Good for you, it might be hard to get over this relationship for a little while but you can do it. Give yourself a new you as well. It might not be all him...do you need to lose a little swing weight? Try going to some different clubs. Whatever you do, don't pick up someone at the range. Those are just the rebound relationship type, probably would run into your x-out there anyway so don't put those on your bucket list. Try the 19th hole, try a few subtle statements like 'I'm not really into practice swings' or 'yeah, lining up putts, not this guy, unless they're over 6 ft.'... if they agree with you then maybe you can invite them over to your place sometime for a cup of coffee and the Morning Drive on the Golf Channel. If they can handle that, they can handle anything. After that you can try playing a round together, and see how it goes. Maybe you can golf steady for a while before you're totally sure, oh, and make sure he knows right up front if you have any baggage...

Had a similar problem as some people take the game to seriously. I'm getting older and winning doesn't mean the same thing now. I need some peace and quiet out there to be able to think about my next shot.

I hope it ended well. We tossed a guy this year whom we’d been playing with for over a decade. He made playing golf feel like going to a job you hated.

 

We see him on the putting green, now, and he won’t even acknowledge us. We did get all the mutual friends in the split.

it's hard to find partners that play a complementary game with yours, i,e, shoot similar scores, have similar parameters about betting, and play at a comfortable pace. I had to exit a group because a couple of the guys drank way too much and got unruly when drunk, especially when their game wasn't working. Sometimes you just have to move on. Good luck finding a new group.

Well it just had to be done, no body’s fault really.... these things happen.......it not you it’s me......

Had to tell my playing partner it’s over. We played our last round, went the bar, I looked long into his eyes and told him. You’re a great guy but we can’t play golf together anymore. There were lots of emotion but the bandaid needed to be ripped off. I told him life is too short for 5 hr rounds lining up 8” puts. Told him I deserve not having to watch his six practice swings, the constant ball searching, the endless parade of people I have to let play through. I had to tell him that I’m getting older and rounds were passing me by. After some discussion of joint custody of the beer cooler and the alignment sticks, we parted quietly into the dark. I hope there’s someone out there for me

Don't hate the player hate the game? I stick to the birds of a feather rule early in partnerships and cut deep and fast if it's not a natural fit (shooting/hunting/fishing/motorcycle riding/etc). Bad seeds will get you hurt/pissed/psycho or just waste your time. Funny a** post man, we have all been there before.

My old league partner was a head case. Never practiced, never warmed up. First bad shot he hit he'd blow, then stomp around and not talk to anyone the rest of the round. I endured several seasons of this. We met back in college, were best men for each others weddings, so there's more to it than just golf. Thing is, he's a fun guy otherwise, but I couldn't stand playing golf with him anymore. I was going to fire him, but he saved me the trouble and quit the club before the 2018 season. 2018 was my best season in a while. I had fun in league again!

Get a good lawyer and settle for full custody his entire inventory of clubs. You were way more invested in the partnership than he. At least get some green fee support.
