Tales of the BST

Recommended Posts

This has been beat to death but I need to vent. I've got a BST ad up and get an offer with good communication. I send my PayPal info and the buyer goes silent. Next day I send the buyer a PM asking where he's at and he now says he's going to pass. I not here to out anyone, and I know it's probably a small percentage of users who are capable of this, but it's frustrating.

If you’re going to sell on GolfWRX’s BST, you should become very familiar with this behavior. As suggested above, no item is sold until money is sent. When an offer is made, communicate a clear and fair timeline to the potential buyer, and never completely close off communication with other potential buyers until money is in your account.

Unfortunately, common courtesy is not very common on the BST these days.

I have bought and sold almost 40 items over the years and have had Tire Kickers , Time Wasters and fantastic people to deal with.

When selling an item if someone contacts you they should be a buyer or at a minimum interested and wanting to negotiate.

I never let that bother me and will not mark anything as sold until I receive the funds. In my world there is no such thing as sale pending... only a sale or no sale.

This. Not on this site, but I sold tickets to a sporting event not long ago. Funny how potential "buyers" were getting all upset. No, I am not going to "hold them for you" while you finish your commute, the errands you are running, the #### you are taking, none of it. First to PayPal gets the goods, that's the way it is.

I agree with not marking the item sold until money has been sent. My frustration is more with the tire kicker issue. I had good PM communication and once it’s time to pay up the buyer goes silent. Every time I’ve purchased I send PayPal immediately.

I replied to a WTB ad for a rangefinder. Made an offer to the poster, poster came back with “xyz.com” has one for sale for $zzz. Same model but beat to sh!t. I offer a reduction to $zzz+$25 as mine has been used less than a dozen times and comes with a silicone sleeve. Poster asks a week or two later if I’d still honor the $zzz+$25 price. I say yes and give my paypal info.

Radio silence.

Common courtesy and sense is long gone.

It’s literally that easy. If you assume sold before you see funds. It’s your fault.

Those worried about tire kickers aren’t being real. I have sold for a living. It’s part of the job. You can’t expect it to be as easy as only having to talk to the one person who buys.

For the amount of eyes you get on stuff here for free or nearly free it’s s no brainer. Do the work , do the dance ...., far better than eBay both in price you get and idiots you deal with.

A lot of people can’t afford a new set of irons or a PXG driver but it still feels good to look around. This gives them the opportunity to browse, compare, open communication, offer, haggle and make a deal. All without spending any money.

Of course they don’t get the goods either but that’s a small price to pay for feeling like they have the money. It’s catharsis.

The only issue I have are with people who don't have the guts to respond and say "no thanks" to an offer or folks who made an offer that won't respond to say that they changed their mind. Nobody likes to have an offer pulled, but I appreciate them responding to tell me instead of going silent.

I no longer respond to lowball offers. Waste of time and odds are if you counter, they won't come up.

“Buyers are liars”

Anyone who has sold for a living knows this to be mostly true.

You need to go into all deals with the attitude that it’s all BS until the money changes hands.

I have played on both sides of this fence and as a result here comes my cynicism shining through. With just a few word changes this is still true too many times from my experience...

Sellers are liars”

Anyone who has purchased anything knows this to be mostly true.

You need to go into all deals with the attitude that the seller's description of the goods is all BS until you can inspect the goods for yourself.

During any buying and selling of most goods you can, generally speaking, safely assume that both sides will act in their own best interest. It always has been this way and as far as I can tell, it always will be.
