Cold Weather Golfing - How Was Your Round

Naptime

Baltimore. 3-some. Played yesterday. 26 degrees F. Greens recently top dressed with sand. 53/47. Tee shots fair, hybrids good. Irons very good. Pitches/chips couldn't get distance right since the ground was pretty hard, had better luck putting anything within 10 yards of the green. Putting decent considering the greens. First group of the day at 7:30. Fun day. 3.5 hrs.

Playing today. 43 now but going up to a balmy 50 degrees in NJ?

I was looking forward to playing today also at my club in NJ but will probably be better off with a canoe than a golf cart after all the rain we got last night. I'm tired of the cold and crappy weather. Over the years I've played in some pretty extreme conditions, but it's getting old, and so am I...lol!

Leaving town permanently on Wed...moving to FL ?

7 C, slightly cloudy and a bit breezy today. Had a surprisingly good round at Rye Hill. The front was particularly good including a weird birdie. Pushed the tee shot, we both heard it hit solid wood but it ended up alongside my mate's ball so it must have bounced back into play. 3h got me onto the green (wow!) but 20 ft from the flag and a sloping green. One putted for a birdie, got the break perfectly - best putt in recent memory :)

Unfortunately the last few holes I wobbled a bit so 43 out, 50 in. Not quite sure how I feel about nearly breaking 90. On the one hand if I hadn't scored 8 on the par 4 16th and a triple on another hole I'd have broken 90 for the first time at that course but on the other hand it was winter tees which must have knocked 400 yards off the length of the course. So I'm kind of glad that wasn't how I first broke 90.

I definitely feel that my recent slow motion swing practice is paying off. Just got to watch the last few holes as I stop turning my shoulders and start to get a bit flippy.

Solid round. 76 blows but a poor finish. Got to hit fairways or playing off muddy lies which mean clart all over the ball and poor distance control. Some greens great but the tined ones are horrendous to putt on. Back stiffened up as round went on...got slower. Used a Srixon Distance and it was fine. Better warm up and a flask of coffee needed.

Flask of coffee?? There is only one type of flask son and that’s for dispensing adult beverages not coffee!

Played a few times over the past two w/e. Yesterday game was on frozen ground, which meant I really had to make sure I was sweeping the club off the turf at impact (no divot). I found that when I concentrated and focused, I got some clean, decent shots, which hopefully will translate to better ball striking on non-frozen turf days.

The other nice thing about playing in winter in New England after a hard freeze, is that water hazards are just something to bounce the ball off of or skid across. I had a two drives that curved and bounced on the ice only to land back on the fairway.

The bad thing, for me at least, playing in winter is that my distances have to be recalibrated. My drives, even with a a "soft" ball are losing 15-20 yards at temps of 45 deg F and my irons are about 8 to 10 yards. I normally hit my 7-Iron, well struck, 150 yards, 8-iron 140, 9-Iron 125, but am finding that I am about 10 yards shorter on each.

I'm going to play today if I can find something that's open here in metro Detroit. High of 43 and winds 6-12. Should be pretty pleasant for walking.

Cracklewood is open.

Played Pine Trace, shot -2 on the back

I didn't even consider Pine Trace, I figured no way they would be open.

Played 18 yesterday, warm, but sooooo freaking wet!

It feels like we haven't had dry conditions in months.

Played pretty well considering the mud. Loving the G400Max driver.

1 birdie for a skin, 1 greenie (same hole). $84....Ka-ching.

39 on the front, 47 on the back!!!!

Ballstriking was good, putted like an untrained monkey.

Lost two balls, one in a bunch of leaves, 1 in a bunch of lake.

Sure hoping it wasn't the last round of the year....

Played yesterday in Rochester. Course was really soggy because of snow melt but greens were rolling really good. Was 41 and 5 out of the 9 players were under par. Game is easier with lift clean and place with one club length!

Played my last round in NJ for the season yesterday. Packing up today and tomorrow for our move, departing Wed morning.

We had 16 guys yesterday. Our course was flooded due to 3" of rain on Sat night, but we were lucky that another club (Forsgate CC) allowed us a reciprocal. Three putted 2 of the first three greens and missed a four footer in the dark on #18 to shoot 71.

I'll miss the great courses in the NJ, NY, PHL area, but I won't miss the weather!

Played Friday when it was 20 or so degrees out and everything was frozen.

I broke so many tees trying to stick one in the ground and all approach shots bounced off the concrete greens but also worked in your favor with tee shots since the balls bounced and rolled for days.

Only three or so other purists out there so we had the course to ourselves which was awesome.

When I texted Perry to see if Katke was open he suggested Pine Trace.

Sylvan Glen was open too.

Played my local par 3 track Saturday and Sunday. Saturday, ground was rock hard. I couldn't get a tee in the ground. Tee shots short of the green bounced and got you on the green. The greens were decently fast. Sunday, tees made their way into the ground. Balls plugged from all the rain. Greens received balls well on tee shots. Putting surfaces were slow as can be. Amazing how the same course plays different within 24 hours.

Played the Wednesday before "Thanksgiving." Shot a 79, and was very pleased. Beat both of my sons who play "a lot" more than I do.

We usually play the day after "Thanksgiving" but we had to travel this year to see some friends.

Saturday - we watched The French Connection, and I laughed.

It got so cold last week I had to play in pants, I think it was like 67 degrees in the morning.

I shot in the low 90's I think. Terrible.

Played over the weekend. Around 30-35 degrees out. The ground was still pretty frozen from the really cold weather over the holiday, but playable enough. Working through a big swing change so it was a pretty awful round overall, with me ending up on the range afterwards to try working through more of the changes. Going to be a tough winter trying to fix the swing too. I enjoy playing this time of year as it's typically pretty quiet with very few people on the course too.

Not much better here bud, this past weekend it may have topped out in the low 80s, but I definitely had a sweater on in the AM lol. Safe trip down bud, we will definitely meet up when you get settled!

Played on Black Friday. Temperature during the round was between 41 and 45F, but the real problem was the wind- 20mph sustained, gusting to 30 or so. Shot 74 (2-over), and was pretty happy with that. 1 birdie, 3 bogeys, 15 pars.
