Received a sleeve of the black Proto few weeks ago and just got a chance to try them today. Did not hit any with the driver but hit some short/mid irons, wedges, a few chips from different lies, and putts. I don’t know how different they are from previous gens (I think either the 2009 or 2013 Pro V1 was the only version I played regularly, can’t recall which one) but I really, really like this 2019. Same impression as some others, great spin and control while not feeling like it spins too much. Has just a hint of click off the putter which puts it kind of in-between the regular and X that I really like. Shots around the green had some nice check and release. Hit a couple mid and short irons into a really stiff breeze and it just cut through without ballooning and held the line beautifully. Not sure how much more I’ll get out this year but looking forward to putting these in play.

I played a round with the standard V1 proto yesterday.

I've been playing the X version from various manufacturers for many years now. Most recently I've played the zstar xv, and the b330 before that.

I've got to say, I was very impressed with the V1. So much so, I may switch next year. The feel is definitely better than the xv, and it did seem to fly a bit lower for me. I played the same ball for the entire round, and it was basically scuff free at the end. I hit plenty of wedges, so it's not like the ball had an easy go.

It's interesting, I actually liked the '15 v1x better than the 17. I thought the cover on the 17 wasn't as durable. I'd like to try the 19, but it looks like they may have increased the spin on the irons and I actually need less spin with the irons.

I had a ball fitting with Titleist in San Diego yesterday, and they had the 2019 V1 and V1X. Still have the same characteristics - V1 flies lower and spins a little less. The new V1X seemed a little clickier to me. I was surprised at the obvious difference in flight between the two. I ended up with a box of the V1X - although it is just a generic white box as they don't have the retail boxes ready yet.

Am I the only person who wears socks ?

I LIVE in socks, sleep in them, walk around the house in them, I own a pair of flip flops...I think, but not sure. Anyway, I love love love socks

I never wear socks. not even in my golf shoes

I'm in flip flops as soon as the snow melts and I go to socks an shoes when the snow comes back in December

Amazing with all the updates how many pro's still play older versions

I think Langer has 2013 x's stockpiled at home

I always wonder just how many times you can make a ball new and improved? Does the "best ball we've ever made" suddenly become obsolete? If I had my way I'd still be playing the rule 35 Blue, best ball for my game I've ever found. My favourite ProVx is the 2007 version. 2017 X feels like a rock and has nowhere near the bite of the 2007. With the laws governing balls there are only so many times you can reinvent the wheel before you start messing with what made it good.

Was talking more about ProVs. The AVX is a completely new concept and is targeted at different players, the ProVs are supposed to be the best so how can they keep making them better?

I guess it is all about subtle refinements to improve ball flight, ball speed and durability without changing the characteristics that make the Pro V1/Pro V1x balls so successful. The new and improved may be nearly impossible to see by the naked eye for most of us.

I've been playing the new '19 Pro V1x. 3 rounds in and i have to say no difference in driving, mid irons and putting. Where i found the difference was in the wedges. Spun more, and a touch longer, which i didn't like. I have been playing the Vice Pro Plus, and for me it plays just as good as the '17 V1x's. The only thing is that the cover wears quicker, but i don't care since i only play them one round.

Aesthetically the new ball has some minor differences.

Ping G410+ Tensei Orange Pro.

Mizuno GT180 shaft as above.

Adams 3H  Aldila Blue.

Wilson FG100 4i-PW.

Wilson PMP 52/56/60

Putters....too many.

Played the 2019 Pro V1 Proto against AVX and the outgoing Pro V1. The new Pro V1 feels very close to the old ball off the clubface and seems to have a hair more check to it on well struck pitches and chips. 8i down to LW on full swings there was little between these balls. All stopped quickly with next to no roll out. From 7i up thru driver the new ball was very close in distance to the AVX but with a higher trajectory. The AVX was the longest of the balls, ‘19 Pro V1 was 3 yards behind the AVX and the ‘17 Pro V1 was 2-3 yards behind the new ball.

Had a ball fitting at the club today.

The V1 was nice, but the V1x gave me more spin which was actually nice.

Got two sleeves of each to play with in the next few months.
