2019 LPGA Schedule ?

It used to be we would get teasers of the following season's schedule around this time. We know the following events are new/returning:

BMW Korea

New Zealand

Tournament of Champions

DOW Team Event

There have also been a couple of articles speculating the return of an event associated with Lorena Ochoa either in Merida, Yucatan or a return to Guadalajara. The incoming Presidential administration in Mexico has said it doesn't mind spending money to support international events in Mexico but there has to be a tangible benefit for Mexican athletes. Being that any LPGA event would grant sponsor exemptions likely for local players, one would think this fits the bill. Mexico also hosts a Formula 1 race and there have been rumors swirling that event is on the chopping block for support from the Ministry of Tourism, National Sports Commission, City of Mexico City among others because while well attended it doesn't do a lot to help aspiring Mexican F1 drivers.

I am interested to see how they'll fill out the field for the Tournament of Champions. There were only about 30 or so players qualified last I checked and at least a couple of those players I imagine won't play because they tend to start their season later.

Any thoughts on the 2019 schedule?

The Tournament of Champions is a nice event for the winners but it's basically the same field size as what it replaced as the Diamond resort Invitational. It will have the celebrity pro-am like the Diamond Resort event, it's even played at the resort again. I suspect the only difference is Champion Tour player who used to be part of it, that 80% of them that got spanked by Lexi in 2017 and Brooke in 2018 didn't like the look of playing the same tees as the girls and getting beat badly lol. I do hope they get the same Am players though very few actor types and mostly current or retire athletes who are basically scratch golfers.

As for Mexico, I wouldn't put an event there till the government actually gets control of the country, the place is pretty nuts and dangerous.

My guess is the Volvik championship will be gone.

There were speculations that one new event could be added in Asia. Maybe it was just the new event in Korea. If not, maybe a stop in Vietnam ? Or even a second stop in Thailand ? I wonder can they find a new sponsor for Malaysia.

Speaking of Tournament of Champions, I am interested to see if the Queen Bee bother showing up. At this stage of her career, she doesn't play ball to anyone.

( On a side note, the right hand man of Mike Whan , Jon Podany is leaving the LPGA to become the head of some enterprise/charity of Arnold Palmer )

I also remember reading about a possible event in Vietnam. The Korean tour now hosts a couple of events there.

Inbee is one of the players I was thinking would skip the Tournament of Champions. From what I've read, she likes to spend the first part of the off season in Korea and the part right before Thailand/Singapore in Australia preparing for the season.

Seems in control enough for the WGC event to have been played there. Upcoming PGA Tour event nesr Cancun and upcoming Formula 1 race.I'm told it just really depends where you're visiting.

New Zealand will not be on the 2019 schedule as announced today on their website. They hope to return in 2020. A real shame as I enjoyed playing it last year. The Aus Open will be played Feb 14-17 at the Grange and proceeded by a $1.3 million(aud) event the Oates Vic Openwhich although not LPGA co sanctioned will no doubt draw alot of interest from LPGA players wanting to play such a unique event where we play with the men. Both ladies and men's field's will be co sanctioned with the European bodies

Didn't Minjee win the Oates Vic Open this year? Seems like a no-brainer for the LPGA players to tee it up with the Australian Open the following week.

Another article about the potential return of Lorena's event to Guadalajara. If it does return it will need to be with a larger purse and a different spot on the calendar. It was hurt when it was in November by the small purse and the fact the players had to travel from Japan to make it.

If it is a limited field event, it could perhaps be a beidge before heading to Asia.

The article says the organizers are in talks with the incoming government to provide funding and logistical support. They are also talking to potential sponsors. It does say it is preliminary. I would imagine they wouldn't leak this unless it hada reasonable chance of returning. Here's hoping.

Unfortunately this is what could happen when you do business with a D-list sponsor. They either ran out of money or they saw a dip in form from Lydia Ko and decided it is not worth it, even though they must have signed multi year sponsorship deal.

