick round with the 919f. My God they feel good in the mid and short irons! The 4 and 5 iron not as much but still not bad. They are nice sticks for sure but not sure they will stay in the bag. The blade length is just a little long for me and I'm not sure I can get used to it. They are very forgiving on thin and toe shots. Also they do launch better than the 900f. I noticed the same thing as the above post with the low launch of the 900f. Bottom line is they are fantastic irons with sensational feel and very good forgiveness. But I'm a ho so there may be a set of absolute mint heads for sale here very soon.

This is the main reason I wasn't blown away by the forged. Too long a blade length. Nice clubs though that really perform. I ordered 6-P in the Tour and kept my 5 iron Fli-Hi. The Fli-His are $$.

I've decided to give them a little more time. I think I can get over the blade length if I continue to see come of the results I saw. I was really blown away with the feel of the forged. The set I have is not built to my specs yet. I meet to change the grips, install prosoft inserts and bend 1.5° flat. I'm going to do that and play a few rounds.

I’ve only played two rounds with my 919T, but I’ve had plenty of range sessions. In my mind, my old Nike VPCs are the best irons I’ve ever owned...but the 919Ts are catching up. Forgiveness and feel are better than the 900T and the MP18 SCs I had last year. I’ve hit the 919F and they are at least a club longer, but I like the overall look and feel of the 919T better.

I love my Tours, I have had them since launch and wow very confident with them.

I am working very hard on my swing the whole year and its getting there so that certainly is a factor.

I have probably played 10/12 rounds with them and some range time, right now most of my range time is half swings.

So for you guys gaming the forged or tours, are they as good as anything or better based on irons you have played in the last few years?

I am looking forward to trying them, it will take something special to knock out my forged tec blacks I will tell you that!

Forged/Tour combo set here and really for me they are just about perfect in every way. The key for anyone, is getting the right shaft fitted that lends to the ball flight, spin, and feel that allow the ultra consistent HD GFForged heads to do their proper work. They knocked out my P790's (P790's knocked out my JPX900 F) that were the best blend of max distance, forgiveness, and semi-player profile...problem was the feedback was not consistent from a feel or feedback stand point on strikes.

Ill never be with out a Mizuno Forged iron again.

I’d say with 6-P I can’t really see a difference in forgiveness between the two sets. The VPC 4 and 5 irons are a little more forgiving. I’m not sure if it’s shaft change or playing a different ball, but the 919Ts appear to be a half club longer. Really...there’s nothing I don’t like about the Mizunos. They sit perfectly behind the ball. Feel is exceptional. I can work them most any way I want. Flight them however. Hindsight...maybe get 919 Forged 4 and 5 for the little extra help but that’s all I would change.

I had the 919t for a few weeks so not a 'long term review'. Only played one round and hit them twice on the range. They are very forgiving IMO but I am used to blades/minimal cavity type irons. They have a ton of offset in the short irons especially for a players club and its ultimately something I couldn't get over. Mine were also way out of spec on many of the irons. (my 9 iron was 38.5 degrees and my 8 iron was 37 for instance so I returned them)

I think they are a great club IF you can stand to look at the gradual bent hosel offset. Great turf interaction, forgiving, and the feel is outstanding. I seriously considered ordering another set after I took them back back but went with the mp18 instead. I'd rank them as some of the best performing irons i've ever tried, maybe the best. If mizuno comes to their senses and gets rid of all that offset I might sell my mp18's and buy them again.

I don't understand how all of these guys are having that many issues with Mizuno haven't people with the issues been calling them you would think their quality control would improve...

I pick mine up tomorrow and they were a custom order so I surely hope everything is good it will be really disappointing if the Lofts and everything are off

also the badge insert on the back of the forged looks cheap and silly. i don't know why they insist on doing this.

The 900F kills the 919F aesthetically.

I like the sole of the 919F better. The topline is fine to me. Have no issues with the badging. The feel off the ball is better. In the bag for two months and not a bit of bag chatter - nice. I guess a little dab of boron does help.

People are a little too obsessive here ... jmho.

Yeah 900F topline was too thick, launch was too low, feel was ok and the badges sucked, couple rounds and they would be all scratched and dinged looking horrible

I pick mine up tomorrow and they were a custom order so I surely hope everything is good it will be really disappointing if the Lofts and everything are off

I asked about the integrity of the set match lofts shafts etc ...

I was assured that they would all be checked & gtd correct ...

Will see for sure

Thats funny I asked the same we will see tomorrow too

Mizuno pumps them out pretty fast. mine were 5-9 irons and the only iron at the spec I ordered was the 5. plus, the grips were put on way closed. On top of that Mizuno wouldn't let the store I bought them from return them because I had played with them. I think mizuno owes me a sleeve of Pro V1's because I lost 3 balls airmailing greens that round. :)

The Mizuno Europe website has a quick little iron fitter. I messed around with it and it seems like they're saying the 919T are more forgiving than the 18SC. Interesting.

I would say that is the case but just because the toe is a tiny bit more stable on the 919t due to the weight being pushed out there. Really though these are nitpicking levels of difference. The sc is pretty damn solid and stable on mishits.

every time I see a post by you it reminds me of the video of Mikey playing jack zoomed in from 2000.

919 forged vs tour...

I hit a few of my clubs demo 919 forged and 919 Tours on grass and on course and...

Forged are soft and so easy to hit and forgiving. The 919 tours 8-pw are way less forgiving than the forged if you mishit it you will know.

Center hits and same lofts the tours an forged are equally long, i preferred 8-pw looks of the tours better grind and topline.

The 4 iron forged is the same size an shape as my cobra forged tec black 4 iron they look identical, i will post when i actually use mine on course for a full round.

All subjective opinions...here is my take on having both still and gaming both still:

Tight Lie Turf Interaction

919F > 900F

Forgiveness (toe or heal strikes)