Vic Open is LET /Aussie tour event ? LPGA players can't play unless they have status on LET. Minjee probably had special status , or got invites.

I have to imagine that getting an invite is as simple as sending an email. What tournament wouldn't want the best players in the world to tee it up?

A few invites to star players to raise the event's profile, sure. But anything more than that would be unfair to the LET/Aussie tour card holders.

Maybe "ausgolfgirl" can chime in on this ? :)

Minjee gets in through her ALPG OOM ranking (Aus) and is in the highest exemption category due to her win and also previously wins and rankings etc The field is usually 144 and has traditionally set aside 10-20 invites to bolster the strength of the field with LPGA players or leading Players from other tours so there will be plenty of opportunity to add those players.

In years past they would have one of the field criteria be leading 20 players from world rankings etc and alot of those players would get in that way without needing invites so to speak.

In that case, I hope more LPGA stars would go over to give it support and to make a statement. It is the only event to have equal purse for men and women.

Or something like that...

https://golfweek.com/2018/10/07/golf-forecaddie-lpga-schedule-has-twists-turns-back-to-back-majors-in-2019/

Looks like we finally have the teaser piece I've been waiting for. Some highlights

1. Bahamas event is gone, PureSilk is moving their sponsorship to WIlliamsburg

2. As we already knew, New Zealand won't happen in 2019.

3. Volvik is out as sponsor in Ann Arbor

4. Dallas is moving the fall

5. Back to back majors in 2019.

Possible new events in Boca Raton, Las Vegas and somewhere in Asia. There are still articles coming out about a potential return to Guadalajara for the Lorena Ochoa Invitational so that can't be counted out.

I’ve attended the KPMG in Chicago the past two years and really enjoyed it. I’d love to see an event there or Des Moines, both of which are approximately 2 1/2 hours from the Quad Cities. I’ve started coaching a high school girl’s golf team and think taking them to an LPGA event would be inspirational.

If you include the International Crown in 2016, we had three straight years of tournaments. It'll be tough to see that go. I'll likely attend Indy or Green Bay next year. I attended The Meijer in Grand Rapids this year. With the Volvik falling off the schedule, Ann Arbor is no longer an option.

Yep, it's sad I can't see the LET surviving much longer. I guess if you're European and don't wanna attend college in the US, there's not much chance of being a pro golfer, unless you're a prodigious talent. A positive though maybe this gets rid of Solheim Cup soon.

It'd be nice if Solheim Cup becomes the International Crown.

With tradition aside, I`m thinking the Euro Team should be replaced with either the top 12 players from outside the US, or just get it over with and replace them with the country who clearly is producing the most talent Korea.

It always bugs me at Solheim time when the best players in the world are not involved. I understand borrowing tradition from the Ryder Cup, maybe the European countries produce the most talented men past and present, but it sure ain`t true for the ladies these days.

I like the idea that's been tossed around as one of including a mixed team of multiple nations, though I question if the event would mean anything to those players, eg if Brooke and Lydia were on a team I know they'd have fun, but there's no national pride at stake I guess.

Honestly one I'd like to see is a mixed team event where it's maybe a random pairing. But I know not everyone gets along in life so maybe on second thought not such a good idea lol. "Next up on the Number One tee, our 7th match of the day; Alison Lee and Suzann Pettersen vs In Gee Chun and Ha Na Jang..." Crickets...

Actually, Alison and In Gee vs. Suzann and Ha Na might be a better Pay per View than Tiger vs. Phil. Lol.

Add the Vic Open to LPGA schedule, so 2 australian/LPGA sanctioned events in a row next February

I saw the announcement a bit earlier today. Will the purse be 1.5 million AUD or 1.5 million US? If it's AUD it will.be the smallest purse on the lpga tour.

$1.5 million Aus

Interesting the LPGA would accept a full field event with such a small purse.
